These type of utilities are dangerous. I made a full system backup before trying it. After using Glary Utilities to clean up my system, my anti-virus software was turned off. No big deal since I just turned back on. A bigger problem was that one of my programs would not longer run. I tried Windows restore point but I still had a problem. Fortunately I did the full system backup. I restored the back and everything was ok but I cant' trust Glary Utilities.

Thanks GAOTD!! Downloaded it, installed it and registered it without a problem... Changed the background, changed the appearance, the font, font size, sound of typewriter to water drops instead of the usual "click, click, click", all without a glitch! Then I tried to turn the music on... and every time I chose one of the titles...the program shut off... DARN (&$·(/&%$) and it was going so well!! Uninstalled... reinstalled in hopes of getting it to work... no dice!! I have Windows XP 32 bit. Any suggestions Glarysoft????

Have used Glary before and it was good then. Updated to this version & I think it's even better than before. Found all sorts of junk - and it was really junk- that I needed to delete. Love this version even better than the old; I think it works faster. Great product. Thanks, Glary & GOTD!

I have used Glary for years, it has helped much and caused no problems.

Hadn't been paying attention to GAOTD for awhile, but by pure luck revisited it when Glary was up again.

I write however because as soon as I downloaded / installed Glary, I picked up some bug called "Software.Informer". It was quite intrusive, did not ask me first or give any notice until in operation. Basically it only lists a handful of software already on your PC and proposes that you need an update on some.

As I found and others online note, however, these "update" flags appear to be fake, because they are years out of date themselves.

So I uninstalled it, but then found its .exe file still on my registry.

I think this came either from Glary or GAOTD because it prominantly displayed both, in an advertisement to visit today and get Glary for free. This was even though I had just installed Glary.

So beware.

I installed Glary Utilities Pro. I opened the program, activated it, yada yada yada.... I looked around the different tabs, etc. to see what it can do and see if I should persue the tasks ahead of me tonight. Without using any of the utilites I tried to close it. It gave me the following error message:

Glary Utilities PRO: Integrator.exe - Application Error... The instruction at "0x40008e48" referenced memory at "0x2720656c". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

Well I have clicked "OK" 2 dozen times and it won't close the error message. Seems I will have to reboot to get rid of it. Anyone else have a similar problem?

I checked Glary homepage and found zero on the subject.

I am a longtime Glary Pro user. Nice features and tidy interface. I love it.

I decided to upgrade to this version today, and the installation - registration was very easy: run setup, run activate, after activation, allow programme to start.

10 out of 10 in every way. GREAT STUFF!

Thanks Glary Software!
Cheers.

I have used Glary for years - excellent program.

That being said, as several folks pointed out (some with a rather silly amount of fear mongering):

If you use this and don't have a clue what you are doing, some (but not all) of the utilities will mess up your system. I'd say the "1 click maintenance" is very safe. But if you go wandering around the registry chopping and slicing (WITH ANY PROGRAM) you had better at least have a good back up... And maybe even that won't do much on a real bad day.

That being said, using the parts that you can understand, it is a great, powerful, and not real dangerous program.

Hi, I have noticed one bug, that I didn't see noted, sorry if I am repeating. I have installed this on my 5 year olds computer, and did it under my superuser account. but when I went into the 5yo account, I could not run the program. I went to activate, and ran it, it said it was successfull, but the program will work on my account, not my 5 yr old. which may not be a big deal ultimately.

thanks Tobie

Personally rarely use the GOTD products since one is sol if one has to reinstall Windows down the road. I use free utils that do not have this type of restrictions on their use.

More options than I can review in a day but 1-click maintenance worked great. ONe option that I can't get to work is the Registry Defrag which consistently fails with message "System cannot move the file to a different drive" after choosing the option to proceed with the defrag.

post 36 is all you need, I went to glary site, and got the portable version, then the other site and got the key, and now portable is the pro version , with "never expire". or you can get the latest installed version. both can be saved on external drive so if your comp crashes, or you get a new computer etc.

Downloaded and installed with no problems on Win7 64 Ultimate. I had an earlier version installed but it did not update automatically. I still had to run activate.exe. After that it stopped showing up as a 30 day trial. I only ran 1 module, the shortcut fixer. I changed the default to my entire c drive. It found a lot of errors. Didn't have time to check them all so I only deleted the ones I knew were safe. It does send them to the recycle bin, so you will be able to recover them.

Downloaded and installed this update to my Win7 Ultimate computer and ran it. Like the previous version it seemed to find many registry issues. I let it go ahead and fix the issues it found and it seemed to work.

