Thanks for the screenshots, but I already tried all of that* before posting, with no result what-so-ever, as you can read in my post...

*that is: tried installing to different installation paths and the setups have fully access to the internet...No anti-virus is running. Firewall is also not the problem.

It simply idles on the "installing please wait" screen, no internet activity at all, no drive activity at all....

I've never had difficulty installing a giveaway program before, so I'm baffled. The program seemingly installs, but upon opening it after entering my license code to register, the program loads for a split second and then disappears. I've uninstalled twice, scanned for leftover registry bits twice, reinstalled twice, and still have the same result. Looks like a few others have the same problem, but I haven't seen any suggestions as to what we might be doing wrong. Yes, I follow all the instructions explicitly, if you were wondering. ;-)

Edit. if you want to keep the wondershare installed player but want your files associations returned to prior to the install, right click the wondershare player in the system tray (bottom right of screen) (red and green triangle icon),then click player settings/then associations, then select none, then click apply.
Annoying when software does this to your pc without asking.

be warned ,this software also installed a video player without asking, which changes all of your video and Audio files and sets itself as the default player, for all of your videos and music/audio. also adds two entries to your startup files without asking.
1.wondersharehelper.exe and 2.DelayedpluginI.exe
Luckily i monitored this installation with Advanced uninstaller pro,and will be uninstalling it. Software that behaves this way should be avoided in my opinion, some user may not now how to restore their default player for their video/audio files.
A big minus from me.

@34 - Revo uninstaller makes a free version that will root out all of the "hidden" crap. However, as you have already tried the "standard" uninstall that left a lot behind, you might have to re-install (install Revo first) and then use Revo to uninstall so it can get rid of all the "left behind ware."

I initially thought that people having problems running this software or having it change settings for your common media players had not looked for opt-out or custom installer settings. I was wrong.

Fortunately for me the installation file would not even install the player. Numerous error messages reported that file xxxx.xxx could not be installed because the installer file is corrupt. I even redownloaded the GOTD file, but had exactly the same result.

I am running Windows 7 Home 64-bit, with tons of resources, etc.

The thought occurs to me: I wonder if my antivirus (Avast I.S. 2014) is blocking the bad behaviour of this software? In any case, I'll do a thorough scan, pass on today's offering and also avoid all Wondershare products in the future. A shame because I always liked their products. What changed? Did they get acquired by the Chinese Communist Party and government? Makes me nervous. ;)

And one more remark: after this "Wonder" is uninstalled there remain several dozen register keys that the programme failed to clear. And, of course, previous settings of multimedia viewers are not restored by uninstalling this DELUXE!

Only time will show what other disasters the software may have made in the computer.
Very upset,
Marek

Although my message written after having tried the software may seem to arrive too late to warn anybody, I decided to share my experience as it is really revolting.

This is simply a combination of elementary image editing (any decent image editor has much more to offer) and slideshow functions (many fee and all software pieces sold with CD recorders has more to offer), but still nicely packed. And that’s all it is No really advanced functions there!

The software offers operations that today are fairly elementary: basic transitions and moves, audio with poor sync and Hollywood gadgets (butterfiles on the screen and such).

This pseudoDELUXE cannot do as simple moves as zoom in/out to/from a specified point on the photo. There are only 3 predefined zoom in/out rates without user’s being able to set timing and scale of the zoom. And there are slideshowmakers that provide an option for the viewer to "travel" around the photo from one point zoomed in/our to another.

As mentioned before, during installation the software without customer’s consent installs its own viewer and forces all madia to open in its viewers, destroying all custom settings for opening clips and movies in other viewers that the user may have specified before. If so, I may expect that it replaces and ruins many other multimedia and codec related settings.

The program now and then attempts to connect with internet in a manner that Windows firewall standard settings will permit without prompting the user.

In spite of its name, the software is pretty simple although it looks and feels seem "delux". If you are seeking decent operating options rather than gadgets, you may skip this GAOTD and turn to decent free image browsers/editors (like Irfanview) and media software with a slideshow maker option.

And Wondershare used to have a good reputation in my eyes – they used to enjoy it, but now its gone!

