"In order to add these type of files you need to know the Hex Value and the Offset Value of the file"
I have not find that possibility in "7-Data" !
Today, I have test the programme FileRestore Professional 4.2.1, many options are presents, but restoring did not work.
And the quick search needs 10 minutes. I have also test M3 FileRescuer 3.5 which is free today. Both are like others, restoration is aleatoire. I confirm that, "Lazesoft Data Recovery Professional" is the best for the restauration of a big file. A new version will appear before august, and few limitations should disappear. I am not a personne who make many mistakes, but i recognize that i need that program few time a year.

Modifying my comment to #51--Lucky==more specifically, I do not get a "Need to format" error message--simply the hard drive is not seen and when going to the disk manager the drive does appear but the partitions are noted as needing to be formatted. The OS sees the partition once it is assigned a Drive Letter.

TO #51-Lucky

I often get that "Need to Format" message when plugging in a USB Hard Drive. Without Exception (so far!) I simply go to the Hardware Management thru the Control Panel and the Drive appears there as needing to be formatted. THEN I SIMPLY GIVE THE PARTITION INVOLVED A NAME. And Win 7 then sees the Hard Drive just like it should and as per normal. This behavior seems almost random when plugging in a USB hard drive. Doesn't happen all the time, and not to the same hard drives. Easy to fix though. Hope that might be your issue too.

Hi, my main interest in this Software was to TRY to recover some Pictures that simply vanished from certain Folders (..one not so sunny day:), so I went straight into Digital Media Recovery Section and choosing (beforehand) Advanced Settings - selecting Graphics only.

I then briefly run a scan stopping it after about 2-3 mins to look what it found. And indeed there were already considerable number of Files "sorted" into jpgs, bmps a.s.o - to look at (any File can be previewed with right-click), be selected individually, saved into created Folder..

Straight away I could see I had no idea which Folders they came from - which is a great PITY! Underneath (on the bottom right of Console) there are "symbols" such as ?, x and so on that Files can be "marked" with, but none of my Files were marked as deleted (x mark) - so I was not sure if 3 chosen pictures I decided to save into different Drive were ONLY scanned, or actually missing and "found/recovered"..So, so hard to tell when there is hundreds and hundreds of Folders containing Pictures.
Folks have usually pretty good idea which Folders have missing Pictures(!!), but will look at something forgotten and cheer seeing it again "found" by this Software.

So - Do we simply see the scan of EXISTING pictures anyway, or what??
That's where detailed PATHS are so, so (and so) Useful!!
Looking up for Folders, not Files ONLY when it comes to Pictures is of any sense here, but it DOES NOT exist.

I shall give it another go when having more time, but so far - Program lacks of BASIC features when it comes to Folders containing Picture Files. Shame:((

I disagree with time limited software, and generally avoid downloading it. It is not a true giveaway.

I have tried giveaways from this site, and if I use it frequently, I later purchase the product.
Unless you are a tech, the average user should rarely have a need for data recovery software.
I am responsible for 11 family computers, and have had to use data recovery maybe once in 10 years.

If the license allowed it to be used on any number of machines for a year, I could see a tech, who may need data recovery 10-12 times a year putting it on a flash drive and paying for a subscription after the trial period.

AS A HOME USER - FORGET IT.

Some have recommended free alternative software.

Please note that:

Easeus Data Recovery Wizard Free Edition
and
MiniTool Power Data Recovery Free Edition 6.6
have got a file limitation of maximum 1 GB.

That makes them almost useless.

In addition, one user review ( roelandtaams ) on C.Net Download.com had mentioned that MiniTool Power Data Recovery Free Edition 6.6 is not free and that although it searched for and found the deleted file, you must upgrade to paid version before you can undelete the file.

First off they sell different license types, today they are giving away their 1 year license (still very generous). I have no problem with that, I don't expect anyone to spend their life/money/time they could spend with their family/whatever to make completely free software for me! They should fix the price that they are advertising here with the one on their site though.

Now for the software no one here has enough time to actually evaluate all of the features so I can't actually say how great or bad it is, though if you check out their site there is a lot more to this software than any of the freeware out there.

