After downloading this and using it for about a week I noticed odd things happening in my Chrome browser. Links opening on their own when I would click OTHER links. GARBAGEWARE such as this should cause the developer to be BANNED from any further GOTD giveaways. This is completely unacceptable.

I do love the program. Unfortunately, there's a nasty redirect virus associated with this program. I installed the program on 3 pc's and that virus was introduced through this program. Difficult to get rid of and I'm a computer programmer!

Beware that this garbage program soundfrost.org hijacks the browsers and redirects every click in google search to any site of its developers interest including porn sites. They may be as well stilling your login IDs and passwords. Should be rather reported to the FBI and similar organizations around the globe.

Installed and worked fine but after reading some of the comments, I looked further into the program and became uncomfortable. In addition to the questionable EULA, there appears to be a redirect virus associated with the program's website. Too many red flags.

I just turned on my computer and found this here like this. Apparently, I didn't click submit on the comment before powering down on Monday.

Downloaded this yesterday and gave it a try. The program itself is great, but what happened randomly afterwards has me confused. My browser now opens new tabs for redirects and I haven't done anything other than install this program to create such nonsense.

If this is the case, this is horrible, both on the developer for including this without my knowledge and GOTD for making sure this type of activity is not passed on to the users.

Unacceptable.

I can understand why Malwarebytes blacklisted this site. Spent most of the day after I downloaded the software, trying to get rid of the nasty little redirect virus that would send me to quite different places to what I'd found on Google Scholar. [The site I got instead of a journal article on human-animal interactions was particularly disgusting!]. I'd certainly recommend that Giveaway of the Day avoids this company in future, if it wants to protect its current good reputation!

This application installed search modifying software in all of my web browsers, and hijacks the intended web links to redirect my surfing to third party advertisers. It did not reveal this advertising malware as a part of the program operation at the time of installation. Giveaway should at least search the web engines for "soundfrost malware removal" before pushing this type of application to their audience! You should not have sponsored this giveaway.

I have not commented before, but check this site everyday. I want to thank a lot of you for your helpful comments and thank you GOTD. I appreciate what GOTD does and have installed many great programs and games.

I installed this yesterday and have also been victim of SmartSuggestor (in addition, the stupid program kept crashing when I would search for one particular song).

I'm not happy and have wasted hours (as some others have, too) searching the internet (where SmartSuggest = virus), looking through my installed Firefox add-ons and installed programs that appeared to be related to SmartSuggestor. I found nothing. I scanned my computer with various programs, including MalwareBytes. Nothing. Finally, after restarting Firefox, the SoundFrost add-on/extension appeared (why it wasn't there before, I don't understand since I have restarted Firefox a few times since I installed SoundFrost, which required me to close Firefox and Chromium). I disabled it and it fixed the problem.

However, like others, I do not appreciate having something like this installed without my consent. Also, while I didn't pay for the program, my understanding is we are getting the $50 program. So do those who hand over $50 still get this SmartSuggestor @#%@#$^ installed?

I gave them the benefit of the doubt when I read other comments that suggested shady behavior by this company. Never again and I would add this to that list of shady behavior (I do not remember agreeing to install SmartSuggestor or even be told that it would be installed and given the chance to cancel the install... someone correct me if I'm wrong there).

I have uninstalled and will not be installing anything from this company again... Ever.

Love the program, but I dislike the SoundFrost Google Chrome extension that installed along with it. The Extension is responsible for SmartSuggestor adding links to sites. When you hover your cursor over these links you get popups that I personally will never use.

Out of principle I would never buy from any site that used such underhanded invasive advertising software. It took me hours to locate the source of this particularly noisome extension. I ran Anti-Malware scans and even at one point, thought it was a DNS problem. To anyone else that dislikes this kind of invasive application, go to extensions in Chrome and turn off the SoundFrost extention
The main program will still work.

Thank you for a wasted day,

Totally disgusted!

Seemed to be working well until did search for J-M Jarre when it crashed every time did search for this one artist. Emailed the company and they said download the other free version from their website. Then the email dialogue with company on the right hand side disappeared after I had message there was another email from them, so I have never read this second email as I cannot get to it.
Did not like the way that it wouldn't work unless it was initiated at start-up, if I disabled start up couldn't get it to work afterwards.
First impression it would seem can be misleading as think this is a bit too buggy for my liking so now have un-installed. A quick look at the website also showed a yellow WOT warning for them so all in all this doesn't look like a giveaway to get or keep as it stands

Seriously, people think this program violates copyright?

