@90 (FauxJoe): Excellent finding! Indeed, you can install Portable version in the Dropbox folder, and have your data on any PC. Whatєs great about Dropbox, is that it uploads only pieces of modified data content, therefore itєs very fast when it comes to data synchronization, ever for huge volumes.

This is actually a really awesome program. I had some hesitation about downloading it, as I already use Evernote which syncs from my Windows PC to my iPhone (and there's not much in the way of cross-platform support like that, elsewhere.) However, Evernote doesn't allow much of a nested folder structure, and I really don't use tags, so I tend to have trouble finding information quickly. Even tagging stuff and using searches doesn't work well for me. I guess I don't do it right.

What I really liked about All My Notes is that I can still dl stuff directly into Evernote, but then use All My Notes to import it into AMN and then organize it how I want. I won't do this with everything, but for research projects, this will be a BIG help. Also, I was intrigued by the fact that I could add an alarm, a table or a checklist anywhere into a note, and thereby have a note that reminds me about a meeting, and which also contains all the information I need for that meeting in one place.

Last minute entry here...
I'm very impressed, so much so that I purchased a license. Under $10.00? DEAL!
By the way, I'm a die-hard MS OneNote user, but I see some value to AllMyNotes:
> Opens super fast and feels polished
> Portable version available
> One license, multiple computers
> Encryption
> Easy to sync
> Upgrade to next version
This will fill a niche for me, even with some OneNote redundancy.
Thanks Volodymyr for a well thought out program and policy and thanks GOTD!

I purchased this software the last time it was on GAOTD. It is easy to use, portable, and the developer is very responsive. It is so easy to organize my thoughts and notes with this app that it is my "goto" app whenever I want to jot something or copy something to remember. Thank you!

I grabbed this the last time it was offered, and I had a problem with the database getting corrupted, to be honest. So I contacted tech support, and they were extremely helpful. It turns out that somewhere along the way the program creates a backup file that allows you to restore your notes and that backup is updated automatically pretty regularly without input or action from you. Once getting with support and they told me where to find the backup and what to do, I was able to retrieve all of my notes and not lose anything due to the corrupted file at all.

Yes, it was giveaway, but they were helpful anyway, so helpful that I took advantage of the discount and bought it at the drastic discount price. I wanted to be sure that loading this on my next computer would not be a problem due to the large number of notes I have managed to store in it. Their 71% off makes the price come to a whopping $9.96 for what has turned out to be quite a headache-reliever for me. Now I am much more organized and I use this all the time, allowing it to load on start-up.

Grab this one while you can, guys, you will not be disappointed.

Oh, and if it works out for you, go ahead and buy it so that you can be sure you will still have your notes if you get a new machine. The one discounted price includes the portable version, too! You won't regret it.

Thanks to all who comment so intelligently on the software offered on this website, one of my favorites. I consider it the most helpful and interesting. Thanks especially to GAOTD, for offering some really great software. Thanks also to the developers that are responsive to the comments, such as Volodymyr Frytskyy. I tried importing data from Alpha Journal, found the import interface a bit difficult. AJ uses tabs, and to import one has to select 'dated' or 'undated' entries separately. I imagine also that each AJ tab will have to be imported separately, as well. Thanks for the chance to try AMN. I'll work with it to get all of those darned notes off my desk spike!

#56 - I respectfully disagree. I find the discussion of competing software products gives me a frame of reference for understanding how the GOTD offering works and compares to other products. I find the reviews from users are a big help to me and I appreciate the time that people take to comment regularly.
In the case of today's comments, I also greatly appreciate the responsive and thoughtful comments from the developer.
Whether or not I download today's offering, this has been a good day on GOTD and I might learn something, if I am not careful. (o:

I used InfoSelect for many years and now use UltraRecall for much of my work. Those are VERY expensive programs and, in the case of Infoselect, you pay a lot for features you will probably never use. AllMyNotes compares very favorably with both of those, given its much lower price, but it has one great advantage over both:

YOU CAN RUN IT FROM DROPBOX!

I am kind of surprised no one mentioned this, including the developer, but if you install it on a flashdrive per developer's instructions to get a portable version, you can later copy the program folder from the flashdrive (and any data folders you may have created) to your Dropbox. The program files take up less than 20 MB so they should not threaten your DropBox quota.

Well, the older version v2.60, referred to in #25, still has the license key file installed in the directory the program occupies. I have never backed up the program though, or attempted re-installation. Its just where it was on original install.