Regards
Marek

I have the same problems as PhilS and Paul Costello. It's installed but only flashes on the screen then disappears. I purchase this program some time ago and ran it fine on XP but when I switched to Win7 no luck at all. Wondershare told me some time ago "that it has not been updated for some time so it might not work on Win 7 Ultimate". So I guess it's tough luck for me having spent money on it.
I tried it on 2 computers running 7 Ultimate with the same results.

I am trying to register over at the forums to report a technical problem, but still waiting on the confirmation.

I'd appreciate any insight on what might be going wrong... did the Giveaway period end for some reason?

@ post 10: Agreed. Makes me wonder how come those singing its praises on here have conspicuously failed to mention that. . . or have they not actually used this program at all? Hmmmm.

Wondershare's behaviour here is appalling. The download packager dumps on your PC, without your knowledge, other Wondershare crap that then modifies file associations / seeks to run constantly / phones home etc etc. It's more like malware than software -- as you'll discover after uninstalling the dreadful Wondershare Player only to have it keep re-installing itself again and again (it's coded into the Wondershare Slideshow DVD Builder: when you start the Builder, it goes deep into the registry to re-activate the Player.)

This kind of thuggish behaviour -- because it is thuggery to take over a computer, decline to tell the user anything, install software without permission and change file associations without asking, attempting -- in my case -- to push VLC Player aside as well as WinAmp for Wondershare's HopelessWare -- isn't the mark of a reputable developer at all.

Uninstalled. And I certainly won't be recommending anything from Wondershare to anyone in future. Grrrrrr.

I've used this for years and always put music with my slideshows...
#24, you can do most or all of what you referenced with this program-- FX, transitions of pictures/videos as well as audio, I can fine-tune the length of display or transition by the second.... maybe it doesn't 'zoom'(I don't know), but it's a great user-friendly program....

Installed fine on my Win 7 64 system but see installation note below.

Installation Note: As Sarge, #13, indicated, the install seemed to hang ... in my case it was my anit-virus software (Norton 360) that disabled the install due to "supicious activity". (Norton does this when it encounters an "unknown" program that attempts to write regustry entries. Disable your anti-virus software and it SHOULD show an installation screen and install fully in just a couple of minutes.

Tip on "Activation": Get your code here first:

http://www.wondershare.com/slideshow/video-slideshow-maker.html

Then install the software. That way you'll have the code ready to input as soon as the software starts up for the first time.

Notes: Since I use Photodex ProShow Producer v6 for my slideshows, I obtained and installed and this software more out of curiosity than anything else. Having said that, I was able to create a realitively decent 1 minute slideshow in under 10 minutes including the addition of a music track, having NEVER BEFORE seen or used this software. So, I can say, without hesitation, that it's an easy-to-use program, does what it says it will and that you really can't go wrong with this giveaway as an addition to your multimedia software library. Like anything else though, the more you use and become familiar with this (or ANY) software, the better your end results will be - my "test" just BARELY scratched the surface. If you DO try this program, don't forget to download and install the additional (FREE) resources that Dean, #14 suggested.

#15: "A pretty decent slideshow maker with plenty of options; it lacks as do most slideshow maker’s the ability to tie an image to an audio track, other than that it is a very versatile piece of software as it needs to be for such a high price."

If/when a pro or semi-pro wants to create a slideshow they do it in a video editor. There you can import your images into one or more tracks, add FX &/or corrections, vary the lengths of time they'll be displayed, add overlays or do composites if you want, do the pans & zooms, add whatever transitions you want from one image to the next, AND you can group or associate an audio clip [or clips] with each image or video clip, as well as manage the transitions between one audio clip & the next. You can do just about anything you can think of really, like having a zoom happen right as the music changes tempo.

But that can also be a lot of work. Slideshow software like today's GOTD are designed primarily to make it easier, and frankly because the developers writing slideshow software most often don't have the code base for an NLE available. Companies like Sony & Nero & Roxio etc. usually include slideshows in their video software, albeit it's usually a bit harder to master than something like DVD Slideshow Builder Deluxe.

DVD Slideshow Builder Deluxe is a GOTD, so I'm not sure how relevant this is to most of the people who'll read this, but if your going to pay money for something to build slideshows, & you want to do more complex things creating those slideshows, spend your money on a entry level or home version video editor. Have patience watching the sales & you'll find some good deals, as low as free after rebate [Frys is good for that]. I've picked up apps like Corel's VideoStudio Pro for less than $20 on Amazon. Newegg's had Nero 2014 Platinum for ~$35, & I've seen different versions of Sony's video apps there for around the same price.

