Downloaded and installed no problem. There's alignment issues with the text when the program opens. But worst of all, I began having windows popup to various sites offering various products / services for purchase.

I spent two days running EVERY virus scan and malware program I could get my hands on with nothing showing up but the popups continuing.

I uninstalled this program as it was the ONLY download in the last two weeks and the popups stopped IMMEDIATELY!!!!

Cannot tell you how irritating it is to have received this type of spam from a program on the GOTD site.

It was going well. Registered ok. I like their templates that I could download from their site, and started building my Flash site... then it suddenly said I'm in demo mode, and the registration field has gone blank! It won't accept the key as it's out of date. I can't use it in full mode anymore!!!!

Wow! Thought I'd stop by and see if this thing ever got corrected. Judging from the posts after it was said to be corrected, it appears not, or not fully anyways. What a mess! I think I will pass on further experientation with this product for now anyways!

@36 - No, sorry, I followed the directions precisely. I don't have any problems following directions. I doubt if this many people are unable to follow directions so your comment doesn't hold up. Thanks for sharing though!

@24 - I am in US and have things set for US not British set up. I did however also attempt to feed it a date that would be a technically valid date by changing computer's clock to 3/9/08. I figured it would then at least tell me it was the wrong date for giveaway but NOOOO - It STILL said the "not a valid date" message.

@129 - I believe you are right in that and I think you only get like 4 or 5 changes - EVER. I didn't want to take a chance on that so I didn't try the region change fix.

Sadly it seems todays giveway came from a software publisher who maybe wanted to APPEAR to be giving away something of value. Maybe they were foolish enough to think that people would consider their product so hot, so nifty, that they would then come in droves later on to buy this magnificent software. I think (and hope!) it completely backfired on them and I am glad to see people saying they'd never purchase this company's products now.

BTW, This bit with the 5 template licenses is ridiculous! Templates for this sort of thing are a dime a dozen out there. I see nothing to make me think that their templates are just so amazing that people would flock to buy more after being given a supposedly full program as a giveaway. I say supposedly because if a registered (paid) user gets access to a library of files or templates or whatever, then if a company is putting their merchandise on GOTD, they need to replicate the ACTUAL experience of being a paid user - minus of course the built in GOTD caveats like no free tech support and such. Okay, theres my $19.12 cents worth for today.

I downloaded after 9:00 am CDST so the registration issue was already resolved.

New build of Show.kit was released at GAOTD. Problem with registration was fixed. Now you receive lifetime license for 5 templates without time limits.

I installed flawlessly on several computers running ME and XP as well as 2 older 333mhz laptops running XP Pro SP3 and all with no problems.

Yeah I just changed it to the Brussels/Copenhagen/Madrid/Paris time zone on Vista and it worked. It looks awesome.

For all, there is a problem with registring this but I got solution:
unpack all,run activate,run setup(after activation and copy key to note),run program - then You got massage "is not valid date...",close program,run again activation, run program from your programs. It works for me,I hope it will for You

Downloaded and installed the new version. Installed with no error messages(finaly). Registered OK. Worked only in demo mode until I done a reset of my PC (shuting down and restarting the program doesn't take it out of demo mode). Time to give it a try to see if it actually works.

I found the same as most above - unable to register. I uninstalled and waited for the new re-release. I do hope this one is offered again when the kinks are worked out. Thank you GAOTD for all the great give always Merry Christmas to all the GAOTD team!!

What 369-day limitation?

(re: my comment #169) I forgot to mention one other thing: The registration information in my About Screen doesn't mention anything about a 369-day limitation---or any other limitation for that matter. I don't know why others are having this problem; maybe the company already fixed it??

what the hell kind of software is this? I only installed the updated version and what I get is a very small box with appropriate choices except for no toolbar or taskbar--i.e., no close, minimize, maximize buttons, NO HELP BUTTON, AND NO ACCESS TO WHERE YOU REGISTER, ETC. I am running XP pro sp3 with a lot of GOTD and other software (about 100 or so) with plenty of space on my C drive and ample RAM, fast CPU, etc. Has anybody else run into this problem, and if so, I would like to know how to fix it so I can put this software to use if possible. My first instinct is that this is an installation problem, but when I reinstalled on top of the first install, it did not help anything. I did not change the time, etc., as I did not get any error messages.