But it still says the Trial Period is over and it needs to be purchased. The file in question in this case, for that version, is "gotd-467.key".

In any case thanks for being here to field questions. That's very helpful. Although its still UnRegistered on this particular installation.

This is an excellent program and does exactly what it says it will do, and fortunately just what I need it to do. I have been using Flashnote, but this is limited in what one can do with the font, highlighting et al. Trust this one sticks around for awhile. Easily downloads and works very well on Windows 7 64 bit. Good addition.

I also took a flyer on this last time and purchased it for $10 (which is also offered today--click the coupon icon), before I was sure I'd use it.

It turned out that, for me, it works great. I have it open at startup. I'm using it as an easy, fast, local (as opposed to Evernote or similar) place to organize and store research notes (answering Derek #6). I prefer it to OneNote and Evernote, but I have simple collection needs, just a lot of links and text I organize by subject. The developer is responsive, and incorporated my one suggestion (a tab after naming the note moves you to the note body), and the license is generous (I've installed it on all my PCs).

To make my data less locked into one PC, I
- "synchronize" (a really poor-man's synchronization) to my other PCs, by specifying auto backups on my main PC go to my SkyDrive folder.
- make the data accessible (read-only and free-form) by my cell phone, by occasionally exporting to .rtf and/or .txt and putting that file in Dropbox (or SkyDrive or ...) cloud storage.

I too am surprised by the bad comments. I guess I have a different organizational style than many, being most comfortable with an hierarchical, outline type of style. You might instead consider using Evernote or similar tagging style if you don't like the hierarchical style, or if you need everywhere read-write capability. Or maybe consider using OneNote if you have complex research needs and/or like some Office tie-ins.

"I tap “yes” about finding a comment useful, it registers as an additional”no.”"
when you rate a comment, gotd script re-tallies all ratings (of only that comment) which adds all visitors' ratings in the time after you loaded the whole page. the other visitors' ratings have been "invisible" to you until your rating showed you the current tally.
so the comment rating may change to other than what your 'yes' or 'no' would change the rating.

Yes! It's back!

I've had this before and lost it when I reformatted then had to get a new computer. I did the chair version of the happy dance when I saw it posted again! Thank you!

First, I'm a writer. As such, I have more notes all over the place than I know what to do with. Though, like most, I try to organize them, it is a losing battle most times. This is amazing for that. Not only can I dump them all in one place, I can set them up per story and just flip through to find what is needed. That is not only a lifesaver but something that takes stress off! No, it's not perfect, as some have mentioned above, but it's a darned sight better than what I do most times and has an easy interface that someone like me can quickly and simply figure out then get it to dance the way you want it to. For that alone, it's worth a download and giving it a try.

Amazing program and anyone who has to keep notes on things should use!

I tried an earlier paid version of AMN on Linux and found it useful and worthwhile. But after some serious problems with that Linux/double boot setup, I went back to Windows and lost AMN and stored data. I prefer Treepad Business Edition, but could understand others preferring AMN.

As the author pointed out, if you want tagged entries, just include a line of tags at the end of your note. Same goes for dates, provided you standardize on one and only one way of entering dates. So, if your standard is "3/25/2013" and months from now you want to rerieve notes from or with references to that date, just search for "3/25/2013."

NOTE for Giveaway staff: Repeatedly, when I tap "yes" about finding a comment useful, it registers as an additional"no." Not just today, either. Something is wrong at your end, and no one should consider the comment ratings valid and reliable until it is fixed.

@61 Not sure that tags are necessary with the strong search built into AllMyNotes. Plus, for quick tagging or temporary highlighting, there is always Notezilla, which will stick itself to almost any program and is very easy - just stick your stickies where necessary like right in the AMN pages - useful when writing or composing larger documents - then toss or edit the stickies as necessary - just as you would use real stickies when writing or note taking.

@71 (zonie): If you already bought a license you can simply upgrade at any time, so far we didn't released any paid upgrades. Simply install the app.

Note: If you are upgrading from very old app version you should have in mind that previously we where saving data in "/My Documents" folder, while nowdays AllMyNotes saves data in "/My Documents/AllMyNotes" folders and therefore AllMyNotes created new (empty) data file in the new location. To open your old data file simply use File -> Open menu item.

@70 (Father Richard): Regarding notes that have sub-notes... To me it looks like matter of personal taste. Some users want it, others are against it. To explain my point better... Try to imagine that you have a File on your disk, which is also a Folder. Does it makes much sense, wouldn't it be confusing? If you like this Notes parenting idea then it doesn't means that AllMyNotes is bad or incomplete, it's just bit different philosophy.