I am always amazed at the amount of comments here about China. I'm sure most if not all the negative ones have never gotten any malware from any software from there, or are being spied on by them or any of the other ridiculous statements that they make (you do know people read these comments right?) most of China is great, with friendly people (most people mistake the language gap as them being rude, not so), and if you have ever went to Hong Kong you would know how amazing it actually is! I don't understand why GAOTD allows such racism, all it does is degrade this site. I'm sure the moderators in the forums would not allow this so why do these moderators post such negativity when it is clearly untrue? FYI I am not Chinese so don't think I am defending them for that such reason, I am just so very tired of reading those useless comments and I am starting to wonder if I should even have any respect for this site?

I've been downloading from GOTD and its sister site GGOTD for a few years and this is my first comment. Last Saturday I was backing up files to my external hard drive. All was fine. On Sunday I plugged it in to back up a few more files and I got the dreaded message that the disk was not formatted and did I want to format it now. ACK! Years worth of my life were backed up on that drive. I contemplated exactly what my options were and decided to wait until this weekend to try to fix things. BTW, I had downloaded a recovery program from Easus a while back from GOTD, but had downloaded it to the external drive in case I needed it for my main computer hard drive. Anyway, today's program was just what I needed. I read all the negative comments, but figured it was worth trying since I had nothing to lose. As I type this the program is recovering thousands of files. (It currently says it will take quite a few hours, but I don't care how long it takes as long as it gets my stuff recovered.)

So to those leaving negative comments, maybe you should have given it a try. Maybe you should remember that not everyone has all those other programs or extensive program knowledge. Maybe I don't have the time to research them all and read all the different reviews. Some of us need a little help and GOTD tries to do that and I trust them. The people who make the programs work hard on them and are letting us try them FREE. So what if other things are free all the time? This one is here now and FREE now. And working to get me out of a jam.

As for negative comments about the translation skills of developers (I see this kind of comment often) all I can say is his/her English is way better than my Chinese, Korean, French or whatever. And there are talented computer programmers all over the world, not just in the U.S., so give them a break.

Thanks, GOTD and SharpNight (7DataRecovery), I'm a happy downloader!!

And I'll say the same thing I said yesterday. This is not a Shareware Download site. Those are a dime a dozen, and we're thankful for them. Personally I am very thankful for the OpenSource Sites and the Freeware Sites also. Some of the best programs and fresh new ideas come from such places.

However, there's a difference. This is a Giveaway Site, a unique concept. What you receive here is expected to be a Giveaway, just as the name GiveawayoftheDay.com implies. Yet its still advantageous to the developer in a variety of ways, including direct sales. So everybody wins.

But as Giveaways, there are rarely 'Shareware-like' limitations on these programs.

To recover large video files, the "Lazesoft Recovery Suite" program has always helped me out. Simply specify the filter. * Ts or *. rar and restoration follows in stride. It have support for Windows 8 also manages large disks. "File Restore Professional" program from "PC Recovery Ltd" dates from September 2011 and have no support for Windows 8. I still will test soon. I have bought and tested a lot of restoration programs, and confirm that only "Lazesoft Recovery Suite" has always allowed me to cancel an deleted immediate file error. The more you work, the more this type of error is inevitable. Such aid is essential and deserves a financial investment. Who did not return to work at the beginning or lost a file?

Well I can only say this. A software of any type with a subscription up grade is nothing more than a money Grab! Hense forth with the exception of an antivirus program, But I wonder there to if those guys can create software to stop Virus code who saying they cant create a new virus code to boost there subscriptions too.

I belive in once you pay for something it's yours. Thanks to Bill Gates and his License Scheme from Microsoft with Dos and IBM everyone is trying to get a peice of the pie.

I really liked the old days when you Purchased software and it was good for the pourpose for what it was to do. It was Yours and you could install it on any computer and as many as you wanted back in the Day if you wanted the newer version you bought the newer version but the older version still worked for what intended. Subscriptions are nothing more than a marketing scheme set up to suck money out of the customer. In My Opinion That is sucky Service to a paying customer. and in The end you get Nothing but a peice of software code that is defective after a period of time and wont work.

Might as well Light your money on fire and get the same result!

Because of the subscription THumbs Down! Way Down!!

