Does your utility repair corrupt PST file on Mac OS also because one professional tool named as Remo Repair for Outlook can repair corrupt PST file on Mac OS.

Key features of the software almost cover all requirements of data recovery. Hopefully it becomes no 1 data recovery software in future.

Thanks for the information about other products. Unfortunately, during the recovery process entire process is getting terminated and showing error messages. To conquer such situation, employ Remo Recover software to recover deleted or lost data.

I am very much fascinated with the features of your software. But one thing I want to know, does your software supports recovery of RAW images from all types of memory cards. I know one tool- Remo Recover, which has the capacity to retrieve all types of photo formats from diverse memory card.

alright, I'm out here again. ran a scan with the older version and it scanned the files on a messed up partition 1 T bite drive just fine (was in a .raw file state) so have installed the newer version. it looks like although a pain to operate with a screen reader, it can be done.

I had a bit of trouble tripping the register button on the new version and getting that aspect to take hold, if you would use regular menu's and/or a app's key menu and opaque the background of the window things would probably be much easier used by the blind community (and from some of the comments made by friends and folks out here, in the sighted community as well). after two tries I got it registered, and I will be running a scan of my goofed drive and attempting recovery with this new version tomorrow! I apparently didn't manage to get the older version to register (V 2.1) so have to redo the scan and try recovery with the new one (2.3. .

Just as a matter of interest: I recently took the plunge, and began the laborious process of switching over to Windows 7. Hedging my bets, I set up four removable HHD drive trays and a SSD which contains the W7 OS. One of the HHDs contains my old and still functioning XP pro installation, while the other two are 1 TB Seagates - one new, the other a few years old and containing about 750 MB of data. I ran the new W7 SSD installation, with the two 1TB discs connected, and the old XP HHD disconnected. Everything worked well, and being the small hours, I switched off, hit the sack. Next day, I disconnected the W7 SSD, and booted from the XP HHD; no problems - until I tried to read the two big Seagates, and received an "error, the drive needs formatting". The new drive would not even be recognized - despite having been formatted under W7.
In panic, I downloaded several "free" and one or two genuine free recovery programs. Most of these, found about 9GB of data on one 33GB partition - despite the fact that the disc in question contained 4 partitions and as mentioned above - about 750MB of data.
Fortunately, my panic didn't extend to complying with XP's request to reformat the drive. After a few hours of experts' forum interrogation, I finally came upon a Guru who said that W7 has it's own unique MBR protocol, that effectively makes other Windows discs unreadable to all but it's parent - W7. Sadly, as the penny dropped, and I swiftly recovered from my panic attack, I neglected to bookmark this priceless gem. While all this might be basic and 'old hat' to the experts here, I thought that I might relate this experience to assist anyone else who might get shaken up by Microsoft's change of essential PC hard drive parameters.

Spinrite - when it first came out I was very suspicious of Gibson's claim, even after understanding how his program is recovering bad blocks.I have used spinrite with success, however not to the point where it lives up to the hype, it has recovered bad blocks just not all of them and as you and others who've tried it know it takes forever to run it. I used to use it more as a preventative diagnostic program and ran it every six months on the weekend I think it was test #3 so it would finish sometime around Monday morning, if there was a problem I would run it again the next weekend with test #5(I think it was #5 the most comprehensive recovery mode). Since then I've come to the conclusion it's a very good program just not as good as he hypes it, I've stopped using spinrite on a regular basis about 5-6 years ago. Recovery programs that work for me is what I use now since I don't think all that extra time using spinrite is worth it.

As for everyone complaining about freeware, isn't that the point of GOTD to test out paid programs for free? As for the alternative lists, I do appreciate someone else doing the search, testing, evaluation and comparison so I can make an informed decision on which one to try and test for myself. How else can someone who wants to try and have no idea what a particular program and their competitors should really do and perform.

BTW I agree with those that have a problem with 1 year license, especially for a program like this, once you've tested the program and gotten used to how it works then when you need it your license is most likely expired. I'd rather put up with a freeware program and put it thru it's paces so when I do need it it's there with no hassles. Otherwise while I don't care for limited licenses I can live with only 1 year usage.

Time limited programs are OK, when done right. Not long ago a surprisingly powerful and stable photo cataloguing program Daminion was offered here with one year of guaranteed unlimited upgrades. I have just updated it from 2.0 to 2.5 and it is getting better and better. Plus the key, that lets you reinstall or install to another computer. And excellent technical support. That was a really nice giveaway.

http://www.freedomscientific.com
i can find and use the controls for the main functions, and it found my gone bad external drive a 1 Tb hatachi that has gone to a .raw status

i am running a recovery on it now, and if it fails I'll try the newer version and let you all know the results.

I for one love the "list" comments especially Giovanni's. I have found them to be very useful and educational.