WOW! I like it!

First, I was able to install and register ShowKit without any problems whatsoever (XP SP3). I did use the name GiveawayOfTheDay (with capitalization as shown, per the readme.txt file -- duh!). I even installed it to a non-C: volume --- no problems anywhere. Then I tried putzing with it without even reading the documentation. It turned out to be straightforward to use, although at one point, I did break down and go to the company's website and downloaded the HTML set of help pages. (They were less helpful than I had hoped, but they sufficed.)

Second, I was able to download and use every single template/skin from their website (see #7), including the Flash Intros, the Flash Website Templates, and the Flash Preloaders. All installed and worked without problems. Unfortunately, I found that none of the Clip Art and only the Demo sounds were downloadable, but the sounds I was allowed to download installed and worked fine in my projects. The loss of the Clip Art didn't bother me too much, as I have many ClipArt CDs already. I also have many sound files, but there were some nice looking Techno and Industrial sounds on the site I'd have liked to get but couldn't (no login account comes with this Giveaway. [Sigh]). Regardless, it is easy to use your own ClipArt and Sound assets with ShowKit. The plugins also downloaded and installed without problems, although I opted out of installing the CD Burner plugin.

Thus I'm not sure what all the comments above are about that state that we are limited to 5 and only 5 templates --- we are not! This was such good news (at least to me) after reading those other comments that I felt compelled to add my 2-cents here giving the good news.

Notes:

1. You have to manually download the extra templates from the company's site; you cannot use the program's built-in "Download More Templates" feature, since that requires a login account and password (which, again, we don't get with this offering).

2. If you the error message stating that you are "now in Demo Mode", something went wrong with the registration process somewhere. The program crashed on me one time but restarted fine. The project I had built continued working, but any of the new templates wouldn't completely work, as the first two pages had become locked. This was very confusing. But when I pulled down the registration option under the Help Menu, I noticed that I had somehow become unregistered. I simply reentered the name and key, completed the registration process, and everything was back to full working status.

3. Concerning the ShowKit logo problem cited in comment #41, I don't have this problem. I think it is solved simply by ensuring you edit all the assets in both the Global Elements and on each page to replace them. I least I hope that fixes what Ngjq is having trouble with. Also, the Preferences can be set to not load the default images (ShowKit or otherwise) when you create a new project. That might also prove useful.

4. The program is really very easy to learn to use. You really don't even have to read (much) of the manual!

update , i just tried it again and got "unable to decypt key " error , sorry , well tested , plonk . Now to wait for the real software .

I had a bit of problem getting it registered, but it was because I downloaded twice, and the key provided on the one file didn't match the other. I uninstalled, started over, and everything worked. Of course, none of you idiots who start off by whining would bother to try anything other than just posting your cry-baby BS after five seconds of effort.

Next - I don't know what you could possibly whine about or question - this is pretty good software, with a TON of freebies you can grab after you get it installed. Even if you never use the application itself - ever - to create something in Flash... the clip-art etc alone is worth the trip and time to download it.

I own a full licensed copy of "Real" Flash and a lot of expensive utilities surrounding Flash, so I probably wouldn't purchase this if it weren't free... but I'll tell you what... it seems to be capable of a big chunk of Adobe/Macromedia Flash for a fraction of the price. I can't speak to all you idiots spurting "outdated...blah blah blah" rubbish.. because I don't see it. This is $80 at retail, Adobe Flash starts at $500+. And as far as "who builds sites in Flash blah blah blah -- are you F'ING KIDDING ME ? How 'bout Salesforce.com, NASDAQ, and DirecTV to name just 3 of the MILLIONS of flash-based APPLICATIONS running on the web. Or maybe the OLYMPICS site... which used a combination of MS Silverlight and Adobe FLASH? Point is, as usual you don't know what the F you're talking about, and so your posts here are worthless noise, helpful to NOBODY. Flash is the basis of the streaming web. It's the platform of the future, like it or not.. THAT's just a FACT, JACK.