The biggest problem with slideshows, or any still images on a video DVD, is that it's old technology designed for TVs with a picture tube. It's actually hard nowadays not to do better. Many on-line photo sites let you view a collection of pictures as a slideshow, & there are all sorts of ways of viewing those on a HDTV or PC/laptop display. Many [most?] cameras, tablets, & cells let you display photos singly or in a slideshow to a [HD]TV or PC/laptop display. Many [I think most] DVD & Blu-Ray players will display images one at a time or in a slideshow from a disc or USB storage or over your home network. And while it's not talked about much because of all those other ways you can view a slideshow on a HDTV, you can do the same thing as a slideshow DVD at higher resolution & with less limitations on a Blu-Ray disc you create & burn.

So IMHO ignore the DVD in DVD Slideshow Builder Deluxe -- it'll output several HD formats. Try outputting to highest bit rate mpg2 if you want or need to re-encode the results. Encoding your slideshow for your tablet or smartphone is pretty self explanatory in typical Wondershare fashion. Tsmuxer &/or multiAVCHD will let you get your slideshow on a BD disc your player should handle - multiAVCHD will let you add menus -- and both are free. Or you can use something like Nero Platinum to create Blu-Ray discs [around $35 on sale or free after rebate].
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/tsMuxeR
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/multiAVCHD
.
But if you must go the DVD route, Do bear in mind that while video DVDs may look OK on your HDTV, that's largely because you're viewing 25 or 30 or more different images a second, so your eyes don't have time to focus on each one to see its faults.

With video DVDs at the least your photos will have to be 720 x 480 or 576 [NTSC/PAL] -- that's 345,600 or 414,720 pixels -- so you'll lose a lot of resolution & detail, since I don't know of a cell phone, & certainly not any cameras that don't take pictures in the several [if not dozen or more] megapixel range. There are several other restrictions when you put your images into broadcast spec video -- often many of them can be ignored & the results will still look fine, but software may impose them anyway... which ones, how much, & how those conversions are done internally in the software varies among the different programs you can use.

When reducing the photo's size you also have to convert from the image's square pixels to the non-square pixels used on video DVDs, which is the same as analog broadcast. Very roughly 640 x 480 becomes 720 x 480, but the actual math behind the more accurate conversion in video software is both more complicated & can vary from one app to the next. Now frankly a lot of people won't notice if the aspect ratio [proportions] is off, or won't care if they do -- I've seen plenty of wrong conversions broadcast via cable. If it matters to you research the image sizes recommended for your software, or run tests comparing before & after. Bear in mind that non-square pixel video will itself be distorted on a PC unless you use player software [e.g. PowerDVD] that compensates by altering the displayed frame size. FWIW the Vegas Pro 9 manual recommends sizing &/or cropping your images to 655 x 480 & 787 x 576 [NTSC/PAL] maintaining the original aspect ratio before importing them into a project for standard broadcast or DVD.

*According to the specs* color ranges, and the saturation of some colors will also be reduced. Images may also be softened or blurred, beyond what you'll get just encoding them to mpg2 video, to overcome the flickering you might see on an interlaced display [remember we're talking about specs for TVs - not HDTVs]. If you're going to play your DVD slideshow on a regular TV you *might* want to soften your images beforehand, particularly any with sharp horizontal edges. Better software will also let you encode mpg2 with progressive frames or make them interlaced -- one or the other may look better to you.

@8 CookieRevised / @11 bill / @12 Kris / @13 Sarge

In one of the first steps you can choose a different location for the program:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10366431/_GOTD/WondershareDVDSlideshowBuilderDeluxe61_20040724/ActieDownloader.png

And than the DOWN-LOADER will begin downloading the original program from Wondershare: ~35Mb. "dsb_deluxe_full18.exe"
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10366431/_GOTD/WondershareDVDSlideshowBuilderDeluxe61_20040724/Installatieverloop.png

Therefore give the setup access to the internet for downloading.

Besides the program it also downloads a media-player: about 29Mb "player_full1374.exe"

This will be installed without asking:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10366431/_GOTD/WondershareDVDSlideshowBuilderDeluxe61_20040724/Player.png

And very nice :-( : after uninstalling, it will be installed again after starting "Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder Deluxe" and become the default player again.

