Spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to register. Finally checked back here and Michael Cox's post fixed it for me. Thanks, Michael.

It only found one of my drivers deficient. I spent about an hour and a half downloading (not their fault--slow connection) and installing updated video card driver. At 95% installed, it snaps to 100% and then declares "Update failed." No explanation why. Tried 3 times with same results.

If it can't give me a clue why I can't update, then it's worse than a useless program; it's a time-waster. Thank you, Revo Uninstaller for getting rid of it for me.

Yes another 6 Mo lic. ok it extends me 70 days from where was last, may or may not catch it next time, although very convenient the driver booster is appreciated yet still lacking, finding more drivers for my devices as mentioned here, Driver Max ok but annoying to use, Driver Checker so-so not too reliable, ASO is very thorough good, even Driver Magician sometimes loses its reg key when updating drivers, at least you can download all before installing but they don't always "catch" properly. Thank you GOTD and Iobit.

What is a 6-month "subscription" license?

Does the program stop WORKING after 6 months, or does in stop UPGRADING its dataase (or itself) after 6 months? (That is of great importance if one has a previous with no time limit when it comes to workiing.)

Nice interface, can skin either the dark or light grey.

I am interested how it new i had 6 outdated drivers since I had not allowed it accesss through my firewall.

After enabling through my firewall I updated the sound card drivers (ASUS laptop - same problem as 13) and sound did not work.
Under control canel sound it had changed the setting from the realtek to WsAudio. Clicked it back and working again.

UPdates fast up to 450k. Continues download from where you left off if interrupted.

I exported the license as a backup. It was showing 365 days.
now shows Expired at the top bar.
Clicking on the expired brings License status Exceeded, the code and expirations date feb 2015 182 days left.

Now the Activate button wont take the license - license exceeded.
Currently it is deactivated.

IOBIT - you need to sort your licensing.

This is kind of off topic but the hardware requirements caught my attention: 300 MHz processor or faster; 256 MB RAM; 50 MB free hard disk space. The last time I used a computer with a 300 Mhz processor or 256 MB RAM was at least 12 years ago. With the amount of hard drive space required for installation you would think that the other hardware requirements would be higher. One would also think that the developer would be coding software for higher specifications. Whatever happened to the voice of progress? Nobody that I know of uses a 12 year old computer to run today's software!

You shouldn't need to use a program like Driver Booster if you know what you are doing with your PC. If you are planning on using a program like Driver Booster, you should know what you're doing before even attempting to use it. This is like a cool little tool for people who know what they're doing for maybe making their job faster/easier, but potentially harmful in the hands of the average Joe. I also doubt this can offer the latest drivers for the stuff it should be useful for (old computers) and even after finding something I would have to double check if that driver is actually compatible with the OEM devices or if it's really the latest driver of the device or just A driver for the device. Pretty much completely worthless like all the other find-a-driver softwares out there. $74.85? It's like they say, there's a sucker born every minute... or second, depending on the country :)

Many thanks to IOBit and giveawayoftheday !

well I'm still using and I'm keeping like a gem the first IOBit application: Advanced Windows Care v2 beta (I was a beta tester of).
I recently updated to Windows 7 but I also restored my old XP and thanks to Driver Booster Pro 1.5 my drivers are perfectly updated.

btw made a backup of the updated drivers with the freeware DriverMax and don't mind about the Driver Booster Pro 1.5 only 6-month subscription license limitation !

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Unless you suspect problems associated with particular drivers there is seldom need to update them simply because a new version is available. In fact this can often lead to problems since newer drivers may be optimized for newer systems than yours so performance could suffer.

This is not a castigation of today's software, just a caveat to let no program automatically update or tweak other software unless you know exactly what it is doing and how to undo it if necessary.

* Driver Easy http://www.drivereasy.com

Driver Easy stinks since it scanned for a Hardware I have in another PC - not the one I ran it on. SlimDrivers (www.slimdrivers.com) works and allows separate driver package downloads.

Anybody know of a reliable site to get Realtek drivers for Win7 64bit?

I would adhere to post #13 from Giovanni. Only update your drivers from either the manufacturer such as your motherboard, intel and GeForce. All other drivers I missed, go directly to the developers website where the updated drivers are, if any. Don't play around with installing drivers that you don't know what they are and what they might do to your computer. Why take that kind of risk? I'm not knocking this giveaway of the day today but all driver updating programs. IMO, they are not needed whatsoever.