Finally - the website... instead of whining over a broken link, why don't you go to the mnfct's base website at http://www.eltima.com/ - you'll see that the company is alive and well and the site works fine (albiet with less-than-perfect English translation, which should not offend any of you since 90% of the comments here are illiterate.

I would not waste my time to redownload , its costing bandwidth for those has download caps , this was and is a waste , i have it and i will try it again for the 10th time and if the key doesnt decrypt , then its "plonk" in the non recycle bin .

For anyone with date errors, you have to change your regional options to north american.

I am using vista home prem 64bit. Loaded ok and followed register instructions. I am located in USA and had no problems. Navigation around sftwr is kind of sketchy. did download templates for websites and most look nice. trying to open a template is troublesome to figure out as downloads are .sks files and sofwr is looking for skf. files. did find out to add templates into the bottom left and open them from there. Editing is pretty easy. have not tried to upload yet-will experiment later. can anyone tell me if i can import macromedia flash work files and edit them with this software? Thanks

The software installed just fine. It seems to work well and has a simple user interface. But, there doesn't seem to be any way to save the file as a .fla file so it could be edited in flash or output as an swf file if I wanted to do that. Having these options would be very useful. One could make the main site using Show-Kit and make small additional changes in flash if desired.

There is many templates that ARE editable so try it out for yourself. I am so to speak and in my opinion this is worth buying for which I just may do.

Notice on the http://www.softinfinity.com/ site they have a miriad of applications, even for developers.

I knew Eltima Software was a good, well-known company, but apparently they screwed up the code by altering the executable making it a Give Away Of The Day version.

They also have totally free Shockwave also Flash Player available for download. It actually directs you to http://www.download.com.

It's more advanced that Macromedia's simple Projector Player.

By the way, the fix I suggested didn't work on my XP machine, but I have one more idea before I give up....I need food and sleep!!

I ended up trying this install just to see for myself what it would do. It launches the demo screen then quickly closes it and opens the window to create new or open project etc, but nowhere does it give anyplace at all to input the registration name and license number!

Instead of expecting people to change their systems etc, it seems much more logical if the developer would simply allow name and license number to be input and then process registration like the majority of developers do.

Sorry if this was posted previously but it's difficult to go through all 168 posts to locate the answer.

If people are still having problem registering, I think I've found an easy answer.

Open Show.kit and just change the Project name to anything you prefer, then choose Project > Save As and make sure it goes to the C:\Program Files\Show.kit 2.1\Published folder and give it a name and BE SURE to add the extension .skf.

Now open it back up and enter the registration key. This took care of the problem immediately.

And by the way, you can install to a drive other than C:. I install all my third party software to the E:\Program Files directory.

These recent messages here are so big whining that i haven't seen for ages... not even here! When i have followed the readme.txt instructions carefully (windows xp sp3, location: finland(EU) ) and installed and registered the software accordingly, not a single problem.

The software is working perfectly, as well as registration process. And to those, who are whining about not able to log in for more templates, has somebody promised that? The offer was: 5 templates, free license. And they kept their promise.

The reworked install package installed fine on my Windows XP SP2 machine. Thank you Eltima for the fix. Look forward to exploring the program. Fubar thanks also for all the work looking up information useful and necessary to users of the software!

There are more than 5 templates. You need to download and save from http://extras.show-kit.com/templates.php and save on your computer. Then select "Template, Open Template" and locate the template that you downloaded. For some reason I was unable to use the download more templates icon. Got error connection message. But downloading and saving works.

More antiquated rubbish? I can't speak for anyone else but maybe it's time for the folks that run this site to pay more attention to their visitors. Especially the long time regulars. Read the comments for cripe sakes! This is no more then old. outdated, troublesome, waste of time.

