If you want to get video that is restricted to another region, sign up for a paid subscription to a proxy hosting service. Google the topic. Relatively inexpensive. That's the only way you'll be able to get that type of programming.

I know my comment comes the day after. But why is the main page all filled up with programs that I have not ever heard of?? Also, would like to know how long the episode is, and what it is about. Ooh, I like this ok, but it stills is lacking, and comes really short of what it could be.

Beides torrents, usenet is another good option to get TV shows etc.
Use the search engine binsearch.info to find show and get the nzb files, a downloader like binreader (free) and preferably a premium usenet provider like astraweb.com to download the files from. Your ISP may or may not provide free usenet access.

I would like to be able to use this but so much of it is dependent on living somewhere else.

I tried the search but unfortunately it just gave me anything related, not the episodes themselves. So it's in effect useless. It's much faster for me to just go to the website of the broadcaster and look for the streaming show there.

What's needed isn't more programs to download episodes, it's more outlets for episodes.

Ironically, it's coming out the same week that most of the US network shows are running their season finales.

I played with this a lot and found that it does some things well, but the live recorder specifically does not appear to handle netflix as it claims. One consistent problem I had was that is appears to install/activate a proxy (to force the video stream through the software) and the associated proxy server frequently fails.

Because it forces all web traffic through the proxy the software seriously impacts any type of browsing, and any hiccup or crash of the software may leave you with no browser-internet connection. Average users may not be able to troubleshoot or repair the 'surprise' proxy connection.

The 'proxy feature' should be clearly documented, and ANY failure should restore the original configuration.

If you don't understand this issue and how to fix it, I DO NOT recommend that you use this software.

Most of the popular TV series are just 'promos' not the actual shows. If you like 'immature' games and anime then this maybe for you! Not me though.
All the 'quality' stations are blocked.

IMHO a waste of time/space!

Why do these software companies insist on their own color "scheme" when the default Windows one looks very pleasing and is easy to read? Just something I've noticed of a lot of GOTD programs.

unless a software downloads a update list example: antivirus update list, there is no reason at all for a software to have a 1-year license.

since I', strictly using the English version.

Must have been some sort of conflict with the .NET runtime 2.0

Stll not a keeper for me.

Speaking as a UK resident, I have to say that I was very impressed by this program. I searched for comedy and other shows which have been broadcast on a variety of stations, some BBC and some commercial, and in generally found a wide selection available for viewing, download and conversion, even including radio episodes in some cases. I have tried to do this with other programs, but with limited success only with some BBC programmes and YouTube videos, so I know it isn't easy. There were some glitches in using the built-in player, but these of were no consequence as the files could easily be opened with other players.
If you are looking for material to download, this is an interesting and unusual program to try out. I would be tempted to buy the licence at the end of the year.

Downloaded and installed this software without any problems.

Since I usually use the search in a browser to watch and download shows online and have to look through their search results to find an appropriate site to view or download these shows, I thought that this software would save some time and perhaps recommend a few better sites to do this with.

Unfortunately, this software does the exact same thing any browser search bar, any search results in a browser, and any free plugin or download button can do. It is also more confusing and uses computer resources that could be better used, uses it's own browser to do this search without any better results, and would cost money to subscribe to or use for a year.

Save yourself some trouble, use the search bar in your browser to find some good sites and bookmark them to return to later. Firefox has free plugins to automatically detect and download videos (the recording link in this program at the top incidentally shows one of these free add-on icons called Video Downloadhelper, I use the NetVideoHunter add-on).

So in the end all I have to do to replicate this program is install the Video Downloadhelper Add-on from firefox, open my (already installed) browser and enter a program to search for, download it with the add-on or a download button to a folder on my computer and click on the downloaded file to play it. No complicated installs, no unnecessary extra software, no expenses, and much less trouble searching.

I'll uninstall this one, thank you GOTD for this offering. Looking forward to others.

Installed and immediately realized that all this program does is simply look for TV episodes on youtube and download them! and at a whopping speed of 70kbps.. I then tried to watch many of the UK live channels and all I got is "error: rtmp server requested closed" = needless to say it's now uninstalled and totally voted down. Absolute rubbish!

This seems to falter on many accounts:

#1 - free to use vs. for only 1 year - did they not read GiveAwayoftheDay premise???

#2 - there are numerous programs - some have been here, some are paid programs, some are free programs - which allow for downloading from various sites; these tend to work on many more sites than this one - and some even work on those sites which don't allow downloading.

#3 - the color scheme is so hard to read.