Unlike #10 above, I could not just update the version I already had installed. Tried that twice and each time I restarted it told me there was an update to 2.41 available. When I uninstalled the previous version and then installed the new upload a Start Menu folder did not exist. There was a Glary Utilities program listed in the start menu which I pinned to the start menu so that it wouldn't be lost. There's now no uninstall available in a start menu fold like before.

Love this prog! Been using the free version on a Win 7 64bit machine which it has done great at keeping it running smoothly. 2+ years now and my pc keeps humming along without needing a re-installation. I've wanted the Pro version but have been too broke to get it. It's fair to say my pc is as stable as the day I bought it and I credit Glary as one of the tools I use to help keep it that way.

As for the PORTABLE VERSION of Glary Utilities (v 2.41.0.1358), it looks like it’s already FREE on SOFTPEDIA without the need to insert any KEY LICENSE:

Thanks so much for this excellent "Give Away of the Day". I originally had the free version installed, but uninstalled it because of its limitations.
I then went to TuneUp Utilities...had too many problems with it.
Glad to be back with the Glary Suite. Works excellently and no problems with the download or the activation.
Thanks again, much appreciated.

Follow-on to prior comment regarding Windows Update: System Restore removed the Glry 2.41 update. After rebooting, I reinstalled 2.41. This time Windows Update was not turned on, so Glary may not be to blame.

First of all, rhanks to those who responded to my request #38.

By no means am I an expert and I do appreciate professional reviews, but I am also very "resistant" to emotional exlamations. That’s how I am after almost 20 years with Windows. Sorry!

Having read that pile of enthusiastically positive reviews, I decided to give the programme a try on my XP SP3 8 GB RAM 4 Ghz machine. And now I want to share with you an experience I’ve just had with Glary’s soft offered today.

Installation/Activation was smooth. The software looks really extremely clan and easy to use, but is it the most important factor? For me, it’s more convincing to see, how it actually works. Is it that convincing to see an impressive number of entries the programme marked invalid in the registry, or is it important to find if the entries were really invalid?

First, I tried the uninstaller which was set to uninstall a small programme I had installed a few minutes before the try. The uninstall was so quick that I could hardly believe the programme could read the whole registry meticulously enough. When I searched the registry for "remnants" (just the name of the uninstalled programme) I found quite a lot of entries there (not only in the MUI sections). So far, so "good". But I am not an expert. May be, they should be left there.

I decided to carry out another check, i.e. how good Glary is in cleaning the registry upon uninstalling itself. I ran Glary uninstall app. and then set Revo Uninstaller to find Glary remants. It found 14 keys and 45 values.

In order to make my statements credible I enclose the screenshot of the results displayed by Revo Uninstaller Pro which you may find at the following addresses:

https://rapidshare.com/files/2284241334/Glary1.jpg
https://rapidshare.com/files/1538830121/Glary_2.jpg
https://rapidshare.com/files/3086965591/Glary_3.jpg

If that’s what a programme claiming to manage perfectly the sensitive areas of the system (registry, file systems etc.), leaves behind itself, then... I leave it to you to draw your own conclusions from this finding. I won’t encourage you to use any alternatives (even that Revo casually mentioned above) as that’s not my intention at all.

GAOTD deserves thanks for their service, as usutal.
Regards

Re: the program opening as a trial version. I had to run the install as an administrator (Win XP), so I did "Run As". Now, if I just click on the desktop shortcut, it opens as the (expired) trial version. But if I right-click the shortcut and "Run As" the same admin that installed it, it opens correctly.

@ #91, Mikieh : You hit the nail squarely on the head in that post. I have friends who think a computer is 'intelligent' and, worse, computer software is 'intelligent'. That's a dangerous myth to perpetuate and especially when it comes to optimisation software -- as if, somehow, it is an inquisitive and careful being which flits through your computer looking for problems to fix.

But it ain't. It's just a piece of software which performs according to the specific criteria of its individual developer.

In your case, CCleaner performs according to a criteria which has resulted in the exclusion of 384 items from its delete list.

But Glary has performed according to the criteria of its developer, and "found" hundreds of items which CCleaner decided to leave well alone.

Who're you gonna trust? It's your choice. Nobody can tell you what to do because nobody's computer will be exactly like yours. Just remember though: the optimisation software -- no matter who it's from -- that "finds" the "most" is anything but the wisest or safest app to use. . .

* Perhaps you *really* ought to re-read DataPost's insightful comment at #67 -- his / her experience of having to 'unfix' computers after they've been 'fixed' by reckless users is by no means unique.

