More to the "floating point" error - had pound out that you do not have to go down to 96 DPI . The program can works with 107 DPI.

It is true that a free gift should not be blemished - take it or leave it but the discussion here is to help the ones that would like to use it and are not able to do so.

My criticism regarding this program is that it can convert TO many files types but only few FROM types. For example FLV and AVI which are quite common do not appeare in the FROM list.

I use the free SUPER convertor which can handle a long list of To and FROM.
It can checked here: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html.

@Rachel Thanks for the resolution to the 'floating point' error.

I'm a bit concerned at the quality of software that doesn't take this into account though. Glad I'm not paying for it, but for free... well...meh.

Anyone know how to get it to do a straight lossless DRM removal for video with this? My original video dimensions are not on any of the options for the output file.

To all the people who had the “floating point division by zero” problem. !!!!!

I had the same problem.
The FIX IS to change screen rsolution to 96 DPI !

I almost forgot why I came back here: I have now experienced three STOP errors in the last 24 hours and had to go back to my last known good configuration in order to boot up. Since coincidence is a poor alternative, it seems that one of these last couple of programs that I installed from here may be causing the problem, so I will likely be deleting them, but thought you at GAOTD and its users ought to know.

#177--at GAOTD, activation means authorizing setup to install it, while Registration means authorizing you to run the full version. Sometimes you are given a registration code to enter, but in this case, the setup (once activated) automatically registers itself. Translation may make the language even more confusing at times. Regarding reinstallation, a clean install deletes all previous programs, so if you want to keep any one-day freebies like this I suggest you try a repair install which is supposed to overwrite Windows files only and leave your data and programs as they were, although I would always backup all data before doing it anyway, since Microsoft warns that settings and data could still be affected. There are also ways to back up your settings to reduce the setup required for a new or repaired installation with software such as CA's Desktop DNA Migrator or even some free ones, just Google it.

I tried to read all of the comments so that I would be adding to the discussion rather than repeating old saws.

If you like Vista, you like Vista. *Someone* at MS thought it was a good idea. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it's great IF you bought a new computer with the right hardware and could figure out which version of Vista was right for your needs. Many who are unhappy feel that way because Vista requires more resources than XP (read: hardware upgrades) without providing perceived benefits.

There is too much MISINFORMATION and IGNORANCE about XP versus Vista going around to put an end to all of it. I'll try to put out one small BUT DANGEROUS fire typified by #114, who asks XP users what they'll do when XP support ends... Why, I don't know BUT maybe we'll have learned from Vista users, since Vista support is scheduled to end before XP support! LOL!!! XP extended support is through 2014 whereas Vista support is scheduled to end in 2012. That's TWO YEARS longer.

As for DRM...From what little I know, in order to remove DRM, most programs require that you have a valid license to begin with. That is, if you buy something that you can use legally, a license will be placed on your machine. DDMC needs this information to remove the DRM so that you can use the file elsewhere. Anyone who has acquired the file without the license will be unable to strip the DRM from it. The problem with DRM and the real benefit of programs like DDMC is that one way to have the files and no licenses is when you fry your motherboard, as happened to me in April. Without something like DDMC, all of the protected music I had (costing more to replace than the computer!) would be gone.

The question I wish someone had answered was whether DDMC will work with version 11.0.6000.0000 of DRM. If it does, I'd go so far as to say that it's essential! I've been scrupulous about staying at 11.0.5497.6285 on my own machine--even to the point of reconfiguring my new computer as soon as it arrived--so I can't test it myself. If I'd known that DDMC would work with 11.0.6, I'd have bought it and saved myself the trouble of "rolling back" the new machine. I also wouldn't worry so much about the possibility of having my DRM "upgraded", as Rhapsody tried to do.

The anti-Vista ranters go on and on.
Look - you couldn't afford to - why make it out as if you did through choice ?
And why is it so terrible to expect progs for WINDOWS to play on ALL versions of Windows ?
Besides which - in 90% of cases (like this one) right click/compatability/use as XP-administrator and they work fine

8.6.15

? what is the difference between 'Activation' and 'Registration'

The readme indicates Activation makes the program functional, yet the program has a Registration (top right) that requires an email address and registration code. That code is not included on the IE pop-up after running the 'Activation' extracted from the digitalmediaconverter (WinRAR ZIP, 3.87MB) file.

PS.
if one reinstalls Wxp pro sp2, is this program gone? Does backup of the Program files also save this program in case one has to reinstall the OS?

Personally I use Vista and I have never had anything other than very minor problems with software compatability, so I think people who are complaining about a lot of software not working on Vista, don't use Vista or they would know better...

Also it very rare indeed for me to have to resort to compatability mode to get a program to run under Vista.

Maybe if we all play nicely and XP users provide useful feedback, Daniusoft will PLEASE giveaway their new Vista compatible Digital Media Converter next month.

Neither XP nor Vista are worth getting your knickers in a twist. Just deal with what is now (Vista,) stop whining, or at least find another forum and/or make suggestions to the probably uninterested but appropriate parties for something better in the future.