I really wish you would all quit whining! These companies are not an altruistic non-profit whose purpose is to give software away. They are there to make money, just like all of you when you go to work. If we are lucky enough to get this software free, we are getting it to "try it out". So they give it to us with a 1 year license to give us a chance to give them our opinion of their software. If you like it enough after that, BUY IT! I am not connected with any of the companies, I said the same thing yesterday. I've been using GOTD for many years, and the childish whining has gotten out of control. Shut up, children.

With the program being limited to one year functionality, I'll pass (with my luck I'd need this program 366 days from now). Oddly, I aborted the install after doing no more than reading the EULA, yet received the message that it is now registered.

FWIW, I'm sold on Easus Data Recovery. It's free and it recovered two 400gig HDs that malware had rendered to "unallocated space".

Win 7 Ult/64, Quad Core, Triple Monitor.

Just last week in haste I deleted a folder filled with video files with the .vob and .ts extension. I recognized this immediately as I could not edit the next file because the folder was gone. Time for a good undelete program?

I had Recuva--no joy.

So, I went looking tried 7-Data. It was looking pretty good except it does not recover .vob or .ts files unless you add them MANUALLY to a special menu/list. In order to add these type of files you need to know the Hex Value and the Offset Value of the file. Who knows that? So the program was worthless to me.

I installed and tried to run about 12 programs found thru google. NONE worked to recover these types of video files. A few will recover .avi and .flv files but then on checking they are garbled.

The ones that do "deep scans" took about 48 hours to scan my 3 TB Hard Drive (including 7-Data). Thats ok--I can do something else but when all they turn up is files that are "not video" files, they aren't much good for me.

THEN I found FileRestore Professional. It did a complete deep scan in about 2 minutes, found every file on my Hard Drive including the NAME of the deleted file. Only problem was the price....$80. For a product I will hope to use only once every 10 years. Assuming the recovered files are good, this looks like the best program out there "for video files." YMMV.

Happy Undeleting.

Well, I'll try it - my problem is that I have what is supposedly a totally dead sata drive - I've tried about 6 recovery programs so far - if the drive is found at all it shows as being RAW - if I try to format, I get 'unable to write to disk' type errors - I've tried the standard tricks of the trade, tried a variety of freebie programs, hopefully this one will do the job... if not, if someone has a suggestion, I'm all ears :-)

another subscription based software from China, i mean Hongkong. Your program is good but there is a lot of similar software that is not subscription based. Maybe try a software like antivirus, that would be acceptable to be subscription based.

@software babe thanks for the share. I'll try that software.

As for the comments, "this is more than just an undeleter", I'm inclined to agree, if it can restore deleted partitions and formatted hard drives as well. I ran into the situation where I needed to recover a partition from a drive, and I searched for free or reasonably priced alternatives, and I found none. If this giveaway can restore a deleted partition, even if it's only for a single year, then I'll install it on my key go-to tech box, if for no other reason than to have that sort of coverage for a single year.

Does anyone know of any good free partition recovery tools? File undelete tools are almost a dime a dozen (and a lot of good free ones -- TestDisk is awesome), but there are larger headaches out there that aren't so easily remedied.

I already own GetDataBack for both NTFS and FAT.
http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm
I also use Recuva and WiseDataRecoveryFree.
All of them work excellent and I can get most anything off of almost anything.
If you want me to try your software you need to have lifetime updates. You'll make plenty of money off of the people I tell how good your software is(or isn't). In the more than 12 years I've owned GetDataBack, I've used it maybe 10 times, so a year license may never get used and I'm not going to bother installing anything that is a waste of my time.

Installed and registered on Windows 8/64 and XP SP3/32 with no issues at all.

This program is simple to use, and even though I don't have much experience using deleted file recovery programs in general, I didn't have to look at help or instructions even once to use it. Its simple-but-effective user interface is a welcome relief.

To test it, I went after a file I deleted a good while ago from a 2 Terabyte external backup drive. It scanned the near-full drive in under 2 minutes. Once located through the usual tree-structure drill-down, the file was instantly recovered. The program reminded me that saving to the drive being operated on might be a bad idea, but allowed me to choose, then provided a handy link to the target directory for me once saved.

Yes, it's true there are a lot of such programs out there, but we all know that no SINGLE program is perfect for all cases. This will be a welcome addition to my system, even if only for a year.

