I just made a new rule in my windows 7 firewall to block any internet activity from c:\program files (x86)\digiarty\winx_hd_video_converter_deluxe\winx_hd_video_converter_deluxe.exe.
Was not easy to find how to do it in Win7, but managed it anyway in the firewall configuration.

And now no more nagging screen, great

@43,44- for WinX, the method suggested by #37 works great. other 'brands', like Wondershare or Leewo- deny or block 'UPDATE.EXE' the same way. just OK the wrapper if you DL from this page.

I use Agnitum Outpost and swatting those kills the nag sceen. just make sure you can register- if not give it a window of olermission, then block it again!

You don't get it, do you ? The program will NOT upgrade on its own. When the program opens a window asking if you want to upgrade, just hit cancel. How hard is that ? Been using it for a long time, best converter i have for the output file quality.

Tried to set auto-update to never, but the options were greyed out. So it would update to a newer but trial version as and when they saw fit. So it's not a giveaway, it's a loan.

Re # 40 Recommended you to try WinX DVD Copy Pro I got it from Digiary's spring giveaway. It works fine to clone DVD to a blank DVD at fast speed. I have used this DVD Copy software for a couple of months.I have to say it's worthy to try.

can I use this to copy a pre recorded dvd onto a empty dvd disc ?

Great program, the video converter i use the most (and i have lots of them). Very good quality of converted files, reasonably fast and you can adjust every parameters you want. Great bonus a You Tube Downloader! Of course when you open the program you have to click "cancel" because you don't want to upgrade it. But how difficult is that, for havng such a nice program costing the great sum of 0.00 $ ? A real keeper, thanks GAOTD

If you can't see the call home activity in your firewall logs, just block the main executable, typically

c:\program files (x86)\digiarty\winx_hd_video_converter_deluxe\winx_hd_video_converter_deluxe.exe

from all outgoing connectivity.

FWIW I recommend "Windows Firewall Control" (Hint: Be a supporter)

With regard to "automatic updates," if memory serves me correctly, the program CHECKS for updates but doesn't automatically INSTALL them. Instead, when an update is available a popup will appear, notifying you that an update is available and would you like to install it. Simply answer "no" and that takes care of THAT.

I know some people complain about the number of video converters offered here at GOTD. I like to have multiple converters installed, because some videos are converted better using one particular program, while other videos seem to have better output using a different converter. If the output of one converter is of poor quality I'll switch to a different converter and try again. Sometimes it may take three or more different converters before I find one that outputs a decent converted video, but at least it's accomplished!

It's good to see that support for multiple processor cores is becoming more widely implemented. It's taken quite a while for some software developers to make use of the additional processing power of multiple processor cores, which will greatly improve the speed of conversion over the time it would take for a single processor core to do the job. Generally speaking, the more cores the merrier!

I've had nothing but good experiences with Digiarty products, and thanks to Digiarty and GOTD I'm amassing quite a collection of them - not that I'm complaining, mind you. In fact quite the opposite! Thanks again for the great software, guys (and gals, if applicable)!

The update always greayed portion is causing anxiety of free gift. Can one use this program always. Normally when one app is updated, then it becomes trial version. Would any body of known issue clarify. How to disable or one can leave it as such to use for ever

This beauty allows you to copy audio, including TruHd and DTS-HD master audio. When I convert music video I want to keep the audio intact. I do realize that it crashes when used on cheesy machines, it runs great on my Gateway with 2nd gen I7 running Win 7 home premium.

Handbrake is rather good as well, but a little harder to use.

In NO way would I pay ANYTHING for a video converter. But thanks for sharing it guys

For those crying about automatic updates on software in general, all you need to do is block the application with your firewall. If it can't connect to the internet, it can't update.

