Unlike the original Quarterdeck Clean Sweep and many the other sophisticated and intelligent registry cleaners that followed, this program does not utilize and build an internal database to first build an analysis of your system.

Such a pre-scan report with interactive toggles would allow you to review and turn on or off any of it's finding before taking action.

Such a "smart" system would also offer an undo, which this program does not offer.

This program is essentially a dumb scripting engine that barges ahead through your computer with it's pre-assigned list of tasks regardless of whether or not each individual step is good or bad.

Plus, we can't resize windows, there is no standard menu, no warning before proceeding as to what it will do at each click, no [ Back ] and [ Next ] sequence of steps to help us get familiar with alternatives within the program (if there are any), and it crashes with memory errors and self-exits on my WinXPProSP3 system.

Yes, some of my comment here is duplicate or summary, but overnight I'd been thinking about why this program seemed so wrong, and then I remembered how interactive the original Quarterdeck Clean Sweep was -- it used an internal database engine and really analyzed and kept track of what it was offering to do and offered controls and undo.

Since it been a dozen years or more since then, I would think it set a base standard for others to follow, but this program seems like a personal tool used by the developers, and it is merely a prettied up script that they probably ran all the time manually, so they automated it.

I have been waiting and waiting for the email with the registration codes, which I need to complete installation. Their site says if yuodo not get their email within 10 minutes, check your spam folder or try to regsister with a different email address. I've tried both, and after over an hour of waiting, finally decided I've had enough!

Read the above... the editor rates it excellent! Is this guy a notch above average? Users rate it 4 .. read all where one dude rates it one because he doesn't know how to download -- or maybe he is running windows 3? All and all there is a much higher quality of reviews then I find here. Many people on par with the aforementioned... they won't download but they rate programs - or they personally believe registry scanners are a waste. They know far more than all the fantastic programmers out there! You can bet they wouldn't make it out of the dugout! My apologies to all the fantastic people that dedicate their lives to create such wonderful apps for us and then get stupid feedback as is so often the case here. We need rules .. such as no voting unless you at least download the program and spend 5 minutes.
This set of utilities goes way beyond the normal registry cleaner with many other useful utilities. Again go to the above link at downloads.
This is so rude to the great people that offer programs for free no less!

@Ultimate Systems

"if it’s something which is 100% safe to be removed then it removes the entry or else it will skip it".

Thank you for the guarantee that your product is 100% safe. I couldn't find that guarantee on your website. Of course, that must also consitute a money-back guarantee. Excellent!

Praise be that you have arrived! 999 of us can rest now, because the 1 has arrived to fix all ills. Because, even though many of us 99.9% GAOTD'ers have been building PC's from scratch since 20 years before you were in business, we must have just been lucky to get that task completed without the help of the gifted 0.1% like you. I guess we just closed our eyes and hoped for the best: setting jumpers and dip switches on mobos and cards, soldering gun at the ready, if required; troubleshooting system build problems by listening... hmmm... 3 beeps - 1 beep - 4 beeps - 1 beep... dang... must have a problem with the floppy controller; re-working and re-configuring DOS commands and switches in config.sys and various batch files; putting down our tools and taking off our anti-static clips and pushing the power button one more time, hoping for the best...

Now, please use your genius to describe how I can get my 286 to work with Windows 7.

(ps. I can find lots of independent research on "the best" reg cleaners but not one of them decided to include your product in their comparisons. If you have truly compared your product to competitor's products and have evidence of your superiority, please publish your findings...)

Some have relied on ERUNT To back up the registry for many years. It should be noted that ERUNT does not support Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8.

Each time a program is introduced on GOTD that advertises any relationship to the Windows registry the comments posted on the forum are loaded with the recommendation to "back up the registry.". If someone has to be told to "back up the registry." Then they are probably not sophisticated enough to know how to go about that task.

With each GOTD offer of a program that makes changes to the registry with the intent of improving the computer operation there are at least 15 to 20 post saying the same thing. "Back up the registry." How many times does someone need to hear the same advice before they decide whether or not they will follow the recommendations being given in the comments section of GOTD? I suspect that not near as many times as they are subject to this information day after day. I believe that some of these post would better serve the public by explaining the steps needed to back up the registry of the commonly used Windows versions. Windows versions.