The purpose for this site is two fold: allow users to try software and software writers to get feedback about their wares. Users try software and provide functionality feedback, not unlike beta testers. For this, the sftw is gratis. The smart company will pursue credible comments--altho' I have not heard of any follow-ups, so they may be missing the boat on that.

The part where the GAOTD bargain breaks down is that testing for 24 hours is entirely insufficient to thoroughly test any product beyond mere installation. Anyone of merit will not have 24 consecutive hours to play with any software no matter how fascinating. Hence, feedback for the vendor (other than price complaints and available alternatives) will always be of limited value. By way of example, if a sftw for room layout designs was offered, I could use it; but my schedule is such that it would be 9-11 days before there would be sufficient openings in my schedule to see if the sftw had value for my purpose (yeah, busy guy).

Let's face it, if one really needs a sftw, one will buy at the time of need. That is why I, who had free Acrobat Pro 5 & 6 for years and years, did subsequently buy Acrobat 9 and 11--even though the free versions still work. So full function free versions do generate sales, even if Giovanni and his supporters can't see past "free". That is where astute sftw vendors should be headed. Obviously the business plan must recognize this route.

There can be little doubt, a truly unique software is rare; most new offerings are similar to others previously issued--free or otherwise. For a user to buy the new, there must be something of more value in new vendor's sftw that makes his more preferable; more of the same goes nowhere.

It is counter-productive to argue over pricing here, except to suggest the writer/company to do further market research; an over-price will become apparent to the vendor. So while there is a place for "free" in home versions, a more valuable expanded version should always be available to techs, business and those who want the latest licensed software. Some companies offer old versions as tryouts. It seems if a sftw has value, free licenses will produce future sales, especially as MSFT manipulates OS to allow the US federal government to spy on you. You'll have to do your own research on that (HINT: in their eyes you have no rights). (BTW, if you write software, programs that close backdoors, or runs encryption that does not require recoverable keystrokes, or is an viable OS option instead of Win(H)8, or provides a secured way to house all of your OS and files not on your computer or any HD and still remain functional, or is any other anti-government snooping programs, THIS IS WHERE THE BIG MONEY IS GOING TO BE by this Fall.)

I like reading about the alternatives even though probably not truly appropriate for posting here. That keeps me up-to-date on what lesser known companies are up to.

If you MUST pay for a product like this, I would suggest ZAR. I purchased ZAR to retrieve files from a failed drive (USB) and it retrieved every single file, which included, photos, videos, and audio files, not to mention, Word, Excel, and Publisher files. Yes, I paid for it, but it is NOT a subscription. I have had it for 5 years now and cannot live without it. REMEMBER, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE NOT WRITTEN TO THE DRIVE, SINCE IT FAILED, YOU CAN RETRIEVE ANY FILE. Also, it retrieved files from a re-formatted hard drive.

Please read carefully, the review is for the previous version 2.0. We have released the current version 2.1 just to address this issue. If you make your comment based on Google searches not on your own test, you are making yourself no sense at all.

Regarding our company origin, I will give the clarification this once. We are a Hong Kong based company, (yes, you could say that Hong Kong is part of China now) but we respect the property right and law of Hong Kong, not China.

So please focus on the software itself instead of spreading your hostility against Chinese company everywhere.

How often do you accidentally format a hard drive?

It appears that this cannot be ran from a bootable CD. This is a show-stopper for me. Pulling a drive and scanning it from an external docking station is not very reliable and much slower.

Other commercial products have a "make bootable" option to create a bootable CD to scan a system and recover the files to an external disk drive.

I find the website confusing. The "Suite" is the same price as buying the individual programs separately. So why even offer the individual programs?

I already own 2 commercial recovery programs, and they are licensed for lifetime. Selling a program that is seldom used on a yearly basis does not sound like a good business model which probably explains the nearly zero market share of this product.

For anyone out there wondering, there is NO software utility that will recover files that have been overwritten even once. There were back in the days of removable platter drives (RL02, RP06, etc.) but not modern high-density drives.

A quick test to recover a just deleted image file was unsuccessful; a general test followed by setting the filter to JPG resulted in the list of files none of which and the internal structure of a JPG file, nor could a thumbnail of them be viewed.
The above results and the very high price would certainly not tempt me to purchase this program. Also, I'm confused as if this is an annual subscription of $59 when you do purchases program, uninstalled.

