I agree with Eoin. Was watching a movie I ripped. Halfway through computer stalled. By the next morning computer barely functioned. Had trouble even getting into safe mode. Had to reformat computer.

This installed easily and runs great. The only problem I've had (and this is the same problem I had with Plato DVD Copy) is that the video and audio don't synch and get worse as I watch. That's funny, Plato DVD Copy was also a Giveaway of the Day and the appearance is very similar, all of the same wording, just moved around on the gui. You would think they were created by the same people.

And why is it that everytime I go to a page on this website that I get a pop-up sign-in for a webpage at IP address 91.201.3.131, which happens to be somewhere near Moscow. It happens in both IE and Firefox, with no other website, and Norton Security finds no problems on my computer. Which suggests that it's something on the website.

This software is pretty good. It is true that when I installed it on Vista x64 I also got the Driver Not Signed warning but everything seems to work alright.
The software is pretty easy to use. I wish they had a way to rip a dvd at the resolution the original DVD had instead of being forced intoa 640x480 or 320x240. Many of my dvds are 720x480 and I'm trying to build up a library for a media server in my home. I did have the program crash on me a couple times but restarting it wasn't a big deal. I definitely wouldn't say that this software rips dvds flawlessly. I thought everything was getting ripped just fine until i realized some of the files were much smaller than expected. Upon opening the files I found that they were only a few minutes long instead of like an hour. Reripping the dvd works many times but sometimes I'm forced to rerip a movie 2-4 times to finally get the entire movie. So far though i haven't had anything that wasn't able to be ripped at all though. I would say this software is excellent for freeware or maybe if it were about 10 bucks. I would not spend anymore than 10 dollars on this if i were buying this out right.

I installed this for myself on a newer laptop running Vista, then for a friend running XP on an older computer. Ripping a dvd for friend took several hours using all available resources; ripping a dvd for me took just minutes. Program works fine both ways and I couldn't be happier.

I was excited to see this as I downloaded a previous program from this company a few months ago (don't remember what it was called). It works pretty good! Although I am having trouble ripping a DVD my uncle made me when he made me a DVD of shows he recorded from TV. If I can figure that out, I'll use this even more!

Gotta post, even if it's after time. It's been suggested here to use TweakUAC to have you're Vista User Account Control be "silenced" (the term the TweakUAC developer uses) so you're UAC runs on auto pilot, never getting you're permission to allow software to run (in actuality, it's called "elevating" the software's permissions).

Since UAC is such a big issue on Vista, I've been accumulating all the information I can, and I don't recommend this. Even though I'm not a professional, too many professionals think it's a bad idea. The TweakUAC developer sincerely believes his critics are wrong and UAC is simply meant to keep you from screwing up your system, so, as long as you know you started something, then you don't need to be nagged about it. But my research says that even though the nags from UAC are going to be over something you initiated 9,999 times out of 10,000, UAC was partially created for that 10,000 time when it's malware that's trying to activate something. Most of the explanations of this are written for developers and a bit tough to slog through, but here's a decent one:
http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windowsvista/archive/2007/01/23/security-features-vs-convenience.aspx

UAC got part of it's bad rep because, when you initially set up a machine, it nags you to death. But, once the computer gets into a stable state, that dwindles done to a dull roar. The real problem is not enough developers are writing apps that don't need to trip the UAC, but the technologies are there under .net framework and it's just a question of developers catching up.

So, though it's an occassional hassle, it seems that UAC is better left on.

I paid darn good money for Roxio Easy Media Suite about six months ago. I've done approx. 75-100 copies with the "disk copy" module...and it's very time consuming. This giveaway has reduced that portion of the "suite" to a mere afterthought. Aside from the quickness of the app and simplicity of the interface, it is very light on its resource requirement. Roxio is such a RAM hog when messing with video.

This software downloaded, installed and registered with no problems at all on my Vista 32-bit PC. I don't give advice but here is something that works for me...I always open the read-me file and take a look...and I ALWAYS open setup files in "run as administrator" mode. It saves what little hair I have left!

DVD+R are a better format (Verbatim of course).
Some burners cannot handle them (though that is getting rarer).
Quite a few players cannot play them.
HOWEVER
LG burners (which are the best), can burn to them.
There is an option to set the 'book type' to DVD-ROM, which not all burners can do. LG can.
Nero is capable of setting that flag for you.
Once the 'book type'is set, it will play in anything.