@61 (the developer): Thank you for being so responsive to the comments. There are many of us out here who seldom (or never) post comments but follow very closely the comment section. The only mentioned lack (now that you have explained the apparent lack of tags and your program's alternative) that concerns me about AMN is the lack of sub-notes. Do you have an alternative way to handle that as well? I look forward to your company's future advancement in the field as you are listening to the users comments here and this forum has more impact on the general buying public that is readily apparent. Even if I do not use your product now, I will remember your timely help for those who have asked for it. Thank you GAOD and Volodymyr Frytskyy.

This is not a review, but a question...so I will expect a lot of "not helpful" votes and won't be offended. :) I read somewhere in a review of an alternative product linked from this page that notes could be marked as completed (or something to that effect). That is a feature that could be very helpful to me for a particular ongoing task. But now I can't find the review and can't remember the product. Can someone with better memory please help me? Thanks in advance! And thanks to the GAOTD team and software publishers for making this wonderful service possible.

I don't know about everyone else but this is my favorite software. I have tried many of the others mentioned but have settled on this one. I told all my friends about it and they now use it.

It is so easy my Grandchildren are using it. Today at 70% off I purchased it for 9.96, and installed it on my home PC, my work PC, my laptop and my usb. (License says as long as it is only me I can install on multiple computers) I simply copied my databases from the past year and pasted into the new installs. Instant synchronizing. For under $10 I am totally organized.

By the way, I have multiple databases I can open. I keep my music & dvd listings in a separate databases. (keeps size of everyday db down)
I have several other private databases I keep also. It never crashes, imports all my pdf, pictures, web info without a glitch. So easy to copy one file and work on any computer. It is like having access but without the hassle and much easier to organize. ( I use both programs so I know)

As #60 said, 5 stars and 2 thumbs up from me also.

Downloaded, installed and registered without problem on W7Ult.

I never take notice of the amount of thumbs down on GOTOD, as many
visitors in my own opinion give a thumbs down without, downloading
and trying the giveaway. I much prefer to be guided by the comments
that are written.

I am pleased to say that, because of the comments, i have installed
this giveaway and although i have not fully tested it. I do believe
that it is among the best that i have used in previous years.

Thanks must go to the people that left their valid comments and
also to the maker of the giveaway and to GOTOD.

The only thing stopping me buying this with the discount, is the
fact that becaus i live in Britain i am charged extra for tax
purposes. Otherwise i sure buy.

@54 (Giovanni): Do you think tags is #1 feature? I guess you've worked with Evernote too much. The reason why they have tags is because they _don't_have_folders_. Plus we have powerful search, so, if you like tags, add them as a text line in the bottom, and then search for any tags you like, everything is very simple. And these apps you've described, I believe some of them are nice, but not as good as AlLMyNotes, at least you have to try it yourself before doing this sort of coparison.

Been using allmynotes for years. I use capturesaver (offered earlier) to save web pages. I love AMN and the developer is great. Well worth the 70% off for a registered copy.
One more recommendation for the 'I like it free' crowd - acquirenotes journal is offered free here:
http://www.effectiveaspects.com/downloads/
and is also very good, free and written by another very responsive software developer. It is definitely worth a look.
Anyway, Thanks GAOTD for this great and USEFUL giveaway. And remember, AllMyNotes is always there sitting in the tray for whenever it is needed. Plus it is truly portable. Five stars and two thumbs up from me...

To developer no:26 comment, the giveawayoftheday installer only works on today alone, so the installer is totally useless for reinstallation unless we can use the trial version installer on your official website. Please clarify whether we could do that?

Thank you.

Ok I guess its my time to get on this. First of all I thought these comments were for the software offered here only. "Please comment only on the software here. If you have technical problems or suggestions on our project, please leave us a note in our forums." Now that being said lets keep the "This is better than this" and "my software is bigger than your software" comments out of this. If you have Alternative software that you want to make comments on please make them in a blog somewhere or post a link to your comments so the ones who want to make comments on This software don't have to read through pages of why you like whatever better. Now on to my 2 cents worth of comments about this software offered here. I like the ease and use of this, although I am not able to get it to register yet. I also like the portability of this, makes what I do much easier. The program does what it says and doesn't offer broken promises or hyped up lies. So in my Opinion this is a keeper once I get it to say professional version.

Well as usual, to figure out whether or not this GAOTD is worth downloading, I recommend you reading Ashraf's review although, as far as I know, CINTA NOTES, mentioned by Ashraf as better FREE alternative, is unfortunately no longer FREEWARE!!