Say what you want, but I'm not supporting these "1 year" subscription licenses. To get "free" software only to have it turn into a "paid" version is an oxymoron. That's my opinion.

I've got to agree with B@skelli, the idea of a subscription based data recovery program has turned switched off all the interest I had in this giveaway.

Unless the subscription is for SUPPORT and UPDATES, and the program itself has no built-in time limits, I too will be passing on this one.

I have not even thoroughly tested today´s offer (but looks fairly good to handle) ...

But: be fair!
Don´t compare this to the free versions of commercial undeleters (as Eseus, iCare, etc.): They are ALL limited in how much data you can undelete!
If you (by bad luck) lose data, I think it´s a REALLY bad idea, to be only able to get part(s) of this data back!!!

But there exist really great undeleters without any limitation. (Look up in older giveawa comments or google.)

Nevertheless 3 tips:

* One of the most capable, but hard to understand and handle for average users is the suite "Testdisk" and "PhotoRecovery".

* for daily use in occasionally deleted file(s) there are tons of good working ones - each with its limitations and special approaches in terms of guidance, preview of files to recover, etc.

* Due to its small size and simplicity I personally most often use the last free version of "HandyRecovery".

NOTE:
I explicitly agree with #8 (LVE4GOD): better have more than one toll at hand - BUT you should become a semi-professional in using one of these tools!

"The program is available for $59.95, order it Will Be free for our visitors as a time-limited offer."

Where does this price of $59.95?

1 Year $29.95 (was $39.95)
Home $49.95 (was $69.95)
Pro $79.95 (was $99)

Updates are available from Year 1 GOTD?
Possibilty if, how and at what price?

Thank you in advance for the feedback.

Installed on W7x64 Pro. No problems.

Easily recovered some files for me. Seems to work well (and much better than Recuva, etc).

Definitely worth trying, IMHO.

to #1 + #7 SharpNight LLC from 7datarecovery.com

1 "GOTD version includes 1-year subscription. Updates are available."
Does this mean that you get updates for 1 year and with the last update it ceases functionning? In this case I won't bother with this product.

2 ***Please not before registration it shows as a Free Edition which supports recovering only 1GB data."
Is "Please not before registration it shows" a result of google translator? I hope for a better tranlated English user interface.

It's the same company from Hongkong, China (PRC) as
NTFS to FAT32 Wizard given away on 6 June 2013 and "Recommended title" today.

Searching for tests I found (for free variant)
http://www.downloadcrew.com/article/30099-7-data_recovery_suite_20_free
with an answer by Kevin Zhou, 28 April 2013 05:59 (We are the developer of 7-Data Recovery ...)
Same test at same date
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/downloads/3329133/7-data-recovery-suite-20-free/
Next search results were another giveaway site in May, afterwards only this giveaway and other recovery software. No very well known product.

I'm hoping Giovanni will tell about some free and unrestricted recovery software like TestDisk, Recuva, PCInspector Filerecovery, PCInspector SmartRecovery and others.

And thanks to #9 LVE4GOD
for completing my list.

Please note that the validity of the program is one year only. Voluntarily removing different types of files, the recovery test is consistent with other programs available. Recovery remains uncertain. In other words, recovery is possible, but not always available, even if the conditions are optimal. Recovery of deleted data is fast, but full recovery is too long. The ability to sort the results by size, date, name is very convenient. Recovery from a partition or a hardware problem it is another problem. But in practice, only the intervention of a specialist can guarantee an outcome that avoids the effects of a pre-programmed automation. Propose a program easy to use recovery is good, but be realistic about the result of work obtained would be nice.

Yeah, I know it is free today, so thanks for the offer – but...

$29,95 (was $39,95!) for an one PC, one year license for non-commercial use only – for a program which will be used by most (if not all) users on a very occasional basis only?

Dream on!

IMHO programs like this one – if they are not Freeware – should be sold on an one-time payment basis only and not by subscription!

Naturally, I will pass on this one.

It´s a pitty that the license is time limited.
Time limeted in running?