This program is just a search engine music finder.

The music is there, sometimes provided by the artist or their marketing and publicity folks, in other words, put up for world wide broadcast by the copyright holder themselves to be listened to b anyone anywhere anytime FREE, NO CHARGE.

They WANT us to listen.

We cannot even experience it -- listen to it -- without a COPY of it first being written to our hard drive anyway -- NO experience on the Internet can be witnessed without a COPY of it first being written to our hard drive -- in other words, COPIED!

According to case law, it's within copyright for us to copy and listen whenever we prefer, again, see the 1980s Sony time shift suit against Universal Studios.

It's like recording via cassette over the radio 50 years ago, or recording the TV via VHS or DVR, only now it's all computerized.

I'm sorry for anyone banned by an ISP company for "downloading" music, as that sounds outside the legal system; there's probably more to that story, and expensive lawyers might be required to sort it out, yet we little folk at the end of the line don't have much resources to defend ourselves according to the law, so greedy companies take advantage of their power over us.

Regardless, if you can hear it or see it or experience it in any way, you can record it, and enjoy it whenever.

TO #2 wax paper,
This is an application that puts all sources together to find what you need in one place, searches and loads faster than other similar software, and because you don't have wait ages to load pages to preview the quality in items in your search results, as you would with youtube, it is far superior. It offers video as well as audio. It shows a copyright warning. I doubt youtube has special rights above and beyond this program. I also know that we can record from radio or TV. What's the big deal? SoundFrost simply makes a software that makes our jobs easier. Some people also copy their CDs and DVDs to share with friends and family. I don't think artists and producers pay royalties for the "ingredients" in the discs, the sound generated with mics and mixers, and the use of electronics to record or the instruments played. No, there is a loophole there. Just as there is one that says if you don't want it copied, create something that's impossible to "crack" to record on, and stop airing on radio and TV. Just appear live. I do not share, as I download for my personal listening, just as I could do if I recorded from TV or radio. I don't call this piracy. Piracy is what is going on when idiots patent every word they can get their hands on to profit from it's use in anything new. And those whom control the souls of musicians actresses and celebrities. Much bigger problem

To make this program work for the 49 dollar GAOTD version (pro) I had to remove (uninstall) a Comcast Anti Keylogger that was installed when the SoundFrost program was installed. (same time) That Comcast anti key logger prevented the registration box on SoundFrost from accepting the required name and activation code. Before I uninstalled the Comcast program I was not able to get the registration page to allow me to copy paste in the correct provided code. The box would just disappear. Now (finally after removing the ant-key-logger) I have the "pro version" installed and I was able to "copy / paste" in the correct code.

Thanks to SoundFrost + GOTD.
A bit skeptical at first.
Easily installed and activated.

This software can do Unicode search in foreign language using fonts that are not English alphabet.

It searches with amazing speed and the results are comprehensive.
The depth of the search is very good.

You can play back the songs found without needing to go into another audio player software. This is fun on the PC.

I like it.

Frankly, I do not care about the anti-piracy stance.
We are not audio pirates making 100,000 copies of a song to resell.
The relatively low audio output is NOT of high fidelity quality.
So musicians and singers have nothing to fear about this software.

In fact it is a benefit. Once PC-Internet users get exposed to their music on line, the public will go out and buy their CDs to listen on a high-end stereo system, where the speaker connecting cables alone can cost more than a thousand US dollars.

I do buy gold edition CDs of the singers that I like to play back on my HIFI system.

Remember to open up your Start Up manager software (for example like Chameleon Lite freeware)and disallow start up with Windows.

You can also disallow start up with Windows by going into the main menu, choose Edit, scroll down to Startup and click to toggle the switch.

Have fun.

There's three problems I have with this software:

1. It automatically puts itself in my start up items. If I don't tell you I want you to start when windows starts, I don't want you to decide that for me.

