Seems like there's a video converter offered every week. Granted some are valued updates to previous giveaways, but after a while, I lose interest and don't even bother reading comments. If you haven't found a good one (freeware suggestions included) by now, I doubt you ever will. But thanks GAOD and contributors for all your efforts.

Downloaded and unzipped to a new folder, registered by pasting the given code into the box shown.
My setup is 2007 Dell 5150, Windows 8 pro 32 bit.
Programs runs well and easy to setup.
Tested it by converting an MP4 video to one that works on my mobile, Nokia 5230, which is one of the Nokia presets.
Conversion was quite fast, and when copied to my Nokia, played back well, both video and audio.
Just a straight conversion- no special effects tried.
Did a good job in my test, although none of the effects worked without showing the same problem as the other writers have mentioned.
I would use this program for the conversion process, worked well in my test.
Thankyou GAOTD and urexsoft for supplying this software.

The version 3 previously given away here works without the access violation
freeze up. They changed something in this version 4 where is always gives
this error and the program must be then closed using ctrl alt del keys.

It would seem from the comments that the supplier has not fully tested this program.
It's good to be able to read comments so you know of the problems when deciding to download a program

Charley (#16) to play on a stand alone player for a TV the movie has to be "authored". I'd go into more detail but I'm not well today. Just visit some of the video forums and you'll find help.

I use WinX DVD Author: http://www.winxdvd.com

it's not that hard to do and it's sure a lot easier if you can a good instructor to walk you through it.

It's 2014. Windows XP hasn't been supported since April. Can we please quit pretending that if a program doesn't work on XP that it's the program's fault?

Cuz I'll bet it doesn't work on Win 95 either.

I know very simple question. But if download a movie from as an example you tube, you want to play it on the dvd player on your TV. What format should you use so will play on TV? Do you have to use blank DVD or can you use blank CD disc? Really appreciate any response as have several movies want to play on our TV as wife is disabled and cannot view on my computer. Thanks Charley

DivX or XviD should work and no you have to use a DVD not a CD

Reply   |   Comment by ilikefree  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

The normal format for DVDs is VOB and is normally created by authoring a DVD but this is not the best way of doing it if you have a more modern TV.
Modern TVs often have USB ports and on some videos can be played if a Flash thumb drive is plugged in, you need to check the video formats allowed for your TV which should be obtainable on the Internet.
My preferred method now is by using an android tablet with an HDMI output port which plugs into the television, the saved video being on the SD card in the tablet.
The latter has two advantages, the quality is way higher than on a DVD for the same file size and probably in the long run price, decent tablets are very cheap these days.
I bought a 10 inch tablet this year with retina display and good battery life for less than £110, just make sure it can use SD cards and has a HDMI port.
Hope this helps.

Use Ashampoo Burning Studio 2014; given a few day earlier.
And burn a video-disc

Reply   |   Comment by Ootje  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Charley, You would have to convert the YT file (.flv) into .avi first, then burn that to a DVD-R using an authouring program such as Nero or Leawo DVD creator.
You would have to load your file into one of those programs to see if it would fit on the DVD, as there is a limit to how much you can get on DVDs.
I make DVDs like this often to play on an old Toshiba DVD, note +R does not work on that player only -R, but you will have to test what will work for your player.

Charley yes ilikefree is correct DivX or XviD should work on a burned Dvd, Most Players have the function to play these formats. i do Stress Most but not all.
There are a few ways to play (convert if needed) Movies or Tv Serials Etc Downloaded from the Web, Youtube or whatever.
You might want to check your TV or Dvd player for a USB Port, as these days it's getting more common that these Products have Built in Video Players (some with Record as well) to watch Video content from a USB Memory Stick, including Viewing Photos, Playing music (Mp3 Etc). It's alot easier doing it this way, and no need to buy Blank Dvds or cd's to burn content on, unless you want to Permanently keep what you Download.
NOW Most Video Content Download (Youtube) will need to be Converted to say Avi or Mpeg4 Format, Avi is pretty much standard so more Players will have this Playable Video Format. Mpeg4 is getting as common but still not all Products play this Format (mostly Tv's).