Just like someone above, this Extra DVD Ripper can do the dvd ripping works well. But I think today's ripper can not do well with high output quality. I think the two other free dvd ripper are much better than this Extra ripper. DVD Shrink: http://www.dvdshrink.org/
DVD Ripper: http://www.bestdvdripper.net/
Some functions about this dvd ripper:

# External codec Support: Our program can use external codec’s power feature to optimize the output video quality
# Vob Scan support: With vob scan support you can open ifo file’s or rip your vob file to any video format
# Suited for both veterans and beginners: If you are a veteran, you will find there are so many options you can set, if it's the first time you rip DVDs, you don't have to consider these options, just use default settings and rip DVDs in a few clicks.
# Auto check your CPU type: Check your CPU type auto, that ensure you can rip your DVDs with the best ripping speed.
# Support preview: You can preview the movies before you begin ripping them, even you can watch the movies at the same time when you are ripping DVDs.
# Rip at will: You can rip entire DVD movie or just one or several chapters;
# Easy-to-use interface: Most functions can be called up with a simple mouse click or menu selection. You can conveniently make skins for isoft DVD Ripper through our color scheme system.
# Flexible settings: iSoft DVD Ripper Platinum is able to automatically detect the input video formats and then set the application's parameters for the best possible performance. The default parameters work in most cases, but you can change them easily to best suit your needs.

I love to test different video converters against my favorite. Installed and registered without any problem on my Vista PC. The interface of the program is nice and you have drag and drop feature which is very good. Conversion was good and fast. I converted .flv to .avi. There was no drop in quality.

Installed on Vista x64 and XP x64.
Just to note; for any modern movies that have any of the dozens of varrying DRM features a DRM passthrough driver is required.
The web page for the suggests DVD4:3. Only problem with that is it's not anywhere near as commonly updated as the industry leading and ground-breaking AnyDVD (new DRM updates almost weekly).

For the price, just not worth it.
CloneDVDMobile from
http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html
is far more user expandable; with a support forum thread dedicated to modifying the program to fit various devices.
http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=11381

I'll be sticking with that. It's not that this program is bad, it's just that for $55 it doesn't compete with CDM.

A side note; Driver Signing is just a pitbull that barks at every leaf that blows by. ;)
In this case; ignore it.

This is a really great program! I downloaded it without any issues, except that I couldn't register it until I opened the program the second time. Anyway, that's no big deal. I've already ripped a Dvd to my computer in windows media format and in audio format (an exercise video I wanted to have the audio from for my MP3 player). I did need to use the help site to figure out how to work it, but it's a well done site and it was really easy to learn. This is the best thing I've downloaded from GAOTD to date! Thank you so much!

Anybody getting error regarding d3d9.dll or similar errors: This means that you are running an older bersion of DirectX. You MUST be running a version of DX greater than 8 in order to use this software!!!!!

I checked both softwares out, and both work beautifully on my Dimension 3000 running Win2K Pro.

Installed great on Vista 64 bit. Program is fast and versatile. BUT, my Cowon A2 does not recognize the codec's this program is using for any of the avi/xvid or wmv formats I attempted to convert to. I haven't tried it on my iPhone yet, but so far, I'm sticking with DVDClonemobile by Slysoft. Also, I haven't heard back from the Extra support team yet. Still waiting.

Installed just fine.
Registration works fine.
Ripped all three movies just fine.

I have only two problems with the ripper:
One: You cannot save your custom settings.
Two: it takes the same amount of time to rip as it does to watch the movie.

HOWEVER, all three movies ripped with no errors and the quality is superb.

Movies ripped:
Blue Thunder
I-Robot
Saw 5

I installed this on my 64 bit laptop running Vista Home Premium, after turning off driver signature block. I tried ripping a DVD without DRM that I had previously ripped to start with. It ripped to the hard drive just fine but when going into burn mode it simply locked up and refused to continue. I tried this three times with the same result each time. I may still make use of the program with further testing but for now I'll stick with Clone DVD and ANY DVD which in three years has yet to fail me.