2. When I press your X button, rather than quitting, you go hide but stay open. Didn't even realize until I checked for something else there. You know, a "I'll be right here hiding near the clock, because my x button doesn't actually quit me" would be nice, but it would be nicer if when I tell you to quit you'd quit.

3. Something weird happened, even after I quit your program, and I made sure you don't start with my OS, for some reason a weird tiny icon for your software appeared in the hidden icons section near the clock. It definitely said soundfrost on the name, but left or right clicking it did nothing. More exactly, why?

I uninstalled this because, I don't want software that makes it uncomfortable for me to use it, and I definitely don't want software that just creeps in a dark corner where I can't really see it and doesn't respond when I try to communicate with it.

My pet peeves (most have been mentioned here already but I need to rant and rave! :) - did not even try it after all of this!)

1. FORCED me to close Firefox so it could add an
extension to Firefox (did not give me an option).
2. Sets itself to start with Windows (without asking)
3. Also installed "MyPrintScreen" "under the radar"
(without telling you it's installing it nor giving
you the option to opt-out)
4. Also sets MyPrintScreen to start with Windows!
5. Opens web browser to their purchase page after
installation (as IF I would ever buy it after all of this!!!)
6. attempts Internet access (with no option
to disable- likely update check). Could not find update check
setting in the registry nor any files nor in the program itself (but must admit I didn't look for long as all of this combined was MAJORLY ticking me off!)
7. Installs "SoundFrost Service" and sets it to run in
the background (AGAIN without asking!, AND constantly attempts Internet access!
8. Caused my computer to become unstable (used a LOT
of resources obviously...)

Removed all and rebooted; computer seems fine now. :)

Any more questions? LOL

Thanks to GOTD for the offering. To Soundfrost (and any other developer that may read this), I absolutely WILL NOT install ANY prgm that insists on installing to my C drive. MY C drive is only used for "critical" prgms. Please don't flatter yourself by thinking that Soundfrost qualifies as critical. Another minor item that comes up again and again when installing programs is that the 'create dsktop shortcut is checked ,I guess that is reasonable;but, why do SO many developers think that their prgm is SO important as to require a 'quick launch' shortcut --- ??? Thanks but NO WAY.

I downloaded this software and it activated and ran good initially. I downloaded a number of mp3's of old time radio shows. After about 10 downloads, I started getting the crash "QT..dll". I used the box on the right of the GUI to send a message to the company (unfortunately my message was broken up by my inadvertent use of returns.) I did mention that I was referring to today's GOTD.

The automated response to my first message gave me a link to an answer that said I could use only 10 downloads day (free version) and the use of this program expired at the end of the month.

This doesn't seem like software that GOTD would provide - especially since nothing about the short time of use (1 month) is mentioned anywhere. The program also loads stuff in "startup" and an add-on.

Your program is irritating!
I've tried to stop its auto startup but it doesnt work. Blocking it with winpatrol is the only way to stop it when I switch my computer on.

2. The X at the top of most programs is to close it, not minimise it to the task bar. Having to close it with a right click and then exit, like SKYPE, is also irritating.

otherwise ur program isn't bad.

Reading some of the comments above left me very unsure about this program. I, therefore, went to their web site and downloaded what they were offering. It came with a bill at the end (yetless than what is shown here, and for the Pro Version to boot). I tried it and was quite impressed, came back to GOTD, to download this "Ultimate" version. Downloaded fine, went to install, still going fine, then it said that it had to uninstall the version which I had already, still appearing to go fine, the program opened, with the billing site again. Would not offer for me to register, as it again showed that I had the Pro Version once again. Now I have it, though probably only a limited time trial (though there is nowhere that such is shown), and will likely soon be faced with the program no longer working. (Tried this a couple of times, uninstalling different ways with the same result when installed a new.) Remedial suggestions ?

Have been using Imesh for a while. Had to not allow to start on boot up also. but it's OK. ?! On SoundFrost the Edit tab is where to disable the startup on login. helpful pages the two links FAQ and How to use. the resize on the top right works good for me , says you can download multiple songs and set a play list, although it didn't work that way for me. I guess you could edit-string them together on your own. One machine W7x84 didn't install correctly, so used the one off website and seems to run but 500kB larger with the addition of the screen snapper and another DLL named SoundFrost and the Main App is 50 bytes bigger, 7days newer, would this be the bugfix version?, same version number. Thanks for the test drive, GOTD and SoundFrost.