I know people that have used the Windows operating system for many years that do not know how to do a full backup the Windows 7 registry and then do a full restore of the data backed up? I would venture to say that there's a great deal of people that do not know how to perform this task. If you rely on the tools that are furnished with the Windows operating system you are going to be out in the cold when you try to back up the registry of any of the newer versions of Windows
strictly on tools and utilities that are supplied as part of the operating system.

#25 - I am not a pro PC tech, but I do know when not to trust a auto-funtion in any program !

There is always 200+ broken links in the registry that all REG cleaners find and do agree about !!! That is not something to be proud about, because those broken links is by the developer of the software not recommanded to erase !

OK. just for the hell of it I installed this baby. I will be calling "Come here, Rover",,,uh I mean "Revo".
Cpu monitor and memory monitor both come up with an "invalid class" notification. Disk monitor says "Error can't find any disk to monitor"
Even though the "System Status" view shows all five of my drives.

Evail update:

I am now being hammered by internet annoyances I used to have blocked. Also it didn't empty the Recycle Bin as instructed.
I hope the restore puts everything back like it was?

Evail:
Download & install smooth without farming.

Pros:
User defeatable first run restore point.
GUI - Clear & strait forward, provides a lot of important info without being cluttered, very friendly layout.
Seems to provide a lot of system info, even spotted a lockup problem I've been having.
Recommends free anti-spyware be installed; Microsoft Security Essentials = basically useless, MalwareBytes = exceptional.
Customizable temp file remover.
Customizable invalid & personal info cleaning with default reset.
Customizable MRU/History/cache/temp/log remover with default reset.
Customizable Registry cleaning with default reset.
Customizable Browser temp file cleaning 4 most popular browsers with default reset.
Customizable IM file cleaning 4 Yahoo & Skype with default reset.
Has 3 monitors for Multi-CPU, Memory, Disk.
Can create Desktop shortcuts to facilities that are not always available when you need them.
IE favorite validator & fixer.
Can create shortcuts to a ton of places usually not easily accessible. (Impressive)

Cons:
Says I don't have any anti-spyware installed. In fact I have;
IObits ASC5, Avira, Outpost firewall, Process Lasso = active.
MalwareBytes, Ad-aware, Spybot S&D = inactive, used 4 manual scanning.
All of these fall under anti-spyware in their own ways & do an excellent job, not sure why none are recognized?
Doesn't clean other popular IM's.
Would be advantageous to be able to see several selectable monitors on the same graph.
Also some other monitors like 'Page file' would be great.
Could create several other facility shortcuts not currently implemented.
Could use a favorites import/export capability plus other browsers are neglected.
File cleaning warning dialogs are miss matched and custom folder selection does not seem to be available.

Operation:
Default setting changes;
Removed .bak from temp file cleaning, I use this 4 safety backup when I make file structure changes.
Removed ticks from;
Invalid Start Menu shortcuts.
Autorun Startup Entries.
Delete Invalid Desktop shortcuts.
Clean Autorun Entries from Reg.
Explorer Unused file extensions.
Empty Cookies folder.
Added ticks;
Empty Recycle Bin

Running during scan:
25clips, Outpost, ASC5, Avira, Iconoid, iPoint, PerfectDisk agent, Process Lasso, Logitech Setpoint, TweakRam, MS uphclean plus all MS default stuff.

Results:
Log file:
Very clear & I believe complete about changes made & not made to system, although most paths are truncated.
Deleted numerous items either I preferred be left alone or thought I specifically told it not to touch. Prob mine or X3?
Unknown if damage occurred due to this, yet.
Identified & deleted items as obsolete that I believe were not.
Identified items I did not know were on my system & do not want on it. Tweaking may remove these?
Cleared or removed items I do not know if they are needed or important especially in HKCR, yet.
Deleted virtually everything in temp folders including all .dat files (also IE's index.dat files). Unfortunately some sloppy programmers leave stuff in there that are needed for program functionality. These 3 things will most likely be a problem.
Cleared or deleted HKLM's entries for some OS installed files and apps I am still useing.

SORRY! Will no finish evail. I was going to do a compare with ASC5 Deep scan & Glary Utilities (before & after a restore), but this cleaner has REACHED the POINT of NO RETURN with DANGEROUS changes for me.