By being critical (not to mention condecending)of the "lists people," you are doing the very thing you are complaining of.

If you don't like the "lists" then just don't read them.

But surely the whole point of the GOTD is that it is, for this one day, free of charge (no 29)? It may or may not be better than some of the alternatives people suggest, but at least you don't have to pay for it. I've had some good software from here, and some rubbish stuff, and I don't download it very often. The lists of freeware alternatives are very useful if you miss a giveaway of something you might have wanted if you'd seen it in time.

I will not be downloading today's, though - a one year license on a data recovery programme is a bit disingenuous.....

#27 Mark Wright...

I was in 1999 where you are now... Me too got impressed by Steve Gibson's SpinRite. Sounds awe amazing, right??

I let it scan drivers for weeks on end... If it could finish, what did I salvage? Nothing.

SpinRite is almost Trolling on an überlevel.

Also see this page: http://allthatiswrong.wordpress.com/2009/10/11/steve-gibson-is-a-fraud/, it will lead to a quick rundown here: https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!original/comp.dcom.xdsl/Vm2xVSu6prk/jpfCIyPj7poJ .

I personally have never looked back - bye bye!

BUT you do bring up an excellent point - bad blocks!
Most programs will not handle them correctly. I should have included information / experiences on how bad blocks were handled, but ideally it would try to read 2 or 3 times and when failing, continue to the next block. Safe whatever data was read and pray :)

#31 Richu
You old-school too, huh? I agree: I want to see a folder structure in the recovery process. Something more preferably than 'FOLDER1349857'. In practice, software that does this has become rare... There are titles that still work this way, but that are not always better (or even good!). I should have included more information about this, but... Time and detailed experience are lacking

:Peace,

devnullius

PS: I do have to admit I'm still curious if anyone has actually used SpinRite with good success?

I NEVER download those, they're pointless for me.

And offering them only encourages that business model.

Define: free frē
1. not under the control or in the power of another; able to act or be done as one wishes.
2. not physically restrained, obstructed, or fixed; unimpeded.

synonyms: unimpeded, unobstructed, unrestricted, unhampered, clear, open, unblocked
------------------------------
Time limited things are NOT [truly] free. Trying to sell programs in an overcrowded [truly free] field is not a good business model unless your program has some exceptional features.
------------------------------
#16 Please do a google search on "file recovery". You'll find many companies that can do that.

#5: why in the world would you PAY for something you can get for FREE that does the very same thing?????? I will say that there are SOME software tools that IF I really really like them, I WILL PURCHASE THEM, if they are at a reasonable price. Mezzmo is one of them. I love that software for my Smart devices to connect to my PC.
I HAVE HAD IT FOR 2 YEARS AND RAVE ABOUT IT. ALL UPGRADES ARE FREE, TOO.

THIS is why commentators list freebies that do the same thing. However, sometimes a person may want to TRY A NEW PRODUCT and this site gives them that opportunity. I have done that, but mostly, a lot of tools offered here have free alternatives that are really much better than the paid versions. I like GAOTD, but sometimes they just offer some really generic, bland, UNextraordinary and awful software tools. And, they are always the same. GAOTD should go to CNET, ZNET, or those sites and browse the $$software and then ask them to offer them here for 1 day with possibility to purchase at a discount later. I do not know if they do that, but THEY SHOULD. GAOTD software lately has just been awful and bland.

I always go to freewarefiles.com to get my free awesome software!

Almost all recovery programs recover data logically (ie, at a software level such as deleted files, formatted, partition). I'm looking for the rare prigram that recovers data physically (ie, at a hardware level such as data in bad sectors on the drive). I've recently tried SpinRite, which does that, but can't (in it's current version) be run on selected, existing files, and it would take 20 days for me to run it across an entire 1TB external USB 2.0 drive. The description of today's program includes "damaged or formatted hard drive". To me, damaged normally implies a drive with bad sectors. However, I'm not sure if this program can sometimes recover data from bad sectors, or just recover data from the remaining good sectors from a damaged drive. I may download this to try, but since I've already shipped the external drive back under warranty, I have nothing to currently test it on for bad sector recovery.

re: "free alternmatives". While I have downloaded – and use many give-aways, I’m embarrassed to say that I usually get more good from the free alternatives listed here than the program we are reviewing.

However, the GOTD team apparently doesn’t object or the moderator wouldn’t publish them.

Free alternatives also help to educate the developer who’s program is being reviewed, about availability within the market he/she is competing in, and what users are looking for. So free alternatives help everybody and make this a very popular and useful website. BTW: I didn't examine today's give-away :(

My husband wiped out his sd card right before Thanksgiving. We tried every program we could find. free and paid. We even tried the last recovery software offered from GAOTD. The only one that worked...THE ONLY ONE....was iCare.