In my humble view this GAOTD is one of the best note-taking app in the market right now, thus is worth downloading despite being unable to tag notes.

Can also be used to store not only notes but also contact details, financial info and even schedules though alarms.

So overall I give it a Thumbs UP despite the lack of Tag notes!!

However 34 BUCKS for an app like this is quite expensive, taking into account that there are great FREE ALTERNATIVES out there, anybody here (included Ashraf and the developer of this GAOTD) seem to be aware of, which do even more for FREE!!

But relax folks...Giovanni is here to help you...for FREE of course!!

BEST FREE ALTERNATIVES (besides EVERNOTE)

* Portable MyShelf Desktop 1.1 (==> my Personal First Choice)
Freaking awesome FREE multiplatform (Windows, MAC, LINUX) tool designed to keep in sync your most important notes, pictures, links and text snippets of any kind always at your disposal in your mobile phone, tablet, notebook or PC desktop. Notes are very easy to find because, unlike this GAOTD, this program creates THUMBNAILS for every new entry, also enabling users to create and edit their own tags.
Best of all, unlike other similar (paid & free) apps it does not rely on any darn cloud service out there, so with this magic tool you can ki$$ any kind of hassle (privacy concerns, service downtimes network issues and above all the monthly service fees and damn premium features fees for storing and syncing your data) goodbye for good.
Amazing, isn't it?

* Portable KNote
Very secure and easy to use FREE note taking tool featuring both integrated file management and blogging capabilities.
Unlike this GAOTD, notes of the same topic can be easily grouped together using TAGS, and are even encrypted and stored on users'local HD, flash drives, network drives or even on file hosting cloud services such as Dropbox.
This magic FREE tool can preserve the format of URLs and contents pasted in from the web, enabling users to attach files & folders to their notes via drag/drop or copy/paste, as well as connect DIFFERENT NOTES together. Notes can even be shared to your friends and relatives via a PRIVATE LINK published to the KNote Blog, which can be accessed only by those you send the link to, thus giving them the ability to leave a comment. Cool, isn't it?

* Portable-Efficient-Sticky-Notes http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/Office/Calendar-Organizers/Portable-Efficient-Sticky-Notes.shtml

* (Portable) Zim Desktop Wiki 0.56
Very cool free multiplatform WYSIWYG TEXT EDITOR which helps you keep an archive of your notes, take notes during your meetings or lectures, organize task lists, draft blog entries and emails and even do brainstorming with a sort of personal note-taking app WIKI!!
Content is displayed around a tree structure in the left index panel where pages are showed up in a similar way a file manager usually looks like, enabling you to link content both within a page and to other pages.

ALL FREE & PORTABLE TOOLS!!!

34 BUCKS without supporting TAG NOTES?? Come on....LOL!!!

Enjoy!!

Ciao
Giovanni

@ 6. Derek

"Is this a good item to use for research notes? For instance, I might find an article or news item with a piece of information I can use as a source later. Would this be good for sourcing information? If not, any suggestions on what to look for?

P.S. Why all the downvotes for #1 Ashraf’s review? His linked review is very comprehensive."

Some people are rather cruel in their voting, Derek, they're against anything they consider 'stupid', and they resent anything 'cleverer' than themselves.
Your second point about the comprehensiveness of Ashraf's review is partially undermined by your initial questions. Ashraf's review is not comprehensive enough to answer those questions. Yet you assert it's comprehensiveness, and your questions, in the same comment. It's not exactly a logical contradiction - the assertion of 'comprehensiveness' could refer to your positing of a general context - but it does amount to a performative contradiction, the questions and the assertion are not unified by a consistency of authorial intention. I might be wrong, but this could explain the voting.

@46 (Rob): You can use File -> Save As menu item to move your .ddb file to any other location, and, use this trick to move the .ini file. As simple as that. Alternatively, if you have Portable version, simply install it to C:\PGMS\AllMyNotes_Data\ folder.

@40 (Al): How does it compares to OneNote? Basically OneNote is very good app, unlike Evernote it’s really strong competitor, but still I have to say that AllMyNotes has advantages over it - much cheaper, much faster, compact, portable. So you better try it for yourself, hopefully you’ll like it better then OneNote – we are working daily to achieve this objective.

I have installed this, looking forward to using it but is showing freeware. I have opened it while connected to the internet but there was no allmynotes_b547.key downloaded so its still showing not registered. Will continue to see if there is a way to get it registered.