I have and sparingly use IObit's Advanced System Care and they have a really annoying "feature" in their software. If you don't have everything else they make installed, too, it reports that as a problem that must be fixed. If you don't want to use their defragmenter or their AV software -- or driver updater -- because you prefer someone else's product, IObit will try extremely hard to convince you that your computer is at serious risk by not using their programmes. You also have to be extremely careful during installation or they will sneak in their own toolbar and other junk. The free version of Advanced System Care reports that there are dozens, even hundreds, of serious problems that only upgrading to the pro version will fix. This is getting too close to ransomware.

At first I thought 'just another useless scanner'. Reading the mostly positive comments above I decided to give Driver Booster Pro 1.5 a try; this, even though I have made it a personal rule not to trust this sort of 'speed up your PC'-type software. On the other hand, sometimes it is not clear on the manufacturer's web site whether the update is necessary or even applicable. As mentioned by someone else here, often the updated driver is only for a newer hardware model.

For me, the only way I will keep Driver Booster Pro 1.5 on my PC is to allow it to identify POTENTIAL driver updates, but manually check and install any update from the manufacterer's web site after an appropriate back-up / system restore point.

Running your present driver certainly isn't going to break anything or cause you grief; updating to an inappropriate driver certainly can. Best to be safe and do your homework when you have the time.

I have this installed on one of my machines and whenever it finds what it states are outdated drivers, the newer versions that are installed are actually the same as that which was already installed and even following an update it will still state that the drivers are outdated.

There seems to be an issue with how it identifies driver versions.

Man, where I wrote you should put DRIVER BOOSTER BETA in your machine? I've just said it has the same functionalities as the PRO version, missing in the FREE version. That's it!

Instead I clearly said that DRIVERMAX is the best solution for me, giving you other dozen alternatives: have you read it?

So what do you disagree with me? Crazy!! LOL!

Driver Navigator costs 40 BUCKS!

You can't compare it with DRIVERMAX which is FREE (yes, 2 drivers a day but it's FREE)!

I run W7 ULTIMATE and never have any problem even with DriverBooster Beta, which I use rarely.

DRIVERMAX is pretty much INFALLIBLE but if you use the Russian one (last download link in my post) everything is automatically done with a simple DVD!

For graphics I recommend NVIDIA GEFORCE EXPERIENCE!

Your recommendation (namely select the drivers from the producers site manually) is for me too tedious and time-consuming...

I'll do that when I'll get into troubles using DRIVERMAX (so far never happened).

I used an early version of this and was disappointed with the results. Later versions were much better (no more driver updates in German, etc.). The tool is fast and efficient and seems to give accurate results.

Always create a restore point before doing any driver changes. One computer I have won't run chkdsk at startup because it thinks a key was pressed. I haven't been able to trace the issue entirely, but one possibility is that a driver is causing an issue. Don't know that it was caused by this product (I like most of the IObit products).

One thing that is Very Annoying, this will run at startup, even if you tell it not to. The same is true of the Malware Fighter. This can significantly increase boot times.

2) Driver Reviver
3) Driver Genius Pro
4) Drivermax
5) Driver Navigator

But I like Driver Navigator as it can show the downloaded driver installation files in a folder during updation, so one can easily install that driver later manually just clicking on the exe file.. I didn't find this feature in any other above mentioned programs.

Also i have found Driver Navigator able to find the most recent version to graphic s driver compared to Drivermax.

Generally, stay away from such software.
If you run 4 different driver updaters, you will find their recommendations differ.
Some don't tell you the source.
Don't rely on the driver update software being able to roll back the changes. It is not foolproof.

Do a bit of surfing and you will find DriverMax has a rap sheet of complaints. It is aggressive in recommending driver updates and then you are encouraged to join the Paid membership to have better access to drivers. Typically the "free" version of such update websites is so badly crippled as to be unusable. They want your money.

Do backup your drivers. Choose a driver backup software that can actually restore from what you have backed up. Is that obvious? Watch out!

If your PC system is working perfectly, then do you really need to "update" a driver?
Any hardware company makes a continuous stream of products to sell. They have to in order to survive. So if you bought Model A1.1 of a hardware device, will the new driver for their latest Model C5.4 be suitable? If no improvement in performance is made then at least hope for no harm done.