Strange behavior:
Did 'Show Desktop' to get to text file I used to document this evail post and when I clicked on any shortcut X3 restored to my desktop, was an annoyance only.

Summary:
X3's GUI & settings are layed out very well and it is highly configurable. There is most everything 'of value' I could think of implemented. There were no conflicts with any running Apps. X3 is clear & concise about what it has done. It has several unique & valuable implementations that competitors have overlooked.
X3 is missing several capabilities that I feel are crucial to a system cleaner. It cleans things I told it not to, (could be my miss understanding). Has changed things I know will cause problems, (could be my lack of expertise in it's settings). Is very dangerous even for those with some savvy, let alone the general user.

I definitely do not recommend this cleaner @ this time and am uninstalling. However I feel it has the potential to become an industry leader & standard in the future.

I will be anxiously watching for that to happen. KUDOS Ultimate Systems and Romania

@57 Stefan is right about doing a FULL BACKUP. I would only add be sure it is a full IMAGE BACKUP using a program that can boot from something other than your non-booting primary OS boot drive. If you can't boot Windows you can't use it's built in restore points feature.

I use RegOrganizer from previous giveaway. Cleaners AREN'T just snake-oil. I've used many cleaners but RegOrganiser found like 1400 or so entries left on my Acer laptop after I removed the crapware clear.fi program other cleaners didn't. This one's a pass for me!

I've decided to stick with CCleaner. On the general subject of trying GOTD downloads, when choosing to uninstall a disappointing program, what precautions should I take to ensure that the registry is the same after uninstall as it was before installation? Any constructive advice welcome.

This software is HIGHLY TOXIC. It kept crashing when I tried to run it.I used "Full Uninstall" to remove it. Turns out it had made nearly 200,000 changes to my system. When I uninstalled it, it reverted all of system settings to factory default. It was only because I had a recovery point from yesterday that I was able to get my computer back to normal.

Whilst I appreciate your enthusiasm in participating in the conversation, I do not believe you that you know or that your Registry Cleaner knows if I want to keep the registry key or not. Consider users who re-install software, or consider the mere fact that no registry cleaner in the world knows all possible registry keys and more over the reason why they are there where they are or if they should be removed.
And YES, for sakes, unfortunately not to your liking, but your naïve pre-conception the end-user doesn’t know shit, so we remove any registry keys anyway doesn’t feel like I would ever trust such an aggressive method of registry cleaning.

And don’t crown yourself with willingly modified Microsoft statements and by placing your product underneath it as if your Registry Cleaner was recommended by Microsoft. That counts as false advertising.
More over, where is YOUR MCSD or MS Gold Badge???
Better stay with your feet on the ground and don’t flame me for putting facts straight.

good day / evening all

cheers

I think the main problem with registry cleaners is the inconsistency between programs. CCleaner is on all my machines and only finds (at most) tens of allegedly invalid entries, which I delete and have had no problems but another cleaner program I trialled came up with literally thousands of alleged problems and there's no way anyone can sit down and selectively go through THAT lot! Just who do you believe?

I downloaded this, started installing, then it asked to a key. No where in anything I was given with the download was there a key of any kind. It is supposed to be free, yet it does not include a key for installation? Does not make sense to me but ok. Cancelled the download and deleted the page from my favorites. This is the 5th time that happened and it was all on software that I wanted. I think I will just stick with CCleaner.

In looking @ the web site and especially the screen shots, it looks like a fairly comprehensive cleaner. Haven't tried it yet, so it's non-damaging efficiency is unknown.
So far all system cleaners I have seen are lacking a capability that would go a long way towards preventing damage/probs.
I would like to see a cleaner that does it's scans and provides a list of user selectable proposed change items.
I trust my own judgment as to what should or should not be changed. With a restore point I am safe to make mistakes while I learn more about my systems guts.

Does anyone know of such an animal. Recommendations would be very much appreciated.

If You DON'T know how to clean the registry MANUALLY then don't use these types of software !

If You will use it anyway create a FULL BACKUP (with 3rd party software - not Microsoft's backup) before You use these types of sotware, restorepoints aren't enough.