**It did not properly restore videos, only pictures. Videos were restored nut heavily damaged and not playable with any program, including VLC.

We must have tried over 30 different ones.

The ONLY way to avoid the listing of FREE alternitives is to post software that either:
1. Is so innovative, it leaves those who post FREE software in awe.
2. Does not add to the dozens of packages that are out there (free) and does the job better if not way better.
3. G, XP man, Mike, etc.. all take a vacation together where these no internet ;-)

Thanks GOTO for your hard work in bringing us these programs and to the developers who put up with the rant that you get sometimes.

And thanks to the before mentioned crew who take the time to share their wisdom and experience. I'm sure those who do not appreciate the time needed to evaluate and post free software may someday figure out a way to thank you. :-)

And yes, I'm going to download this software but I'm halfway through my DVD conversions so I can't really test it yet.

If you've done a drive wipe NO software is ever going to be able to recover anything but file sections. If you've never done a drive wipe-cleanup you have a VERY slow congested PC. Besides, if you can't recover a file or prog's dll it's iffy that it will be worth recovering at all.

"In many cases, the program fails to display document and image content preview. File sizes must not exceed 80MB for previewing purposes. "Deleted Recovery" is not particularly reliable when it comes to recreating the original folder structure for lost files. Results concerning data recovery after a normal format are disappointing.

In conclusion, 7-Data Recovery Suite needs to step up its game when it comes to advanced data recovery methods. Nevertheless, users may resort to it when it comes to common file loss scenarios, such as accidental deletion or quick formats."

I run the program under Video media. the Program is running, doing its job As I type it has found 250 files of the 64gb card. do I say more. no that I am happy, it is recovering. but I love to see it fix a corrupted video if that was what it said to do, but I know I read it wrong. For those people with no experience in data recovery, no program on the planet can recover data on a modern disk drive after the data has been overwritten. That is why wiping a drive securely deletes data. If you need data recovered (except for undelete), turn your computer off immediately and scan the hard drive from another computer.

I have no idea how well this program works. I use R-Studio because I have much better results with it than any free program.

In answer to Stewart and RRR (#5 & 6):

I really appreciate the people who take the time to give a list of free alternatives to the software proposed on GOTD. It doesn't take away from the value of GOTD, but adds to it. Everyone's needs are different, and these suggestions give us more choices, and that's a good thing.

And there are also comments by people who have downloaded and tried the software. I always read them before deciding whether to download anything that looks interesting to me. Their contribution is precious too.

A big thanks to all of you, and to GOTD.

Welcome aboard #2, Ghenghis McCann!

Ok, an overview of the "free" programs everybody keeps mentioning - including Giovanni ;p

These tools mostly are NOT free, but DEMO or LIMITED in amount of data. That will not do: it's all or nothing for me to be free.

Not fully free and does not save ANY data (only preview):
- http://www.krollontrack.com/data-recovery/recovery-software/windows/enterprise-trial/
- http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/DiskGetor-Data-Recovery.shtml
- http://www.stellarinfo.com/
- http://www.4cardrecovery.com/ (I nor Google have ANY idea what the free version can do; for me, it only opens IE man page. But they DO have payed versions... So off my list ;p)

Not fully free are and limited in amount of data to recover:
- http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/free-data-recovery-software.htm (2GB, but http://www.easeus.com/data-recovery-software/ implies full recovery when Windows still boots...)
- http://www.icare-recovery.com/data-recovery-software.html (10 files)
- http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/ (MiniTool - 1GB)

Truly free, no commercial version available (at most donation):
- http://www.cgsecurity.org/ (TestDisk + PhotoRec)
- also see next list where Tim Fisher "... didn't include file recovery programs that are shareware/free trials, nor ones that won't undelete reasonably sized files."

This excellent article by Tim at about.com: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.01.htm

Tim even gives you advice on when to use a specific program and when not. I like it. Author promises they are all full versions... Or at least, not limited to preview or only small amount of files. My info sometimes contradict his insights. I chose the ones we both agree on:
- http://www.glarysoft.com/glary-undelete/
- http://www.pandorarecovery.com/features/ (Looks impressive!)
- http://www3.telus.net/mikebike/RESTORATION.html (Brian Kato - anyone??)
- http://www.adrc.com/software/data_recovery_tools/
- http://www.oemailrecovery.com/cd_recovery.html (should do HDD too?)
- http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/dr.html ("I don't think so, Tim" ;p)
- http://www.pcinspector.de/Default.htm?language=1 (File Recovery 4.x)
- http://www.pcinspector.de/SmartRecovery/info.htm?language=1 (for memory cards)

!! Also take a look at this wiki, from Giovanni :)
http://shodanproductions.com/wiki/index.php?title=Free_data_recovery

Giovanni gives us these extra programs, also truly free (and again; I differ on opinion with Giovanni of what is 'true' free;)
- http://www.ylcomputing.com/content/view/350/153 (WinUtilities Undelete 3.1)
- http://www.roadkil.net/program.php/P29 (Unstoppable Copier - robocopy alternative)
- http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/Abyssal-Recovery.shtml (CD/DVD only; product abandoned by development)
- http://www.isobuster.com/license-models.php (CD/DVD/BlueRay - mixed features; but when your format is supported, it is fully supported. Check the chart first)

And also from Giovanni (thx!), fully free when it comes to restoring PARTITIONS - ignore file recovery:
- http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/ (MiniTool Power Data Recovery Free)
- http://www.easeus.com/partition-recovery/ (EaseUS Partition Recovery)

So, all in all, a nice list.

