My activation code finally arrived twelve hours after I initially requested the code -- and in my spam box. Despite not actually registering until this morning, everything worked well. Thanks!

Downloaded, installed and registered this without problem, then the offer for "Free lifetime upgrade and customer service" popped up. Read the reviews then figured at $6.99 this would be a good fit for me as my video editing needs are quite basic. Placed my order and have been fiddling with it for the last two hours. It also allows you to download more transitions and effects which was a nice surprise. Very nice simple program that is perfect for me.

IDENTICAL To Wondershare Video Editor v3.5

I have Wondershare Video Editor v3.5 installed on my PC. I paid $19.99. It is not a great video editor...but it gets the job done and it is easy & quick to use...therefore, I recommend this software.

Today's GOATD is identical the Wondershare Video Editor.
I would grab this GOATD asap.

This is a really nice program - very intuitive and effective. I joined together several segments of different videos in different formats and wrote the video to mp4 format without any glitches. It is the first video converter / editor that works for me without mistakes in translation. 5 thumbs up for this program.

Well, I installed the program. I've been looking for a good video editing program for some time. The last one I had that I liked was from Ulead. I installed this and filled out the form to have a serial emailed to me but it never showed up. I tried this multiple times. I would certainly have bought the program for the reduced price if I could have tried it and I'd liked it. This companies incompetence definitely cost them a sell.

@21 - I got the same thing. No CLOSE button! We're not fond of odd popup size GUIs but I think this is the first to come with no way short of Task Manager to close it! Maybe the button fell off? :))

Very nice, thank you GOTD. This is exactly what I needed. This product provides a simpler interface than my Adobe Premiere Elements 11 that crashes continually in windows 8.1. If you use premier there is no learning curve and even if you don't you can be up and editing videos in minutes. This little gem is a keeper.

Well, I made the mistake of downloading and installing the software BEFORE registering for the activation code. Now it is installed and I cannot get a code. I used two valid email addresses from Chrome and IE to no avail.

Hopefully, this is an isolated incident, BUT I recommend all get the code before installing the software.

#20 ziggy,

To exit, you have to open up the whole program by, for example, selecting Create New Movie, Widescreen. Then when the full GUI is displayed, left click the program icon in the upper left corner and you'll get an exit option (but first remember to go into Settings and turn off automatic updates, like others have suggested).

I think I have found an example of what #4 Adif called a “SOUND WAVE display”

Looking at help pages and screenshots the program seems to allow audio editing while the video is also displayed (that's a poor summary I know).

The program is titled AVS Video Editor v6.5, by AVS4you.com and while I was researching this reply I noticed that currently they have a whopping 70% OFF promotion on both their 1 Year & Unlimited(Lifetime) Licenses up until the end of January 2014.

BTW if You buy the AVS4you program it entitles the user to a License for ALL of the AVS programs which is about 16 in all,

Quote taken from top left of the AVS product page:

"AVS Video Editor 6.5

Trim, cut, split, merge, rotate, mix videos.
Apply effects and overlays, insert menus, audio,
texts and subtitles. Burn DVD/Blu-ray discs."

So this appears to answer some questions posted by other GoTD users today, however it does not edit surround sound, but then again not many programs do.

One of my friends used to edit 5.1 surround audio in video with Avid Liquid 7 and to the best of my memory they said it could be used with an optional break-out box that had a whole lot of video and audio connectors (like RCA sockets and that sort of stuff)

I think Liquid 7 has been superceded, but I can't contact my friend to ask what the new program is called and if it still edits surround audio 5.1

Will today's GOTD do "smart rendering"? When exporting a file in the same format as the input will it re-compress only the transitions and the few frames either side of a cut, or does every frame get recoded? That's a must for me. Didn't find any reference on the website.

I sometimes record tv shows on my computer via a tuner card. I installed today's program and tried it out. What I'm missing here is a multi-cut feature in order to cut out commercials from my shows. If this has one, I did not see it.

Will this do a Simple Clip from large video file??
I have a 2 disc set in VOB format I want o cut the individual song clips out of.
Will this let me do that?
And save in Same format, At Same resolution??

If Not, I don't need or want it.
Right now That is ALL I need in a video editor

You could take a look at Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate (an Avid Studio 2 derivative) for 5.1 sound editing. It's not free, but if in the US Newegg has a one day special today for $30.