Some drivers have a long life. My PS/2 mouse driver is from Microsoft. Driver is dated 1 July 2001. Version 5.1.2600.0.
The mouse performs excellently. There is no need to "update" the driver.

I have been using IOBit software (Advanced System Care Pro/Malware Fighter/SmartDefrag) for several years now with a multiple user home license (kids machines). It's top notch software and recommend it highly. With any software, some machine configurations just don't work with it...that's just part of the industry. Yes, there are many free and quality alternatives and manually updating your drivers is always a good practice. However, Driver Booster works well and does a good job of keeping things up to date (as long as the manufacturers report the updates on their end as well).

Giovanni - I must disagree with you. Putting IOBIT beta software on a machine is just asking for grief; whilst most machines are okay, IOBIT trashes my ACER ASPIRE 5733Z-4851 because of the LiveUpdate module. Even if you deny the updates, LiveUpdate must be there or the software crashes randomly (most of the time it just freezes, but sometimes reboots). I refuse to have IOBIT crap on any of my machines as it is not worth the aggravation that will surely follow. (Others are going to chime in that they also have the same computer as I without problems, but they probably don't run all the same software that I do. It doesn't matter if the crash is due to a program conflict or a system conflict as the fact is it will kill the machine. I'm not going to go through all my programs to try to eliminate a conflict just to install a new piece of software. Thumbs down.

This is the most trusted and reputed driver updater I have seen so far.
For the last couple of years, really a great peace of mind after using this.I have two laptops i.e. Windows XP 32 bits and Windows 7 64 bits-both are manufactured by Samsung. But even the manufacturer doesn't provide the updates so rapidly-which this great piece of software does. Not even a single time any error occurred after using this software.I strongly think that all other driver up-daters are nowhere stand in front of capacity and error-free performance of this great software.

On the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" principle, I am not sure that updating drivers is a good thing - and some of the comments above have reinforced this view.

In my experience, if there is a Windows built-in driver for a piece of hardware, it is often safer, simpler and less invasive than the latest driver from the manufacturer (or worse, a third party), which even if functional frequently comes bundled with a lot of unnecessary software, such as "control panels" duplicating Windows functions badly.

Of course, there are exceptions...

Addition:

I was curious and followed the hint of Giovanni with Beta Version.

As lang, as I run the virtual system, I have no problem in updating drives for the second and third time (or forth...).

This Beta version detects a "bad" outdated Microsoft DirectX Runtime. Installed is version 9.19.949.46, the new version is 9.29.952.3111 with 95,98 MB. Under Window 8.1 Update of DirectX (which is included in the OS9 is done via the Windows Update :

DirectX 11.2 is included in Windows 8.1, Windows RT and Windows Server 2012 R2.
Note There is no standalone update package for DirectX 11.2.
You can only install this DirectX version through Windows Update in Windows 8.1, Windows RT and Windows Server 2012 R2.

see : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113/en

So take this example to be careful with such "Driver Boosters"...

By the way, I have Windows 8.1.2

In the past I used IOBIT smart defrag, driver booster and advanced system optimizer. In the start,my pc was running better, but after about two months, everything start to deteriorate.First,Driver booster took every time more and more time to scan. Then, smart defrag became aggressive in offering me another IOBIT products. And so on.
I got tired of that.
And I uninstalled all IOBIT products.
But,alas!
I only thought that I uninstalled IOBIT.
IOBIT smart defrag continued to defrag my pc boot time??
Nothing could remove stubborn IOBIT smart defrag, not even Revo uninstaller, nor bit remover-specifically made for removal of IOBIT products.
You can read about this below:

Finally, after hours of aggravation,I promised myself to never use IOBIT products again,I found manually trace of IOBIT on my pc hard disk, and deleted it.
Now,I will not use IOBIT products, any product, even if IOBIT gives me money or free lunch!

Well, compared to DRIVERMAX it could find just a few precentage of outdated drivers in my dummy machine (just 8 out of 25)...and I wonder why!

So it's a good software but in my view it's also pretty much overrated but if you use their BETA version you can enjoy the same functionalities as the PRo version for FREE b(but hey...pssssss this is a secret between me and you....LOL!).

BEST FREE ALTERNATIVES

The first thing to do in order to keep your PC in perfect shape is actually to update its INTEL drivers:

http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm

Most important, besides Intel drivers, are also the VIDEO drivers:

http://www.geforce.com/drivers

And if you are a frantic PC GAMER:

http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/geforce-experience

Then, for the other remaining DRIVERS, best thing to do is to visit your PC manufacturer website and then download all of the right drivers there, according to the model and OS of your PC!!!