And for todays Giveaway... We HATE data recovery licenses that are time-limited. You are the only one who does this. I do not think you are powerful enough to change the market in this respect...

Just in case, I'll post some other giveaways (and their downloads), here: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,8555

Thank you all for this final 2013 round-up for truly free full featured data recovery software titles! Let 2014 Gremlins come...

It seems that #5 #6 does NOT understand, that alternatives a a comment to the existing.
It is a pitty indeed, that there is NO comparism.
AND. Even if something is given away for free, i look a free horse in it´s mouth at all.
So if something free is doing its "job" why should i get a paid same?
And why should i get a free thing that is for sure dead after a bit longer than magazine "test" period?

I for one am highly appreciative of the lists of free alternatives.
For Giovanni and Ashraf and anyone else assisting on this, please keep this up.
I very seldom comment, but I am probably one of numerous followers of good software that appreciate your excellent input.
I am also happy to try new giveaways, but unless there is something really exciting or extra on the giveaway, vs. other free alternatives, there is no point in wasting my time trying them.
The yearly charge on a data recovery programme is in my mind totally unwarranted and makes no sense to me.

I won't be installing this because I am not generally interested in a one year license. I come here for a giveaway that will last as long as my current PC OS installation lasts. If I want it beyond that time, I accept that I must pay.
A one year license is really an extended trial period. Such a thing has a place, but GOTD is not that place (in my opinion).

For me it is always great to have the freedom to compare programs in the same field, the reason being that everyone has different preferences. Some programs seem to work better on my desktop than they do on my laptop, regardless of the O/S.
Freebies from any direction are always gratefully received. And, yes, I do buy programs too if they suit my needs.
Personally, if I have tried the offered free program and it is not satisfactory then I have tried one from the "lists" you deride, until I find something that works the way I want it to.
One other point...
I for one have learnt a LOT from the "lists" by reading their reviews.
Giovanni has unknowingly assisted me on several occasions and quite honestly I am very glad for his comments and "other free offers".

I see other posters feel as I do: If I want to look for freeware, I use a search engine.

The comment section should be reserved for comments on the GOTD and not be used as a bulletin board for free software.

Maybe the posters of the freeware should curb their need to show off. If you are not able to provide useful comments about the GOTD, please don't clutter the board with freeware.

If you want to have a site about freeware, I suggest you start your own site.

Thanks GOTD for you offers and effort.

Indeed Stewart(#5), and the comments I think I'll just ignore from now on. After all, as with the world at large: everyone is a critic, seemingly, even when given something for free. Pathetic....

It appears that 'comments' are becoming more and more lists free alternatives and less and less about the GOTD offerings.

Free card recovery software http://www.4cardrecovery.com

free programs that restore data
http://www.piriform.com/recuva old free but recently has paid editions too.

http://www.cgsecurity.org TestDisk is dos command not user friendly.

Other paid programs:
Icare http://www.icare-recovery.com
easeus http://www.easeus.com
powerdata http://www.powerdatarecovery.com

Recover my files http://www.recovermyfiles.com

For one case, different programs have different scanning and recovery ability.

And most time, you won't be able to restore 100% of lost data if there are huge data like 200GB including video files.

Some times, those program would restore fragments or part of your files.

Why? This is data recovery, no program can restore 100% of what's lost.

What can we do, try the best to try programs to find whether it could restore deleted files.

Good point, those programs offers recovery preview.

What I recommend, use free program before any purchase.

'NOTE: this software includes 1 year license.' I know that the yearly subscription method of charging for software seems to be getting more and more popular, but does it make sense for a data recovery program. Unless you're very unlucky, or very careless, it's not something you're going to use every day. It's going to sit there on your computer ready for when disaster strikes. What happens when you need to recover some deleted files and find that the license for the program has expired? You're going to call the developers some very rude names, and probably vow that you'll never use any of their software ever again.

And on the developer's homepage they have this quote '“I work in the IT industry and this powerful piece of software is unlike anything I’ve ever seen."
-George Papas, New Jersey, USA'
Try visiting GOTD, George, data recovery software is given away here quite regularly.