I have tried to request a license number with 4 different email addresses several times each and I am still not getting any response even tho the dialog pops up and says the email has been sent after each try. It's been a couple of hours now, so if Aimersoft actually did send an email each time, they have had more than enough time to reach my accounts.

Please help me get a license number. Why am I not receiving an email with a license number?

Thanks!

In contrast to Wondershare this program installs hidden "helper" which tries to connect to Internet each system start up.
Why the standard video editor needs some hidden resident "helper" running all the time?

Of course you can add your own text. Choose the "intro", go to the text track. Right click "edit", then you can choose the text style. The edit window is on the left side direct above the head "Aimersoft
Video Editor" - This is the default text to change. Have fun!

For those with audio-manipulation questions: AFAICT at least two individual track levels can be set as follows:

(1) right-click main media and select DETACH AUDIO -- track will appear as a timeline item

(2) import/add secondary audio track

(3) click/select each track to set volume levels in main editor pane

For a product like this, I would expect to see a few sample videos which were produced using this software on the vendor's website. I couldn't find any. Why is it so hard? It is not possible to try every product that is offered by GAOTD every day. The vendor must provide as much info as possible.
OR is there a website where sample videos are available?
Thanks.

Have not tried it yet, but make sure folks to go to settings and uncheck the automatic updates, so you do not lose the program in case it reverts itself to the trial version.

#6 (JSinOZ):

Back in the day, when non-linear editors were in their infancy, you would have asked a good question with, "Does it do exact frame by frame editing?"

It was because GOP (Group of Pictures) format editing, such as MPEG-2, wasn't frame-accurate without first some sort of format conversion.

That is, until a method was found to overcome that limitation, which now works very well, and has for a couple of decades.

Before that time, some editors performed that conversion internally, while others required users to convert their GOP formatted media before they were imported.

I've been editing video professionally since 1986, and I'm not aware of any current editors that still have that limitation. I'm not saying I know EVERY editor that's known to mankind. What I am saying is I can't imagine that limitation still needing to be questioned these days.

That said, I very much enjoy toying with unfamiliar editing interfaces -- even home versions -- just to figure out the thinking that goes into the workflow. Whether this is a good editor or not -- I don't know yet...but I'll have fun just playing around with it!

Considering all the variety of effects in this program you would think that audio manipulation would be included, the fact that it isn't is somewhat limiting.
A free program that will allow the manipulation of the audio is the following video editor Avidemux 2.6, it doesn't work on every type of modern file but enough to make it useful.
It is available at the following link in both 32 and 64-bit:-
http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/download.html

On the videos it supports its a first rate program and well worth the download for anyone interested in video editing.

quick update: sorry I was a bit in limbo about the extra download and here. It is the same program the both.

The program has a small download button on top left where you can / should download the resources Effects etc.

It's a rather intuitive and easy to use program. You also can detach the audio track of a video via right mouse click context menu. A lot of Effects and Transition Effects etc. and an Audio Effect library that comes with the software.

Video conversion is probably not the fastest, but very good quality.

Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1 Pro 64 Bit system.

Since years I work with a paid video editing software. I don't think, that it makes much sense, to have several video editors on the system. But I was interested...

A fast loading modern user interface asks beforehand, if you would like to make a widescreen 16:9 or a 4:3 classic tv mode video. Choosing the screen offset you start loading your video...

Beforehand you should download and install the additional PIP, transition and effects, which are offered for free. There are enough templates to choose, not only for the beginner. The more experienced you are, the less you use multiple effects or hundreeds of transitions between the scenes.

A good addition are the ready made "intro" or "credits" templates, which can be easily edited. To be fair - we speak of a cheap and today free software - ; These special templates are not very professional. But for the normal family movie sufficient.

The program is easy to use. A good addition are power-tools like adding "tild-shift" to a scene, e.g. for highlighting special things or "mosaic" for e.g. masking a face or a scene, which should not be recognized in detail.

It is faster to use, than my professional video program, the results are remarkable with a variable output. Rendering is fast and of course depending on the computer power.

If you don't use a video editing software and want have something for the family videos and your home cinema, this is a good and reliable software. Start with this! It is not for the advanced producer. You don't haven even "options" to choose and modify the program behavior.

Will stay as a fast video editor on my computer.

Thanks Aimersoft and GOATD