For instance, ACER users like me can go here to update the drivers of their machine:

http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

And as final touch you may also use FREE driver updaters…

The most accurate one I found so far is DRIVERMAX, by Innovative Solutions: the only problem is that you need a PREMIUM (==> $$$) account to update ALL your outdated drivers, otherwise you can update only 2 drivers a day, which is better than nothing of course!

http://www.drivermax.com

Other excellent FREE tools are also these:

* Driver Easy
http://www.drivereasy.com

But if you don’t want to install anything, well no problem.

http://drivereasy.com/scannow

* (Portable) DUMO
http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?dumo

* (Portable) Driver Identifier
http://driveridentifier.com

* MaConfig
http://www.ma-config.com/en/detectoffline

* Slim Drivers
https://www.slimwareutilities.com/slimdrivers.php

There’s also an amazing FREE Russian app which automates the process of finding, installing and backing up the right updated drivers of your system with an unique and pretty infallible approach. The only problem is that it comes with an ISO file of 4GB in size.

http://drp.su

My 2 cents for today's giveaway! ^_^

Hmm, automated driver updating programs don't seem to care, if it's a signed driver or some homemade infected one, it finds. Excuse me, but I was not at all impressed last time, Driver Booster was offered. Well, I tried it, and it told me, that my chipsetdrivers was outdated - among some others. Well, by common sence, I just fetched one driver at the time, and I got hit the first time. It was an infected driver, and it succeeded sneaking by my Bitdefender T.S. - the first time. I recommend, you download your drivers from the vendor's homepage. Sorry, for my rant, but by obvious reasons I don't trust a "company", who copied Malwarebytes database and uses it in their "own" releases. Anyway, thanks for keeping this awesome site interesting - to the team behind GOTD and my fellow users givin' usefull reviews everyday. Greets from Denmark

#3 Driver Booster does automatically back up drivers before updating. You can restore old drivers by clicking the 3rd icon at the top of the program.

Overall Driver Booster is very comparable to the free program SlimDrivers by Slimware. Both product do what they say & in some cases find driver updates for different hardware.

I have been using the free version for a long time so had no hesitation in using this licence to up it to the PRO level.

Since there seems to be very little difference to the interface after doing this, does the option for "Specialized Driver Tweaking for Top Gaming Experience" (which the free version doesn't provide) only appear when a driver is updated? Or what have I missed?

My experience with Driver Booster Pro has been very positive. It does an efficient and accurate job of driver analysis and update, is nonintrusive and not resource-heavy. It's especially good for those with custom-built systems who don't have the benefit of OEM driver support.

I am impressed. I have an older i3 PC, windows 7. It scanned the system, identified 6 outdated drivers, and updated them fast and smooth, including making a System Restore Point. Great! After rebooting everything runs smoothly. Highly recommended.

Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1.2 Pro 64 bit system.

During installation you can deny to install the additional system care ...

A company without name and address. We had had version 1.0 on October 18th, 2013. Here are the old reviews:
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/driver-booster-pro-1-0/

I will describe the program, not the question of "usefulness" (if it ain't broken, don't fix it - Microsoft installs the latest drivers...)

A small non resizable window in dark colors opens, with the feedback button, you will see a toll free phone number for problems with this software. That's good. The second button allows you to backup the drivers, the third to restore them and with the skin button, you can change the appearance.

The programs scans automatically your drives against a driver base, and if it finds a newer version number, it informs you, that you have "outdated" drivers. In my case it shows an old Realtek High Definition Audio driver and an outdated Graphics driver, which has been updated by the driver's company software some weeks ago.

It is good, that it doesn't detect ten, twenty or thirty drivers to update, like other "driver update" programs (Buy it and fix it NOW!).

Before updating you should backup the driver. In my eyes this should done by the software itself automatically.

With the update button, it loads the "new" driver - I hope, that this download is done from the drivers company side and not from one of the many "driver repositories". The software does not show, from where it updates.

My network analyzer shows me, that the software loads the drivers from a page: http://www.cd4o.com/drivers/v14/51/realtek/win7_win8_win81_r275_vista64_v78b4.dbz

I would prefer the original side...

Does what I claims and you have to know, what you do.

Uninstalled via reboot, I prefer to select the drivers from the producers site manually.