Not to spoil the fun !.
But Registry cleaners mostly leave you more in a mess than before you let the beast loose !.
Also if you want to go ahead try it on a virtual operating system, then you can see the damage that they do without destroying your computer . " Files wiped out essential registry files gone, programs no longer work, Need not to say any more !.
Good luck.

Registered three times in an attempt to get an email. None such, not in any folder. Proffered solution: Register with a different email. In as much as I don't use aliases on the web, I only have one email to register with, and its not yielding results.

No link to any help offered on registration page.

I have built custom systems, maintain, repaired PC's since days of Dos - 1980's.
I have used quality registry cleaners without an issue. Many times, saved doing a reinstall or rebuild on client's machine.
Sometimes, an unknowing click on what appears to be an innocuous site allows registry corrupting or boot sequence scrambling malware to run.

Very interesting to see comments which are not related to this program, like this:
------
...and defragmented a corrupt registry with another 5 percent improvement bonus....
------
First of all WinSysClean does not defragment the registry! Looks like someone have pre-made comments here, I also have seen an exact commment which we had received a year ago!

I also want to inform users that we make this program since 1998, that's 14 years of testing and improving ! This is not just "another" registry cleaner, it is one of the most accurate cleaners available and don't make comparations with ccleaner, we have analysed deeply ccleaner and it does remove important registry entries which should not be removed!

It's almost useless to present the user a list with 5000 registry entries and ask the user if the entries should be removed or not? because I bet 99.9% of all users don't know if a registry entry like this should be removed or not: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CertificateAuthority.EncodeDateArray.1\CLSID\{301F77B0-A470-11D0-8821-00A0C903B83C}

And that's why WinSysClean makes extensive analysis of registry links (because most registry entries links to other entries) and if it's something which is 100% safe to be removed then it removes the entry or else it will skip it.

Thanks !

Thanks to Peter Blaise for pointing out:
"Options say they will delete, not check, so when it offers to [ clean autorun entries from startup ], will it blindly delete everything or show me invalid entries, or show me all entries for me to decide on — scarry!

There is no warning or sense of forecast as to what it will do before clicking [ Start Intelligent SafeClean TM ] — will it delete what it wants to, or check and show me a results list for me to decide on?"

Guess I will pass on this one.
............................................
About RegSeeker.
I use it rarely and with great care.
It is powerful. Powerful tools are dangerous if used wrongly.
I think in RegSeeker, the "backup" is of what you deleted.
It is not a backup of the computer state or of the registry before you allowed the delete.
............................................

About setting Restore point before you try out any software that aggressively deletes stuff all over your computer.

Please note that a Restore point is not going to help you if:

a) your computer is so severely damaged by an aggressive 1-click wonder-cleaner, that it cannot even boot afterwards.
or
b) your computer is so badly damaged damaged by an aggressive 1-click wonder-cleaner, that Windows cannot operate anymore.

You may need a Macrium Reflect/Paragon/DriveImage XML/Acronis type of backup and restore.

Or you may need to reformat the whole hard disk and reinstall the OS.

I agree with most of the other comments here about registry cleaners being generally at best minimally useful, to at worst potentially harmful. What I'd like to add, is that a freshly installed windows OS does seem to run much faster/cleaner and error free than a several-years old install. I recommend re-installing windows every year or two as a great way to speed up your system.

I had an old XP system (an 8 year old PC) that I had given up on as too old to be useful. In desperation, I even tried installing linux, but it was still slow. I ended up re-installing XP and just a bare minimum of other necessary programs. Wow! The system now works great (given the limitations of the hardware), but is great for general web surfing, and other light tasks. I'd like to re-install my windows 7 PC but I'd lose a bunch of GAOTD software I've installed over the years. I still my do it as I know that the system will run much faster overall.

Anyway, my point is that re-installing the OS is a great way to get the registry (and the rest of the system) squeaky clean and fast, albeit time-consuming because of having to reinstall all your software (you'll also spend the first day or two restarting your PC over and over as windows slowly updates itself to the current version). Given that more and more programs are now just web based apps, the reinstall is not as time consuming as it once was. If I do reinstall my OS, I won't add any registry cleaners at all! It just takes one deleted useful registry entry muck up the system.