Since I installed the new version of Glary Utilities and subsequently rebooted, my computer became very slow. It appears that Glary caused Windows Update to turn on which caused a process wuaudt.exe to run and cause the slowdown. If you have this problem, open the Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and go to the process tab. Check to see if wuaudt.exe (or wuaucit.exe) is running. If so, turn off Windows Automatic Update [in XP: Control Panel-Security Center]. If Update is ON, turn it OFF, reboot and see if the problem is solved.

I didn't use this...instead I used System Restore to restore before the latest Glary install. I will not try to again reinstall the latest Glary and see what happens.

Only one (rightfully IMO) negative review (#79), so I'll add my own ...

Just a very quick look ... no time, so no real substance ...

Lots of utilities that do ... what? No a whole lot IMO. Are they best of breed? No. Then what's all the noise? A bunch of utilities that are not impressive on their own & not impressive lumped together & don't really accomplish much of anything worthwhile.

Think people. And use your head.

This version has been available for free for at least a month from this site

http://www.mostiwant.com/blog/glary-utilities-pro-free-download-with-serial-license-key/

The license key (called registration key on above site) also works for the current portable version and can both be saved for future re installation. You can also use your own name in the registration.

For those who are interested in the difference between the Pro and the Free version it isn't much. It's more about the convenience of scheduling scans and optimizations. Considering that there is no Tech support according to the guidelines here, I've had second thoughts about even bothering to install this one. What's the point of giving away a "pro" version of a program here when there's very little to speak more of it as opposed to the free version?

@ #86 I did the installation and as always start the program and then without performing any tasks or attempting to do anything I close it and then run the activation. In the many years of coming here I have never had a issue. I am not sure what happened to you but it wasn't caused by software - it was operator error.

To the many who have posted about a 30 day trial limit - back away from the computer and go back to pen and paper. This is as easy as it gets. You should not download and attempt to us GU - there will be a problem.

If you are a novice or do not have a clear understanding of how the Windows Registry works or how to manually edit it - DO NOT attempt to use GU or any one click Registry cleaner - again there will be problems.

One last thing - it is bad business practice for any software company to offer their product free for a year. They should offer it for a month at the most and if you like then you should buy it. Way too many free loaders around here. If you download software and use it regularly then don't be a cheapskate do the right thing and BUY IT!!! I always pay and support the good software companies.

it was one of the first tools able to clean the windows 7 registry and it kept that nice behavior. i have never had a program that works this well without useless functions like tune up utilities.

this program works fast, efficient and is still a nice choice for those who don't really know what they do.

Looks like a nice utility with lots of tools and it does have some similarity to WinUtilities. I found one problem with it though regarding the System Information tool. I've got a 4GB Ram laptop and Windows 7 sees that 4GB memory. It reports 4GB but Glary's System info says it only has 2GB memory. I know with certainty I have 4GB so the program is in error on that function.

Don't run auto unless you are sure it won't find any wanted files in temp etc folders that you hadn't got round to saving. e.g. unzipped files when you've zapped the original..
Ran registry cleaner and found 145 invaled entries. ran repair was told 145 entries cleaned. Ran again found 17 invailid entries, repaired and ran again found 2 more entries which it won't clean. Must run the other registry cleaners to find what it left behind.
ran junk file cleaner and clears stuff from tempfiles which windows XP SP3 doesn't clean and can't be deleted as used by another programme. Deletes cookies. To check if all cleared run search from start for all file and folder names containing @ in filename, Be careful some of those may be wanted downloads. Delete cookies (usually listed as 1K txt file) and clear recycle bin.

Jumped on this one as soon as it came up because of all the good ratings throughout the years but ended up disappointing when compared to JVPowertools 2012 or Ashampoo Winoptimizer 8. It ignored over 700 registry entries and found only 1 program that started with windows when I have 6 (Mamutu, Comodo, Winutilities,Hometypist, Soluto, and Winpatrol). I have been using JVPowertools and Winutilities, and have compared many of these programs. None of them have ever had any problems seeing startup programs. I have always used at least 2 base programs that I know are trustable (and don't add bogus entries to amaze), and have used for many years (like jv16, jvpowertools, ccleaner, ashampoo etc...) to compare with.....well maybe next time...

Two things about this giveaway in general:

For those who had the free version installed before this giveaway, it's really nice that GotD had a separate "Activate.exe" program so you don't have to reinstall the main program.

What's the difference between the freeware and PRO version? I can't find that anywhere on the Glarysoft website!