However, I just thought I would let everyone know that the changed selection does not stick. It immediately reverts back to "always". I don't even have to download and install this in order to say how well it works. I----> LOVE <---- WinX products and I keep an eagle's eyes lookout for either the GAOTD offerings or upgrades to what I already have. The basic WinX DVD Ripper that is frequently offered here is too good to be true for making (retail) DVD backups with just a few steps to do before it begins its set function to backup. When other backup programs began to lose the ability to decrypt newer discs, WinX came along to save the day...and expensive discs. From the basic version came the WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe which I also use with considerable pleasure. It too does a great job processing my retail and personal home video needs. I love that it can also download YouTube videos and process them to decent quality. Like most DVD/Blu-ray disc buyers with a desire to merely preserve the original disc and use a copied disc I have no need or wish to copy and illegally distribute them....something the movie stupidos, er, studios choose to arugue against where copying software is concerned. In simple terms I would encourage GAOTD users to TRY THIS SOFTWARE! Especially since the kind folks at Digiarty are offering it with ZERO fees. (Thank you Digiarty!!!) Also, it's a near footprintless software that doesn't bog down your system with unnecessary add-ons, toolbars, etc. As you may have already read in the free version stipulations there are NO free upgrades so you may want to ensure you uncheck any box that would cause an automatic update to invalidate your free version. You may decide that you like and/or love the product enough to purchase an upgrade. I hope this comment post helps prospective users. It really does come from a tried and true user experience. @23 XP-Man Just downloaded and tried it out and it worked. however a few things you need to know when using.
the program has no installer, copy the two files to a folder and start the exe. An icon will be displayed in your taskbat (next to the clock so to say). you need to click the icon to set the program to "ON" there will be a visible change in the icon to show you it is on. Now when you go to options in the WinX program the update option still LOOKS grayed out but you can click it now and will get the dropdown where you can set the update check to never. The fact that an option still looks grayed out but is usable might be true for many more programs.

Whilst this has support for multi cpu processing, it does seem to lack the options to fully utilise the latest AMD, Nvidia and Intel GPU's, which from my experience does make for a really faster transcoding experience.

For any paid for products, this should be the norm nowadays, especially in such a saturated market.

I was looking for a program to crop videos to remove some unwanted lettering at the bottom. None of my other programs could do this. This one can so it is a keeper for me.

I like the sleek look - but - I wish the size of the windows could be adjusted (to see small detractors to pics or the main focus of the pic) & second - I don't see why an "option" could be - a pull-down word menu across the top - it doesn't have to be opened when first installed - but - it could be an option for us old-timers that really want to see "words" - ANY program I use as a matter of everyday use - uses the word pull-down style of menus (pics can mean up to a thousand words & I hate guessing as to which of those thousand I am addressing) Thx Digitary & GOTD.

I guess if you can download stuff free - It doesn't mean you know how to read or are smart enough to read- after 35 years of being a computer tech, I have finally read some people that "SHOULD NOT" own computers. C'mon people "READ" - the extra stuff (right at the TOP) "If you want to you can enter - YOU are NOT forced to - & there is a place to check off where you don't have to upgrade & last (before it finishes downloading) how much RAM does the person have - how fast CPU - multiple CPU's? - caching - drive space avail. - these all have a bearing on HOW FAST "ANYTHING" gets done on a computer - I don't expect this to be seen by all - but just know - There are a few of us that READ the offer, the suggestions, & to my dismay - these comments. Aside from the fact that I despise soccer, I dl'd this anyway, only to find that besides the ridiculous theme, it is without a doubt the s-l-o-w-e-s-t converter I've ever had the mispleasure of testing. It's uninstalled. Tanx, but no tanx!

Thanks GOTD! Successfully installed and activated on a Win 7 64 bit. Now I am able to convert avi, wmv, mkv, flv even HD camcorder videos whatever to various video formats and have unbounded movie enjoyment on my iPad. The output quality is fairly good. Apparently for me, the built in YouTube downloader has made this software impossible to refuse.

Program installed over, & updated the old version 5.0.2, to 5.0.6, and works fine. MSWin 7 HP 64 bit.
Registration code is given on a popup window when you visit the page noted on the activation note & in the read-me file. That code copy/pasted into the registration box works just fine without having to download the program again from thier site, and without having to sign up for the contest if you don't desire to do so.

Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit system. The registration key is on their World Cup side.

I am disappointed. For a commemorative edition I expect more than a simple label "World Cup Edition", the interface should be in the colors of Brazil, the "Run" button should be a football, the "add video" sign should be a goal and... Sorry, no I will not collect this.

The software version is 5.0.6.196, the version from January, 14th, was 5.0.2. The codecs are mainly from 09.2013.

A small not resizable window opens, you add your video or an URL for download, you can select, how many cores the program should use ... and then GO!

Back to the "CPU Core use" - I don't see an advantage, especially, if it is buggy. When I select 1 core, it uses 4, the other selections are correct.

One of the many converters, what a pity that it is not a real world Cup edition. LOL