Thank goodness I am using the WinPatrol tool, because this is one unruly Wondershare giveaway! I've not had these problems in quite a while with a download from Wondershare OR most of the other giveaway vendors. Without notification or asking permission, this program auto-installs a Multimedia Player that tries to replace ALL of your default media player for some files (in my case, it keeps trying to replace iTunes, MediaPlayer, and a DVDPlayer package!). As noted above, it also tries to add a "helper" program to your startup files. Wondershare: I am not unhappy to have another media player, but a) please ask my permission before installing it, and b) please do NOT install ANY helper startups without my permission. GOTD, I'm grateful for the products and service you provide, but if your contract with the vendors specifies they NOT hide bloatware/malware, please enforce you contract!

It simply idles doing nothing on the installation screen with the message "installing, please wait....(0% finished)". The slideshow seen in that window is scrolling but other than that no activity at all.

Also tried installing under the Windows administration account, no difference... same (no-)result....

Excellent tool today, as almost any program coming from this developer, that offers a lot of functions, transitions and motion types in a friendly and neat GUI.

Perfect for those who takes lots of pics or movies during vacation, since it can import them easily from camcorders or other cameras and devices.

Users can add custom subtitles and music tracks, or even add their own voice to make a comment on their slideshow, before burning it to a DVD or to other video formats compatible with pretty much any kind of mobile phone out there.

Overall it's a KEEPER!

3 THUMBS UP from me!

BEST FREE ALTERNATIVE?

Here you go:

http://download.videohelp.com/tin2tin

To add an audio track (for instance a recorded narration) to an image or to a specific point of your slideshow, just export your slideshow to mpg/avi format, then open it with the freeware “DubIt”:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Other-VIDEO-Tools/DubIt.shtml

After recording your narration or adding your music sounds to specific points of your slideshow, export to wav/mp3 and then import them into you DVD slideshow GUI project.

Enjoy!! ^_^

The final installation is about 85 megs, and the Wondershare Helper Compact is not missing, too ...

Don't forget to load the addition 82 megs of additional resources:

A Chinese company with address, phone&fax:
Established in 2003 and located in Shenzhen, adjacent to the international financial and trade center Hong Kong, Wondershare has extended its business worldwide, consistently dedicated to satisfy customers with diversified consumer software products and services.

One year ago we had had Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder Standard 6.1.11 on May, 13th.

Here are the old reviews :
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/dvd-slideshow-builder-standard-6111/

On the first start a crash : access violation at address 0401c662 in module "ProjetDoc.dll" Read of address 00000000.

Restarted, it works, a modern interface opens, you add your photos and then ... nearly unlimited options to personalize your slideshow.

If you love to make slideshows, it is an impressive tool, really.

I have made a short test. Have a look - and yes, it is only a home made pizza (I am a pizza fan). It is an 8 megs .AVI file, the HD .WMV video resulted in a 80 MByte file. I uploaded only the short example.

You can save your slideshow as DVD (to be burned) or as video in different format. A really complete program. Makes a good impression.

I have to admit, that I am not a slideshow fan. But I keep this piece of software - and delete the Wondershare helper compact...

Looks as a powerful software and installed well on my XPSP3.
But how come 70$ will not buy you an editable PAN & ZOOM FX ??
This culprit takes a lot of the "true content editing" fill of the software and moves it to the low "lets just finish quickly" fill.

I have this from another giveaway site. Pretty good.

If your hard disk is full of other giveaway and freeware, then it is time to reflect why you wish to keep on adding more and more.

Up to a certain point, when you have had enough of giveaway and free software and there are (say for example) 1,000 programs in your PC, then enough is enough.

Be more selective and pick and choose only those that you really like.
Or only update to newer versions of previous giveaways that you have installed.

Don’t take any chances with questionable stuff that may damage your PC irretrievably even after an uninstall process.

It is impossible for giveaway websites to check all software for safety. You have to take the risk if you wish to install.

Nowadays computer coders may not always be ethical. Some do not like it that you remove their software and leave code to damage the use of your computer.

Some will make serious changes without even notifying your first – and that means without your approval.

Sometimes the damage is not deliberate – it is just that the program coders are subcontracted out to very low quality external coders who are so bad that they write code that cause serious damage to users' systems.

Choose wisely and stay safe.