Since no updates are allowed with a free install, you also have to wonder how long it will be able to rip DRM Dvd's, since that function is forever being changed which is another reason why I prefer ANY DVD because it is always being updated.

This is the first one of these that I have encountered so far that does exactly what it says it does. I've had no luck with other programs of this kind, however, with Extra DVD Ripper I was able to watch a DVD on my iPod. ::still cheering:: I was also able to get it into Windows Movie Maker and edit scenes. ::very happy::

A couple of notes on this program so far:

1) make sure you check if you want subtitles or not using menu on the right, the test DVD I copied has subtitles, but a small 2 minute clip I made today I was able to disable them, so make sure you check it to be sure it is set how you want it to be.

2) I have a brand new (2 weeks old) eMachine with Win XP, 1GB DDR2, and an AMD Athlon 2650e processor and it took all night (left it running overnight) to rip a DVD and was at 97% when I got back to the computer around noon the next day. This is a program to leave running overnight rather than expect a fast rip, but it is well worth the overnight wait.

I only wish I could give more than 1 thumbs up for this one!

Thank you so very much GAOTD and Extra Software Inc.

Two Thumbs up & 5/5 stars

#62 -- I have the same problem as #18. I tried to copy UNPROTECTED sets of DVD files from four different folders on my hard drive. They all fail with an error message like this:

Extra DVD Copy: dvdcopy.exe - Application Error
===============================================
The instruction at “0×0040bf0c” referenced memory at “0xc4d39b38″. The memory could not be “written”.
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

I uninstalled, downloaded again and reinstalled. Same problem. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling on a different drive. I still get the same error. I tried to copy DVD files from different folders each time.

My tests show that the problem is not in the downloaded file nor in the files that I tried to copy nor in the hard drive. So it must be in the program. What else could it be? Does anyone else get an error when trying to copy files from hard drive to disk?

I hope there is a solution. This is a program that I would like to keep. I can't use it because all my DVD files are on the hard drive.

Works for me. Copied a DVD and played it on my Xbox 360. Cut out all the previews and the extras since I never look at those anyway. Press play and the movie fires right up.

This might be common knowledge but you might need to use DVD-R and not +R. At least that's all that works with my equipment. Windows XP sp3. Athlon XP. Pioneer DVD burner.

I downloaded and installed software and was able to open and registered Extra DVD Copy. But when I try to open Extra DVD Ripper I get a dialog box saying "in the title bar" dvdripper_pro.exe-Entry Point Not Found. Then in the body of the box I get: The procedure entry point WMCreateWriter could not be located in the dynamic link library WMVCore.DLL.
I tried downloading from their website, but got the same error message.
I'm running win2000 pro.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

The "unsigned driver is "pccouffin" or something similar. It's the typical driver for most applications of this type. It installed on my Vista (chose ignore & my XP Pro). I've never experienced any issues because of it! It's a good looking give away that seems to do what it says.
I used my name with the download from the publishers homepage and the keys I got here today. It worked like a champ. So far, I'm extremely happy with it.

Not sure why Tweak UAC won't download for you #112. I'm not sure it even works on an X64 system. That could be why coupled with what from my understanding, is even tighter security in Vista X64 then X86. Sorry, I wish I had an answer for you but I just don't. My systems are all 32 bit.

-Go to the publisher's site and download their official trial setup.
-Install the official trial and register with the codes in the GAOTD download ReadMe.txt (You can use any name.)

Nice program overall, but it does commit at least one major sin, in my opinion anyway. "Help" is only a web link, no real Help file. Which to me, though becoming a common practice these days, is not only annoying, but just plain lazy.

It's copy also failed the playback test in 2 of 3 players. My Panasonic and Sony players both kicked the disc as unknown format, a cheapo "Classic" player liked it though. (Thus far DVD Shrink has been the only program I've tried, that can burn discs those first two will accept.)

To 62: Despite what your friends at RIAA tell you, there are any number of perfectly legitimate reasons to be trying to burn video from your hard drive, that have nothing to do with piracy. Amazing as it may seem, these days some people actually like to edit and create DVD projects on their computer, from things like their own home videos.

Installed on XP SP3 and Win 7 Beta. Works just fine on both PCs, albeit a little slow on the Win 7 PC. That's to be expected due to the fact that it's older hardware being used in a test / lab environment.