As far as the DRM/music debate, over the years I've made repeat purchases of albums, 8-tracks, cassette tapes and then CD's which have either been made obsolete or have broken, or once were lost to a hard disk crash. Finally there are ways to replace music that you've already paid for...often more than once.

Software says "1. Remove DRM such as DRM WMA, WMV, M4A, so that you can convert DRM protected music without any restrictions." however, none of my DRM files will convert. First it wanted to update my windows media player, then it said that I do no have the rights to the songs & it gives an error for every DRM file. Anyone else have this issue?

Don't know about this one, I know when I first started coming here twice I messed up and ran the setup first and ended up with unregistered versions. I was able to correct myself before the giveaway time ran out on 1 and lost the other and was told because of the procedure wasn't followed. But you are half right because not all giveaways are that way. Still better not to chance and just follow the txt directions.
Just to add in here the Wondershare DemoCreator given away last week actually was the opposite. The txt file instructed to run setup first, A few people noticed and commented on it that day that it was the first time that was ever seen.

I am currently running this program on Vista...easily. Here's how:
-Unzip the file you downloaded from GAOTD
-Run Activate.exe like you always do for GAOTD
-Right click on Setup.exe and choose 'Properties'
-Go to the 'Compatibility' Tab
-Check the box next to 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:'
-Make sure the drop down menu says 'Windows XP (Service Pack 2)'
-Click OK.
-Run Setup.exe. This should install the program as expected.
-Using the desktop link I chose to create through the setup program, I run the program which seems to open and run fine.

Vista may be evil, but on occasion, you can get it to work. Good luck ya'll :)

To #130 (bubblepopper)
your statistics are wonderfull and gave me a chuckle.
I am so glad you are happy with Vista.
I come to GOTD to enjoy peeking at new products and in the past years have bought two that were GOTD free offers. I dont care if you think Vista is better or not. I think a minority of people have the same view that you have...your local store serves you with one flavor of MS and you get used to it. Those who have older computers with less power cannot do with the pains Vista brings with it....why should I buy a new computer that does not support my scanner or my printer. I have my original disc of XP to always fall back on and I have yet to see any large companies migrate to Vista. It simply is not compatible with too many applications that are critical it company daily operations. When costs are figured up and change is in fact needed, you will see many more migrating away from MS and heading for Linux flavor or Mac.
By the way, my Commodore64 with its 1200 baud Zebco202 modem just does so much better than Vista ever could. :-)

Oh...and great giveaway today. No problems loading it on XP home. And it is user friendly. This is a keeper.

#155 - Windows 7 is not going to be Vista in disguise. Ha ha! Where did you get that idea? What night class? You teach knitting there? I got an XP computer and it ain't a cheap laptop or an expensive custom desktop. It's just not Dell or HP, those MS suckers (HP's worst - won't even provide non-Vista drivers even though the HP laptop DIDN'T come with Vista.)

Windows XP was not Windows ME in disguise, was it? This is history all over again. Judging by what's there in Windows 2008, Windows 7 would be more of that just like XP was to 2000 and not was to ME.
And why the heck does this go on to become a discussion about Vista? The system requirements already said no Vista! I don't see Mac of Linux users complaining that it didn't support their OS. And you think there are none of them here? There must be some Windows 98 users here too, after all, some of the software here can still work in 98.
Well, I don't see Linux there and I use Linux but I don't complain "This is shit this don't support Linux"! I can run it in an XP virtual box. So, if you use Vista, then get an XP virtual box and stop your frigging whining! Or at least, learn about the feature in Vista to run things in XP compatibility mode... that's not a new feature. It has been there since XP first release. Sigh... Why is it that people take driving lessons before driving a car but don't bother to take proper computer lessons before using one?

why there are few software support Vista? Microsoft release Vista is really bad this time.
As I found the Daniusoft WMA MP3 Converter support Vista. I purchased the update version, and asked their customer service for help with Vista.
They said next month it will support Vista and Apple (M4P, M4V, M4B) DRM protected files.
Wait for the upgrade!

Greetings:Since I was familiar with Daniusoft Media Converter I decided to try this product. The colour change on the face of the software that appears on the computer is very disconcerting. It is way too dark. I found it difficult to operate, it is too dark for my taste. I loaded some music I wanted to work on and unless you choose to purchase this then you can only make changes of up to one minute. When you offer something for a free make it completely useable. I would give more consideration to a useable product than to a setup like this. DUMB!! If it is only one minute of music fess up and say so. Don't waste my time.

Sincerely,
L.Darwent

installer ran on my vista buy using compatibility mode for XP sp2
then run in compatibility mode..

And as for the guy ranting about DRM and being insulting...

I have no problem with paying someone for their work.
I have a big problem with paying for music download from the legal outlets and then two weeks later for some random reason it starts saying I don't have the rights to listen or watch it on the same device I used to purchase it..
I have this nice library of stuff that refuses to run for that reason..
I've been hanging on to them in case I found a way to fix it..

You are spouting the same thing that bugs me about the copy right laws they are talking about right now.

A while ago in Canada. they were talking about putting a few percent tax on anything that can store music.. cards Cd's DVDs..
Sure I can understand that
Except for two problems.
First it pre convicts Everyone of theft.
And second.. They have passed that law every 5 or 6 years since home vcr's first came out..