#4 - downloading from the internet for personal use and/or downloading those items which one is allowed to view and/or those items which are no longer in copyright and/or have always been available for viewing is NOT illegal. Those that claim illegality, tend to be those who are profiting by making these claims rather than considering the welfare of all.

I tried, then uninstalled this software. I was able to do a search by name for tv shows I would like to watch, but the results had many unrelated links mixed in. Also, every episode I tried to download to watch later was only a 3-4 minute snippet, but the snippet did seem to be of good quality and the program did a fast job of downloading it.

@36, If you look a little closer at the fine print in that link, you'll see that the thread is 2yrs old and her browser version is 3.6 (newest is 11.x I believe). I've been using Freecorder 4 for a while now and have never suffered from a hijack or any other problem from it. D/l's are clean, video is great, audio works just fine. I suspect that the user in the comment neglected to pay attention during installation and didn't un-click the appropriate boxes and that's how she got stuck with ASK. As for today's give away...To the Devs...really guys, when you say "episode" you are leading people to believe they are full shows and not clips. Now maybe it is your lack of an English speaking employee and maybe not but if you're going to market it as something that can do episodes, they need to be full versions and not clips. If you want to include or focus on clips then change your product description to reflect that. Also, your interface is a challenge to see well and I have glasses that are glare resistant specifically for computer use and I still had trouble with it.

Really disappointing collection of "episodes". As another poster mentioned, it's mostly anime, and gaming content, and some random short. As with almost every other such app I've tried, streaming fails on almost every source I tried.

Apparently there is a video file size filter in the options to avoid getting clips rather than full episodes. I didn't even bother trying this since I was unable to locate any full episodes that actually made a connection without throwing me a "10060 connection failed error". I even tried disabling AVG Resident Shield to be sure that wasn't the issue.

My best suggestions would be to first change the default video size filter to locate full TV episodes rather than YouTube clips.

Second would be to correct any direct streaming issues for watching live TV.

Third would be to focus on content from the major providers such as Hulu, Vimeo, and the major networks' FULL episode pages. YouTube is okay sometimes for older movies but isn't my first choice.

Ideally, the thing that makes these players helpful is giving me organization and a one-stop place to go to for all of my content rather than hunting the internet to find where certain episodes of a show is available.

From the top:
The purpose of GOaTD is expressed as providing the software provider with free betatesting at the expense of providing free copies to the testers (the mass of downloaders.) This is one of the few cases where the software is not ready for beta test, and may, in fact, not be ready for alpha. Just from the frustrated comments, the single, hard-to-read 'skin', and the lack of ability for the software to reliably connect (or give feedback when the connection isn't working) this needs a lot more work. But more important, it appears to be very poorly engineered from the get-go. The term "episode" can mean almost anything, and appears to have been taken to mean anything by the developers, while the customers (myself included) have a very different definition. Market research is more important where customer understanding is a significant component, not less.

"Almighty"? I do not think this word means what you think it does. From the web site, first sentence in the reason why you want this software: "Are you fretting to get an episode..." You (like many of GAoTD's software providers) desperately need an English-speaker to go over your text. And I do know what desperately means.

If you are providing a license which allows legal download of copyright material, then you are justified in a period-limiting license. No other reason justifies a 1-year license for such software, especially since places like Youtube change things every few months (if that rarely) to prevent downloaders from working. If you are not providing a license to copyright material, you are running an increasingly-real risk of jail time or monetary damages pay-out. I wouldn't want to be doing that in the current atmosphere, where the RIAA and Movie lawyers are shutting down web sites that only even point at file locations! Further, if all your software is /em intended /em to do is to download things that are legal and available on youtube or other streamers, a) you may still be violating copyrights, and b) you need to filter both broken (or unworkable) streams and be prepared to update your software as often as the streaming sites change their systems. The possibilities for financial reward in this business may be considerably smaller than you believe them to be.

However, if all you are doing is providing yet another broken downloader of Youtube free content, $40 is about $42 too much to pay for it.

So you need to rethink what you are doing with this software from the start. You need to determine what passes for an 'episode', and make that clear to your prospective customers (because one Cnet review will ruin you, otherwise.) You need to turn the lights on in the development room (because paying customers don't all use their computers in the gloomy dark and need screen displays that can be viewed in living-room lighting) and consider some more skins. You need to build your listings of 'episodes' with some kind of front-end test to limit displays to what you can actually deliver, with switches to turn off display of illegal, fragmentary or otherwise undesirable content which can be selected by the user, and add sorting abilities, both by context and by other determinants which are important to your customers (who you need to be more familiar with.) You need to reconsider your licensing scheme and the reasons why you would license in the first place.

