I installed Cover Commander on my computer when it was the giveawayoftheday, it installed fine (Windows Vista Premium)but found that I had no use for it, so I tried to uninstall it, first, from the uninstall that came in the folder when I installed it and that didn't work. So, I then tried to uninstall it from Control Panel, Install/Uninstall and it does nothing, it didn't work, I've tried it several times in the last 2 days. I have no idea how to uninstall it, could someone please help me. I know it's not a big deal to have it on my computer, but I don't want it and I wanna be able to uninstall it and I should be able to uninstall it.
If the company has done this on purpose, because I know some of them do, then that's pretty bad, and if that were the case, even if I did want it and liked it, I definetly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. That's a pretty sneaky way of making people keep it.

Can someone please help me get rid of it, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or could it be my computer(I doubt it)it's a fairly new computer, but you never know.

Thank you, all in all I like mostly everything that I've gotton from giveawayoftheday. Thanks again.

This is a cool idea, but it freezes every time I use more than 2 pics. You can only add two things, and when you try to add a third pic, it freezes up. Good concept, but the program doesn't work. I have Vista Home Premium, and its still crap.

hey in the installation instructions it says non commercial use only...so what freakin good is it?

I wanted it to make commercial covers for my ebooks, now I have to uninstall it.

That condition makes it absolutely useless to me!!!

I installed it and it registered, but it's still got the trial version watermark. Uninstalled after many failed attempts to re-register.

It's not worth $69 anyway.

Downloaded, Ran Setup as Administrator. Program ran by itself following installation and reported:

"Virtual 3d Cover Commander stopped working."

Windows Vista 64-bit
8GB Ram

Never did get to where to register it.

If anybody else resolved this problem, please let me know.

Thanks.

Keeper! Great program! Definitely easier to use than to try to make something that looks like a real book cover in PSP7 or Photoshop! I can do the images & text with PSP & then EASILY put them on a book cover with this, & I don't need to use it for commercial marketing, as I don't sell my kids books, I only give them to friends & family anyway. This will be a nice little touch to make them more "finished" & pro looking. If I did have a commercial need for it, I'd say it's worth the price so as not to have to attempt to create a realistic looking cover for something & take all that time on an eitor, & have it look bad. I know I can't make a cover look this real. It's hard.

Thanks much GOTD & Insofta!

I wasn't sure about this at first as I thought what's the use of having an application that made boxes for software. I thought they disappeared a decade ago; but then I discovered it was a lot more than just box art because it included book covers, DVD boxes and CD cases plus more, so I'm converted.

The great thing is that the registration code we get also works with the official demo version downloadable from the home site ;)

Once the demo has been registered it becomes the full version. Also you'll find an excellent tutorial from the same site:

WOW- i am so glad to check here today and get this for free!!!

Thanx so much... Its not for everybodys usage- but I have been putting off adding tons of pictures into a database... so perfect timing!

This has a 3D engine packed into it which allows for applying different sides as JPG or GIF and Such. It has tons off features as realtime [lighting placements, reflection opacity, and tons tons more].

This Program would make any designers life easier if they can implement it into their work.

It's only resource intensive during render, but less so that a lot of other 3D rendering engines.

I had Photoshop CS3 open during a render and got an out of memory warning and the program stopped responding.

This on a P4/3GHZ/1GB RAM that runs bare bones with only absolutely necessary services and startup programs running in the background.

But like I said..not unusual for anything that renders in 3D on the average PC.

This is a definate thumbs up for FREE. A snap to install on Vista Premium 64-bit.
If you have ever worked with any illustration software, i.e. Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop, Serif Draw Plus etc., you know that getting the right look that creates the illusion of something real can be a bit of a challenge. Especially if you are particular about the details like straight edges, accurate reflections, angle of light & camera, and adding the details of text and images.
This program is a piece of 3D cake to use. You can add images and text that you create in other programs. This is a good thing because some programs are perfect at creating great dynamic text, others are great at manipulating photographic images, and others are great at from scratch illustrations.
It is easy to change the look instantly with the preview pane always showing the changes as you make them.
A simple, good program that is easy and fun to use. It is a great way to learn about 3D illustration techniques without the HUGH learning curve...in fact, it took me maybe 5 minutes to come up with an acceptable CD cover with reflection, customs colors, and saved as jpeg. Who cares if it is not for commercial use...if someone is actually making their living doing illustrations, they will already have the arsenal of professional programs they need.
For those of us who won't be hiring professional artists, it is fun to be able to create classy images ourselves.
Cover Commander is a keeper in my book...
Thanks GOTD team for this one.

Thank you GAOTD! A sweet little program and if you are into this sort of thing it would be well worth the money at it's normal price let alone $0.

I could make great use of this, but there is the small concern of the GAOTD terms of not using it for commercial use (sorry to repeat this)

Slight hitch installing. It said the file was corrupt, but a second go at it and it worked fine.

* VERY easy to use. Who needs the help file!
* Love being able to do all the rotations with the mouse
* Will save hours over doing this in an editor
* $0 - Fantasic, $69 well worth it. One box could save that amount in terms of time
* Fast (see PC spec below though)

A definite keeper.