Maybe they should pay the people who's greed for anything they can get free for the wasted time & the time it takes to fix their PC's from the damage things like this cause. No, not give away but the publishers of such rubbish are the ones who should pay! Just in case you haven't heard, it's 2008, soon to be 2009. Some new stuff would be nice for a change.

I got the same thing you did. What worked for me was entering GiveawayOfTheDay with the capitol letters just like they show in the read me file along with the registration code.

I tried all of the above. Waited until the next day tried again, still says 19.12.2008 invalid date but today is 20th (Australia). Uninstalled the program tried reinstalling, now getting "The Key cannot be decrypted" error. Now I can't install it at all.

I tried to install to a non-standard E:/ drive, but to no avail.

It's 1:45 PM Mountain time on a Friday, so I really doubt that anything will happen in Germany to fix this. :-(

I typically check GTOTD each day and have really been impressed with some of the software, there is some that I use every day, and some that I've bought for updates from using from this site.

Lately, though, the quality of the offerings has seemed to be a little off from the previous year. I hope it returns to what it was.

As to this "Show.kit" I haven't a clue to whether it's worth it or not. It won't install.

Try customizing your date setting in control panel -> regional and lanquage options -> Custumize -> Date.. set date to DD/MM/YYYY and seperator to .
This work .. once your done you can set it back to the way you are use to...

I have xp sp3 Norwegian edition.
I've changed to German (Tyskland in norwegian) and tried all different short time format, still it won't accept my registration because of wrong date. Also tried the new file.

Try to close the program, then chance the time to german time, then open the program choise new flash or html website, choise a template(site ex FL17)(to do that do: press on FL17 and then press choise this template), then go to help and choose: Enter registration code, then Paste the code you have togetter with the setup program. Then press ok an restart only the program, chek if it registrered to Giveawayoftheday and unlimited time(you find it in help and then coose about), close the program . Chance your time back again!This works with my computer in Denmark

To change the time to german time: press start choose controlpanel, then doubleclik on time and zone, choose timezone and find Berlin, press use and ok. To chance it back again you do the same agin but enter your local time instead.

I have uninstalled my old version completely and then installed an updated version...

Before that, I changed ALL my settings (regional settings and date+time) to GERMAN.

STILL doesn't work... pogram driving me nuts...

Tried latest download and it still gave error message "only valid for the day of promo". I don't want to deal with this nonsense. If s/w publisher wants to give away the s/w, give in good faith and do not dance around people's trial and error beta testing. Will never try any s/w from this company ever again when there are so many choices out there. Steaming...

Sorry, I usually install or ignore the Daily offering. This one tells me the code given is / was for another day.

I have to give it a thumbs down and raise the thumbs down percentage...even though it was interesting... I must. I have to. Can't help it. Watch me... here goes...

After installing, un-installing, re-downloading, re-installing, changing the Region Settings, un-installing, re-downloading, re-installing (which was rediculous), I finally got a registered copy that doesn't expire in a year with 6 templates, 5 'owned' and one default that still works only in DEMO mode -- which the program seems to default to. After numerous 'round-about' open and closes, I can open one of the 'owned' templates and change the text, background, and music. That's it. So much for 'creating' a website. Any number of other creative programs that will convert the output to a .swf outclass this by a mile. I'm just sorry I wasted 9 hours (half of which I should have been sleeping) to figure this out.

GAOTD, I was patient, diligent, and persistent... for ultimately a major disappointment. Your posting this without verifying the accuracy of correct registration again lessens your credibility. As for the company offering the product... I'm afraid your reputation is shot with the majority who went through this fiasco today.

What a nice program and what a shame, it is not possible to register it(not possible to transformate it from demo version to a full product, with the registration key). It says the same as #141:“Unfortunately, free promotional code is only valid for the date of promotion, and cannot be used to register the software on other dates. Please, purchase a license.
I Live in Denmark, the computer is xp3 1500 MHZ 512 MB RAM.
Hope you can resolve the problem and give it away again, it will be definitily a keeper