1. Download Video Content (Movie Etc). 2. Use uRex Video Converter Or any other Free Video Converter and Convert your Downloaded
Video to Avi. 3. Open (find) Output Folder where Converter software saved your Converted Video (check to see it was changed to Avi).
4. Plug in USB Memory Stick to your computer. 5. Right click on Converted Video (Avi thats on your computer) and Choose Copy.
6. Open up USB drive, and Right Click and Choose Paste. (Avi Video will now be Copied To USB Memory Stick) Or Choose your own way to copy over to the USB Stick. 7. Unplug USB Stick from computer And Plug into your TV or Dvd Player (some need to be turned off first).
8. TV needs to be on the Right Channel Either HDMI 1, 2, Etc to View dvd Player (or older AV 1, or 2). If USB is Plugged into TV
Than choose USB not AV or HDMI from menu.
9. You may have to choose Movie Folder from Built in Player to watch movie, (not Photo or Music Folder)Choose your Video from List and
usually press Enter on Remote Play Movie. (DONE)
Note : movie can be deleted after watching or keep it, USB can be used almost like a Hard Drive. I almost forgot Some Older Dvd players
that have a USB Port may Only be used for a Firmware Upgrade and may not be able to play Videos etc.
If you have no usb Ports on your Tv or Dvd Player, There Are plenty of VERY cheap products out There that do the same job, PVR's Dvd Recorders, Players way too many to mention that you can connect to your TV to do all this. If you don't want to buy than use the Burn to Dvd to watch on your Dvd (if it has that Function).

Mark (Australia).

The content has to be layered onto a disc (big enough) in a specific format that your DVD player can interpret. If your machine is a fair few years old, then the format has to be similarly 'old' - not even fancy DivX or Xdiv formats will do. Just plaster it onto a disc in standard DVD style and it'll play.
Movies on DVDs take up a lot of space - inefficient users of capacity - so a CD would take only a very short length ..if you could find the right program to write a 'DVD' to a CD.

I have the older version ver. 2.... and as backup WinXHD. For past 2 yrs I use the ver.2 without problems so I will not upgrade and stick with the older version. Just wanted to thank all the regular testers and GOTD for everything you do. When I find a program that works well, I go and buy other apps needed from that source. Hey, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. Thanks all!

Another video converter, this one is not a one trick pony though! You can crop and edit videos, and enjoy videos on various platforms. Good, but what if I want to add subtitles, or download video, rip a dvd or even remux some files? Today's offer is good, but not enough for me.

1.http://sourceforge.net/projects/tencoder/ Does all that is mentioned above and lots more, FFMpeg needed

2.http://www.teejeetech.in/p/ffcoder.html Open source, converts between 46 formats, see known issues

3.http://www.macroplant.com/adapter/# video, audio, image converter , batch conversions, output file size estimation. trimming

4.Xvid4PsP http://winnydows.com/en/about/ User friendly program for HQ video and audio encoding or remuxing. No additional components required.

5.http://sourceforge.net/projects/svideoconverter/

And somewhere on the net HD Video Converter Factory GA version is there for the taking :)

Thanks you so much GAOTD!

I'm trying to convert a 8 MB video file. Pressing "START" always an error message occurs telling
"Can not creating output file. Please check disk space or operating authority, and select a new output folder."
There is 15 GB free disk space and I'm running the program as an admin. Also changing the output folder to another disk with over 100 GB disk space couldn't change the problem.

Reply   |   Comment by Ritchi  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+16)

I'm having the same problem. I open as administrator (W7 Ultimate) and load the video just fine. When I try to run the program it gives the disk space / authority message. I have over a hundred gig free and am the admin. I hope somebody figures out what's going wrong.

Also, the font size of the interface is very tiny. It's hard for me to read and I can't find any option to change font size.

Tried this yet again this time on Win7, same problem as in XP with access violation!!!!
Beginning to wonder if the developers actually tested this program; just to be sure I downloaded directly from their site in case today's download had been adapted for this site, I experienced exactly the same failure.
As for their 9 million customers just wonder if it shouldn't be 9 million dissatisfied customers!

XP-Man Beginning to wonder if the developers actually tested this program

We are the testers of this software. When the software developers read the GOTD users' comments, they know the problem areas.
Nowadays, company management cannot trust their staff to do a good job anymore.
The staff will just tell top management that the software is PERFECT.

They need an external auditor like us to tell them the truth.

Version 4.0 is identical to V.2.6 (given away here 2012-04-05)

http://img.xrmb2.net/images/279209.gif

A difference in file size of just a few bytes shows, that V4.0 is just a new compilation of the old source code.

The codec libraries are indeed updated.

Anyway, it's a nice converter and I replaced the 2012 giveaway with this one.

Thank you, GotD and uRex

Simple installation and registration, opened up to a very usable interface.
A big improvement in usability when compared to many of the video converters available today.
All the settings are on the opening screen except for the choice of what to convert to, this opens to a well-designed selection list, much better than most.
A reasonable choice of effects including sharpness, but this is where I ran into difficulties as every time I opened this I got an access violation error, probably my OS being cantankerous rather than a fault of the program.
In selection of the settings the option to keep the original appears where it is relevant, to my mind an important setting it saves trying to look up the original values, also a choice of audio volume is offered.

When I first opened up today's offering from the site and saw this I thought another video converter but after using the program I think there is a good chance I'm going to keep it, but probably on a better mannered OS!