Hopefully thta this circumstance is not running like a virus over all sw-companies, i mean others than anti-malware ones.
AND
hopefully that this is NOT a sign for the functionality of this site.

HOLY SATURATED FIELD, BATMAN!

In addition to those already mentioned, all of these are free (though some are kinda old); to save some time and effort, i'm listing the download.com URLs, but most of these can be gotten from other sources too (i.e. softpedia.com, majorgeeks.com). Whenever the option appears, i suggest clicking on "Direct Download Link":

Easeus Data Recovery Wizard Free Edition
download.cnet.com/Easeus-Data-Recovery-Wizard-Free-Edition/3000-2248_4-75184619.html

iCare Data Recovery Free
http://download.cnet.com/iCare-Data-Recovery-Free/3000-2248_4-75628752.html

Pandora Recovery
http://download.cnet.com/Pandora-Recovery/3000-2094_4-10694796.html

MiniTool Power Data Recovery Free Edition
http://download.cnet.com/MiniTool-Power-Data-Recovery-Free-Edition/3000-2094_4-10561431.html

Wise Data Recovery
http://download.cnet.com/Wise-Data-Recovery/3000-2242_4-75715872.html

Undelete 360
http://download.cnet.com/Undelete-360/3000-2094_4-75329667.html

There are also good free all-in-one suites that include an undelete function:

Glary Utilities
I'll leave it to you to decide whether you want the regular, slim or portable (sorry Giovanni, don't mean to intrude on your territory ;) version; just visit http://download.cnet.com/windows and type "glary utilities" in the search box!

Advanced SystemCare
http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-SystemCare/3000-2086_4-10407614.html
(Remember, "Direct Download Link" -- and pay attention while installing to prevent toolbars and browser hijack and whatnot!)

Wise Care 365 Free
http://download.cnet.com/Wise-Care-365-Free/3000-18512_4-75744630.html

Toolwiz Care
http://download.cnet.com/Toolwiz-Care/3000-2086_4-75610754.html
(Same caveats as Advanced SystemCare)

Your best bet is to have at least a few undelete programs installed (and at least a couple of the suites, for that matter), because chances are 1-2 programs alone will not be enough to get that deleted file you really REEEEAAAALLY need!

As for today's offering: You have got to set your product apart from all the others if you want to charge such a high price. Also, the name makes it sound like it's meant primarily for Windows 7, which is not only several years old, it's weird to have something so limited.

About 7-data recovery Suite today - Note: Please note that GOTD version includes 1-year subscription. Updates are available.

Quote #67 june 18th. (Kingsoft Giveaway):
Software that will remain functional as it is, over the years, will normally come with a permanent userlicense. A Photo-application is a good example. New versions are no reason to stop older versions from working, but new versions might be only for selling because of the efforts modernising the code.

Software that needs continuous effort to stay effective and functional, normally comes with a temporary userlicense. You have to renew to pay for the continuous efforts. A virusscanner is a good example because of the signature updates. A cloud based application is another example because of maintenance of the accessed cloud servers. New versions might be a reason to stop older versions from working (compatibility) and should be bought because of the effort to create the new version and keeping things functional and actual.

About the giveaway:
There is no reason why recovery software should stop being available over time, nor that newer versions would stop older versions to function. It would be reasonable to accompany recovery software with a permanent userlicense.

After buying this type of software, nobody has to do any effort (unless you accept doing the efforts yourself by paying for license renewals) to keep things functional and nobody should earn something for doing nothing.

But in this case you are entitled to get updates during your temporary userlicense of one year. And of course, updates have to be made, efforts have to be taken. That would make it fair to accompany this software with a subscription, right? No, not at all! ...

Suppose you want to order a pizza with ham and cheese but then they tell you you can only do so when you also order anchovy (tied sales).
I would tell them, I just want pizza with ham and cheese. Í don't like ruining my pizza-deal and pay extra for what I don't want.

I'm telling here, I only want recovery software without the tied sales of updates. Only acceptable with a permanent user license.
Just pizza with ham and cheese please. Todays giveaway is no deal to me.

By the way, I'm merely expressing my opinion, you can have yours, but don't start telling me I shouldn't bother, I should be pleased, I should accept all kind of factual life etc. That's is only to me to decide, you'll have to do with my opinion - as is -