So take a guess at how many times Everyone in this country has been convicted of theft under this law and fined repeatedly.
even if you never us them for anything else then saving your email..
Also they don't remove the old one when they bring in a new one they just add it on.

Hell even the artists get it cause if they buy a cd to save their work on..
Opps you were just convicted of theft pay your fine...

Oh and the other about those laws that bugs the hell out of me..
The money doesn't go to the artists it goes to the government.. I've never yet seen a press release from an artist saying thanks to things like the riaa for giving them money...

Maybe someday we will get lawmakers that think rather then just take bribes..

Oh I'm sorry Campaign contributions from concerned citizen groups.

Can anybody read? The only way to buy an XP computer is on a cheap laptop or a very expensive desktop custom ordered. you are wrong about which system is going to be supported longer.
Fact is, it's Vista as Windows 7 is essentially going to be Vista in disguise.
I'm new here but if you need reading or surfing lessons, come to night school where I teach.
Please end this stupidity. This site is about software given free each day, not the hows or whys nor who likes what operating system more. Give the publishers a break & comment on the offer, not an operating system. At the high school where I teach, we have already upgraded to new computers with Vista Business and everybody loves them (students & teachers alike) due to such an increase in productivity.

People who are familiar with Windows Vista are two to three times more likely to have a favorable impression.

I'd like to meet these people in person because I personally have never met a Vista user who is happy. Vista is just absolutely terrible. From its not compatible with anything compatibility to its terrible user interface to its horrible security issues to its DRM issues to its............

I also suggest people try Vista but make sure you have a copy of XP on hand to install after you've checked out this pile of crap that was packaged as software.

@Messenger #148:
"there is a register button. When you click on that a box will open and you will see it say “Digital Media Converter Has Been Registered.” Just above where it ask for your email."
You're right about that, I did only look for the screencaption.
Activating or setup first doesn't matter in this GAotD.

Correction to #134 (though it is still true you can check this way):
"@Adam #109:
“To see if it’s activated, click on registered, and it should state that it’s been registered.”
It does not state it’s been registered at all, it just does not show it is UNregistered.
The name of the registerscreen is “REGISTER”, you might be confused with that."

Sorry Adam I didn't see it.

Activating or setup first doesn't matter in this GAotD.

DRM doesn't protect the artists, and especially doesn't protect them from piracy. DRM makes people buy more music that they already own so the the RECORD LABELS can get more money for selling the same music twice.

Here's a good place that explains how DRM screws people over.

http://blog.wired.com/music/2007/02/how_to_explain_.html

The majority of money that artists get from their music is not from royalties on their albums, it is from their concerts and Television gigs. Most of the money for the albums goes straight to the record labels. Who should go die, IMHO.

And what if I want to format my hardrive? I'd have to back up my music on a removable disk, then put it back after the format. Then, a year or two down the road, I need to format again. I put the music on a removable disk...then when I try to move it back - its 3 strikes and DRM no longer lets me use my music.

I PAID FOR IT!! When i buy an album, it is mine. You can't let me listen to it 3 times then cancel my album...

Not to mention DRM just screws people who get their music by paying for it - MOST music that is transferred to users is done so through torrents, gnutella, or other file-sharing. Which means that most of the music that is pirated doesn't have DRM...

I say screw the record labels and let the artist sell their own stuff with a manager or something...and just raise the price of their concerts and television gigs.

Attention VISTA Users. Hope this helps.

On the Giveawayoftheday web page find the little pictures of hands with the thumbs pointing up and down. The thumb pointing up is to the left of the thumb pointing down. So the thumb pointing down is to the right (remember this you will need it later). Now under the pictures of the thumbs you will find some letters that are lined up in this order “s y s t e m r e q u i r e m e n t s”. To the “right” of these letters (If confused remember the little thumb pictures, the down thumb is on the right side) if and only if you see these five (5) letters (must be in the same order) “V” “I” “S” “T” “A” then feel free to install the software that is being offered today. Remember all 5 letters “V” “I” “S” “T” “A” must be present. If you do not see these five letters then look for a “X” on border around the open web page. This “X” will be in the upper right corner of the border (If confused remember the little thumb pictures, the down thumb is on the right side). I assume you understand the difference between up and down. When you find the “X” in the upper right double click it and all your problems will be fixed. Hope, I was not too technical, Just trying to help you understand.

If you guys ran activate.exe first then ran the setup.exe it should be registered. When you go to run the program check in the top right hand side there is a register button. When you click on that a box will open and you will see it say “Digital Media Converter Has Been Registered.” Just above where it ask for your email.

@bubblepopper #130:
So you're into statistics. But what is your source? A Microsoft-marketing and promotion flyer? We now they are pushing vista OEM's on new pc's at great price reductions. Quality will cost you a bit.

Here is a source for you, independent and up to date, what to think about that?

I'll echo what others have said. This prgram looks worthwhile. I hope you'll give us another look at it when the authors manage to get it to work in vista.

Is there any way this can be used with Vista? It sounds like a useful program.