First, the pop up window states this "free" version is good for only one month.

Second, went to shut it off and it wouldn't. This is on a new win7 prem 64 bit loaded and current OS, had to uninstall via control panel to shut it off....

I have and will not re-install it. Cheaper, better and SAFER to go back to iTunes.......

#2 I compared the results from SoundFrost with Abelsoft's You Tube Downloader and got about twice the results from SoundFrost.

#5 You are correct. The program crashes on some search queries. "Paloma" is one of them that produces crashes.

#42 and #47 The US DMCA is only valid in just ONE of 191 countries. In some other countries people have to pay some extra money for every HDD, DVD etc they buy to the local recording industy association and thus acquired the legal right to make a copy for their own use as long as they do not crack a copy protection and as long as the source is not recognizable as pirated. I trust you will agree that is the case with sources like YouTube.

taken from Digimuziek.nl and translated with Google trnaslate
Is downloading legal?
Downloading is not prohibited, even if the material is offered illegally

Representatives of the music and film industries like call that download the same as theft. Is that true?

No, it is much more nuanced. Anyone may make copies of music, movies or texts even if the source is illegal. All music and movies you can download without problem. Available on the Internet The only condition is that the copies may be. Exclusively for own use

Software and games are the only exception, which are additionally protected by the European Software Directive and may not be downloaded without permission.

The court confirmed this in a lawsuit against the search engine zoekmp3.nl

"The legislation requires that the copy of an infringing / illegal mp3 file for personal use, not being contrary to the Copyright Act."

For all those here screaming "illegal" . just fyi... that is country specific, not international law. For example in the Netherlands it is LEGAL to download music (even if from an illegal source) for PERSONAL USE. Same goes for making a copy (for personal use) of your cd's and dvd's. It becomes illegal when I would sell, distribute or make it available for others trough a site/torrent.

Maker of this program does NOT sell, distribute or make available of the music, they only search for it's url. That in itself is not illegal since there is no law ANYWHERE that prohibits sharing of youtube links (or other sites like vimeo etc)
In fact the site exploretunes (http://www.exploretunes.com/pages/start) does excactly the same while being endorsed by SRS (audio enhanching software)

I don't like any installer that closes ANYTHING on MY system without MY permission.
This installer just shutdown ALL browser windows I had open, both firefox and IE. So I LOST EVERYTHING I was working on.
I DID CLOSE the popup window that stated IE had to be closed with the X
Still this DIRTY installer went ahead and I LOST HOURS OF WORK IN A SPLIT SECOND.
That's reason enough to stay clear of any soundfrost program for the rest of my life.

@ #16 Giovanni; thank you, as always, for your recommendations.

Don't have a lot of time for writing; both "soundfrost.org" and "majorshare.com" are being red flagged (blacklisted) by McAfee.

Since I don't have time to expound the long and short of it is that after researching both sites I see no problem with either. Everything I've looked at and researched indicates that both of these sites are safe.

It would seem that the ethics of the SoundFrost developer, vendor aren't what you would call stellar, but the site seems fine.

As a quick postscript; Grooveshark Downloader, Recommendation by Giovanni, is listed on "Softpedia"; SoundFrost is Not! Download and install SoundFrost with caution I would think.

And dare I mention, while I'm here, that Glary Utilities is doing a promotional giveaway.

Nothing than an Youtube downloader.
And in additoion some suspicious functions, autostart entries etc.

I tried it and uninstalled again.

This is the first time I have a suggested alternative that is not on Giovanni's list:

Yet I did not recognize. But what I noticed is that restarts when downloading.
I read the comments - I see that not everyone is happy

I have been an avid computer user and music lover since the 1980's. Seldom do you find software that can do THIS much and do it with such ease. Installation was a breeze and when I fired it up it was so intuitive, I was finding, listening, and downloading music in seconds. I have used Speed##### for years but it will now be put on the back shelf because it doesn't come CLOSE to give the numerous options as to the format you want your download to be saved in as Sound Force.

A hearty WELL DONE to the development team of this "MUST HAVE" software. If you love music you can't go wrong with Sound Force.