PC Spec: 3GHz, dual core P4, 3GB Ram, XP Home SP3

Hi,

Got the software installed and registered with no problem. Frankly, I much prefer Ecover Engineer to this one. Primarily because Ecover Engineer allows you to open the front, top, back, and side of the template in a graphics editor so you know from the outset that your image is going to work. With this program, it's hit or miss--a lot more work to get it right.

Can't really see any reason to keep it, since it's non commercial use restriction automatically renders it worthless to those of us who are in need of this type of program anyway.

Just my humble opinion.

I believe the whole personal (or non-commercial) use issue is resolved by what's stated in the terms that you have to agree with during installation, i.e.:
"The registered user is granted a non-exclusive license to use Insofta Cover Commander on one computer at a time, for any legal purpose. The registered Insofta Cover Commander software may not be rented or leased."
Conclusion:
* Any legal purpose - yes
* Rent it or lease it - no

My third comment! :)

If you look beyond the surface of this nifty little app you may find other uses for it other than the obvious!

No need for boxshots, screenshots etc?

How about slideshows? Do you do them with your photos?

One of the first things I thought about for using this would be in my slideshow program ProShow Gold.

The screenshot option especially will allow me to use some new and different visual effects. If you have a portrait orientated image if you choose 'Fit Sizes To Side Image' your image will not be distorted.

And the boxshots...create a series of images showing the front, back and sides and make it spin for a 3D effect in sideshow software.

Granted these things can be done in Photoshop, but the main thing is that this app will save time and work!

#70: Totally agree with you. There are a LOT of freeware developers like you and I who will be able to benefit from this program: if not right now, then in the future.

To those who can't understand how this program could ever be used in a truly non-commercial context, I hope that answers you? We don't ALL write stuff to sell it, you know!

To everyone else who thinks that 'my design work,' 'my e-books,' etc. are non-commercial uses (!), my answer is: ONLY if you are making FREEWARE or FREE e-books! Doing free design work for anything which WILL be sold for money at some point IS a commercial use!

Installed on Vista with no problems. (Pay attention to the name and registration key when you first install it to get out of "trial version.")

Just want to address a few comments I see over and over...

"I don't need this!" - Then don't download it. I see a lot of programs on GAOTD that I don't need. That doesn't mean the software is a waste. Not everyone has use for what's being offered. So just skip it and come back tomorrow.

"Its too expensive!" - How is FREE too expensive? As far as the $69 regular price, most stand-alone ecover creators are anywhere from $60-90. The cheaper ones, around $30-40, are usually Photoshop scripts that require you to have Photoshop which is a $600 program.

"Requires another program" - Yeah, so? A lot of programs require you to have something else first. You need a graphics program. Doesn't mean you have to buy one. Use what came with your computer. Download GIMP.net for free. How can you expect to create something that uses images without having a graphics program?

"Resource intensive" - Definitely. It took up a lot of my resources, had to shut down some other programs while I used it.

"Personal use only" - Biggest drawback. I don't have much use for it that's non-commercial but its nice to have a full version I can try out and evaluate before I spend money on it for professional use.

Compared to Ecover Engineer which I also got from GAOTD, it does have nicer looking templates. The spiral notebook is more attractive, the CD and DVD covers have more options, and it has some templates the Ecover Engineer does not, like a membership card, manual, screenshots, etc.

I've tried the free ecover graphics generators out there and while they'll get the job done, they don't do as good of a job or produce as nice of a result as Ecover Engineer and Cover Commander do.

Thanks!

Nice product, excellent interface, comprehensive help file with carefully thought out 'wizard' for step by step assistance.

Pity about CD / DVD covers.

As to those querying the commercial useage clause, aw c'mon.

eBay is full of scam artists who steal Open Source freeware and then flog it to stupid buyers by pretending it is a commercial product. They can't provide a box so they use an "illustration of the box" in their listings then mail out a CD or DVD in a used envelope.

eBay is going to be pretty full of new 3D box designs and other snazzy artwork in scammers' listings soon.

Installed fine (vista home prem.)...
I don't get it. It made a pretty picture -- a CD cover -- but what do I do with the result?
The program does not have a print function, so I can't print a CD cover.
Am I supposed to just display the pretty picture?
Why?
If I can't print a CD cover to match the pretty picture, then the pretty picture is just a fabrication.
Could someone give me a hint as to what this program is good for?

I read the directions, followed them, copied and pasted "giveawayoftheday" and the serial number provided (this info is given in TWO places, no less), and the registration was quick and completely trouble-free. If you're having trouble, it's either a failure to follow the provided directions, or COMM problems with your internet / firewall.

As someone who develops freeware scenery for the MS Flight Simulator community, I definitely have a non-commercial use for this excellent little product: it will make my presentations look much more professional than otherwise possible. If I ever become a commercial scenery producer (unlikely), I would not hesitate to purchase this easy-to-use gem.

Why did A-squared's antivirus detect code injection from this at the end of the installation? Must be a lot of a-squared users here (it was a previous GAOTD), did no-one else get this warning?

I blocked the behaviour, and now I have something like 20 copies of CoverCommander.exe trying to run.