Finally, I note that none of this is in the suggestion box because I have no desire for a license for this or any other software written with so little attention to the necessary details and customer needs as is demonstrated here.

This is a pretty decent tool (almighty tool?? Oh come on....LOL!!) which can be useful especially for those people (usually women) who are mad about thrash TV program like Soap Opera and/or Tv shows talking about gossip and other trivial things: so definitely not for me...LOL!

Anyway, for a more comprehesive video & audio recorder utility, my recommendation is to use a FREE GEM called "FreeCorder4":

This is an awesome FREE Video Downloader, Audio Recorder, Video & Audio Converter. It includes a FLV Player capable of recording WEB (streaming) AUDIO & VIDEO from over 1000 sites, saving them on the HD of your PC as you hear or watch them, by automatically creating MP3s files from ANYTHING you hear on your PC, including radio, worldwide TV channels and even Skype calls!!

Full amazing (video)Tutorial:

So as usual no need to pay anything!!!!

One year?

This is a one day download for me.

Although I like it when the developer chimes in, his comment sounded as though he knew there were going to be problems.

We're the guinea pigs I guess.

Also, why install the Microsoft NET runtime version 2.0577 when it's already instlled on most everyone's commuter.

It constantly freezes and you need to use Task Manager to end process.

Re #19 and his/her/its claims of illegality ... I don't know much, but one thing that I *do* know is that you shouldn't take seriously the legal advice that you encounter from some random stranger on the net. Regardless of what country you live in, it is highly unlikely that the media police are gonna come kicking in your door because you have tried this so -- like -- forget this fool. Of course, I suppose my warning about legal advice also applies to my comment as well so use your own judgment.

That being said, there are far better time wasters than this because, ultimately, that's all this is. Like every other one of its type that I've tried, it connects to nothing that I have found useful and is a far cry from delivering what is promised.

Pass on this one is my guidance.

Use torrents!
I download TV shows using RSS feeds with Outlook and get the torrent from "http://www.dailytvtorrents.org/". Just open the downloaded file with your torrent client to download the episode. For all TV Shows I like I added the RSS feeds and no worries anymore to miss a episode. Links are seeded well and even after 2-3 months you easily can download them. And all for free. Why border with this kind of software. Seems not useful.

This software sounds similar to a website that was shutdown for illegally pointing to torrent files of TV episodes. The site was seriously.com and for the last month the site was even up the only thing they had on the page was "Seriously.com is seriously in legal trouble." I would be wary of the legality of copyright laws with this software.
I am fairly risky with what I download, but I will not be trying this.

I'm in Australia, and missed an episode of Desperate Housewives, last week (Season 8, Episode 13). I can watch it on the local TV stations web site, but I need to download it, instead. (I have a whole season recorded on my PVR, and have not watched them yet. so don't want to spoil it, by watching out of sequence)
Would that episode be available with today's Giveaway ?
Does today's giveaway only connect to safe sites, or could we download a virus ?
If the answers to above are No(not available), Yes(may be unsafe), does anyone have some alternate advice for me ?
Thanks,

My response to this program is a simple word: torrents.

There are thousands of sites that offer torrents that you can download which help you connect to others who have what you're looking for and usually in better quality.

Mind you, using this or torrents, either is actually not legal. Just saying though, this the same as buy a CDrom that has "over 150000 games" on it. They're all a bunch of cheap games that will bore you or not work.

Having had time to download a large number 'episodes' ( I expected actual full tv episodes, silly me), out of 68 'tv episodes', all I got was ONE full episode, the rest were just mere clips ranging from 30seconds to 10 minutes.

I did a bit of a search (or is that research) and found that most of these downloads came from YouTube. So the question is;- 1- why would I download a software download programme to get what I can do by searching on YouTube site itself? and 2- Why pay for a licence (license)to do that?

My feedback (for the Dev)

Wont' be downloading, based on the comments today. Mostly because of the lack of mainstream "channels", - unless they can somehow be added to the software but it isn't an obvious feature.

The other thing is that I don't like the "1 year subscription" - I'm guessing that this means that it will stop working in a year's time.

The skin could do with a massive makeover. Also the search throws up too much of what you didn't put in search box.

I didn't find most of what I was looking for but overall a good clean video search engine.
just wondering is this legal or classed as illegal file sharing?

I have downloaded the program but will not install it unless I see some comments indicating that the program actuall works. So many bugs reported that it almost seems like a beta or even alpha version. So far it's a big thumbs down from me. I'll check the comments in the morning and at that point I will either install it and post a further comment or I will delete the download.