The first two times I tried to run this program, my system froze and I had to reboot using the Task Manager. The third time I tried to run it It (very quickly) ALMOST worked (luckily made a system backup and was able to restore); this product removed the registry keys of the games on my external drive (which was OFF at the time) but did nothing to the shortcuts for these games which are nested two levels down inside a desktop folder. It also killed the registry keys for my "Age of Empires: Rise of Rome" which is located on my C: drive. I use Glary Utilities and while Glary identified many of these as well (with the drive OFF) I was able to exclude them the first time and it has never identified them again. Superantispyware identified (wrongly) the the "Age of Empires" executable was a trojan downloader, but I was able to exclude that as well. This software needs to give that ability; I like to see what id going to be eradicated from my system (unless it CAN do this and in my haste overlooked it). I MUST give this a "Thumbs Down" for its destructive nature.

I don't know what I enjoy more, those who claim to have 20 years’ experience of dealing with PC's or all the cool software offered by GAOTD. Well, NR 17 seems to be the most realistic post I've seen. People claim these programs are "snake oil" or the vendor claims it will improve my PC's performance 130%. All I know, like NR 17, is I've used these programs from time to time and have not caused my PC to do a meltdown. I use Your Uninstaller to rid my PC of programs and it creates a restore point, and it cleans out the registry. I guess people who have been in the industry (like me) for over 20 years thumb our noses up at programs like this because it takes away some of our calls for help but what they (we) don't tell you is over time, your registry becomes so complex that one wrong move and your machine will die.. That in itself is a myth. You almost have to delete some pretty major entries to cause a non-booting system. With OS's being almost self-healing these days. Cleaning out your registry of all those non-used references to non-existent software that you removed long ago is no different than dusting your furniture. You don’t have to do it but it should be done from time to time. Just sayin.

Winutilities...There's a free version and a pro version. I've been using it for years without issue. For all of you claiming registry cleaner software doesn't work, my question to you is do you screw with the setup or run it straight out of the box? If you're tweaking the settings and it screws you up, it's on you so don't give the product a gig because you don't know what you're doing. Some files are not meant to be messed with.

This software was offered free at another website recently. I am NOT sure if it was GOTD. But it installed very quickly. I am not sure why people are having problems with the GOTD one. I use Windows XP. And it DOES have an uninstall option. For people not comfortable with the registry cleaning "option" all you need do is remove the checkmarks. That's what I did. The other options still come in handy.

2 months ago I downloaded and ran a reg cleaner from a different "giveaway" site. Besides a few surface bugs, it seemed to work. But a few weeks later when I ran Window's System File Checker (sfc), it reported several nearly system errors which I was unable to repair. Fortunately I had imaged my PC just days before installing the reg cleaner, so I rolled back my system by 3 weeks (!!!), and after rebooting, the sfc run reported "no errors". While today's software was not involved in this mess, I share this to stand beside others here saying reg cleaners, system optimizers may have affects that are unnoticed until your system weeks is beyond repair.

"Cleaning" the Windows registry is NOT necessary on modern computers. These programs seldom, if ever, "speed-up" your computer. They often do more harm than good.

If you don't understand the registry, leave it alone. You're unlikely to notice ANY difference, unless you (or your "cleaner/optimiser"), screws something up.

If you have some spare cash, buy yourself some more RAM chips. If you're the adventurous type, try programs like this and pray that they don't create problems you didn't have in the first place.

Remember the old axiom: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I always tinker. I use ccleaner works great, if I need deeper I use 360amigo, finds more errors. The other day someone on here suggested puran free. So I tried it, after a reg clean my browsers could not find the Internet! Careful!

I use Wise Registry Cleaner, Wise Disk Cleaner, and CCleaner. On the Disk Cleaner I have an exclusion on my email storage folder. It seemed to bugger that up every time so I put an exclusion. That's pretty bad. One time the Registry Cleaner found some issues, I went into the registry and changed the paths on a couple of files to what they should have been. The errors went away then. Generally one needs to find a registry cleaner they are happy with, feel safe enough using and as a wider preventative measure of course make a back up image of your system disk so you can drop the image back on if needed. I don't mean system restore, because if windows isn't working how can you use system restore? I'm not downloading this and not voting it either way.
