I don't think Aviosoft 3GP Video Converter 3.0 can worth $29.95, with the same price, i'd rather get a professional video converter, such as snowfox total video converter from www.mac-videoconverter.com ,or any video converter etc, both of them provides lots of powerful function that Aviosoft 3GP Video Converter doesn't have.

After all that, it doesn't work. iTunes tells me that the file cannot be transferred to my iPhone.

I'm stumped again at the 11th hour...

link for setup from today's and activate from yesterday's giveaways won't function and only gives me error message that cannot connect but try again later. This is under the AverZip unpacking program?

Any help would be deeply appreciated. I'm at a loss.

#20:

As for MKV, I do not see why I should unpack (very unproductive, high consumption of time and other resources) the container in order to convert it. Format Factory, for example, has no problem whatsoever decoding this format.

Whether ffmpeg in embedded into the software is not relevant. You may have noticed software asking (or not) to download other apps while installing (such as .NET, versions 1 to 4!). Other have this or that be a pre-requisite. Any video software could do the same with ffmpeg. ffmpeg files are spilled all over the computer ---Format Factory is no exception, whole folder is a whopping 111 MB of which only 9.8 are specific to FF, help not included! Moreover, Windows has hard links since XP but almost never used whereas it's very common practice under Linux. I believe that many, many software authors are good only to reinvent square wheels. Bad software design seems to rule. Aggravating, they ask money for it! Actually, they, like Aviosoft here, charge for full access to ffmpeg's options...

FYI, I already have an ffmpeg folder always kept up-to-date, for command line jobs. This because I found creating batch files instead of running x or y was the best way to convert in some instances (e.g multiple files within a folder).

It's the logical conclusion of video converting. Like everyone, I started by knowing nothing, so in the beginning I resorted to soft like SUPER (among many other output formats it does 3GP). In fact, I haven't used it in a while because among its defaults, it kills the touchpad driver. Which I hate.

Many thanks to Andy and Bob (#17 & #18) for pointing out the fact that this is a one-way video converter, and to a super low resolution format useless for anything except cell phone video display. Other free converters already handle .3gp, so what's the point with this?

This begs the question, WHY would anyone ever bother adding subtitles to a video where the subtitles will be practically impossible to read? The trim, merge and especially crop functions are a good idea, and I can really see why someone might want to crop a video being displayed on a 3cm screen!

This is what comments are for. Provide info and ask questions when such info is absent.

People who ask, prompt the developer and others who know the program to provide clarifications useful to all prospective downloaders.

Moreover, they usually ask very reasonable questions that many others also have.

The developer should also be interested to know what customers want to know.

Last but not least, they often mention alternative comparable freeware, good to know and sometimes better.

What is really senseless is telling them to buy a PC and do their own testing when they can get the answers by just asking here.

In conclusion, they do no harm but can do a lot of good and I wish they are not put off asking by such pointlessly negative remarks.

The software is great! I’m not big fun of “space invaders” games, but this one is amazing! Small idea for developers: I enjoyed hilarious “briefing” texts, but I felt like there are too small of them. So, probably, it’s possible to make more of them? Like, even without changing number of levels – make this texts more frequent?

#5: "This software can crop, trim and merge videos and these are not available features in format factory. I intend to use these features for editing MPEG videos, convert them to 3GP then reconvert them back to MPEG formt using format factory or iwisoft free video converter!"

FWIW you'd be much better off coming up with another workflow -- what you're proposing would be a little bit like taking a wallpaper image, converting it to a thumbnail, & then expecting that thumbnail to look good once you enlarged it back. It's not just extra work, but you've thrown out a lot of the original data.

As far as free & low cost alternatives, there's a good selection at videohelp.com, GOTD often has video converters that do the same thing, but output a variety of formats, &/or you can watch for giveaways from the devs themselves, e.g. I've seen more than a few from companies like Wonderfox & WinX.

* * *

#8: "WHY have a combo box to select PROFILE SETTING if there is only 1 setting?"

#9: "I will even post it... “With this converter you can convert DVD, HD, SD videos to desired video formats"...”

Some companies release different versions of basically the same core software, in this case a video converter, so they can offer customers who don't need/want all the features an alternative at a cheaper price. The description kevin [#9] quoted for Aviosoft Video Converter 4.0 [advertised above] is I think an example, with that converter being a higher priced option than today's GOTD.

#14: "Does not support MKV. What a pity!"

A lot of software doesn't -- there are apps like MKVCleaver, one of several that use mkvtoolnix, & they let you take the video out of the mkv container & put it inside another one, like avi.

"What really bothers me. In the folder installation, there is another version of ffmpeg, mencoder, mplayer... Every video converter has its own version of ffmpeg/mencoder/mplayer... Note that all this stuff takes up to 45.6 MB... As ffmpeg/ffdshow/mencoder/lame/… are used by every video converter, there should ONLY one library for all..."

Ffmpeg is popular, but it is by no means universal -- some apps use it, many don't. There are apps that do use ffmpeg in a more stand-alone form, rather than integrating it into their code, so if that's what you prefer use one of those -- videohelp.com has several listed, like Avanti, as well as ffmpeg compiled as a stand-alone app. Unlike *nix there's nothing to install actually -- you put ffmpeg into a folder & tell whatever front end where you put it. As far as some of these video conversion apps taking up a lot of space on your HDD, you're right, many do, & you can try minimizing their footprint by running them through the free portableapps.com AppCompactor... it doesn't matter whether the app you're compacting is portable or not, it has various settings you can play with, & generally the total size of a converter will be cut in half. Do back up that folder first though, & do test the results thoroughly of course before you delete that backup.

"Product uninstalled. Better off using SUPER for 3GP since I already have it."

ummm... If you already have Super installed, then you'll likely do no further harm by using it. Super's not bad, though it can be confusing to use, but importantly installing it may or may not mess up video handling in Windows depending on what else you have installed. In a nutshell Super installs codecs & related files that can take the place of what you already have installed, & that can break other apps &/or the way Windows handles video. I think it a bit ironic to complain about Aviosoft 3GP video converter using a single key, but recomending an app like Super with a MUCH higher impact, including to the registry, as an alternative.

Tried this on Windows XP..

Pros:
- Nice feature is you can download youtube videos with it for conversion.

Cons:
- Fails to convert any YouTube videos when changing settings.
- Only one pre-defined "3GP" setting,which can not be modified,or changed.
- Can NOT add more setting profiles.

Verdict:
- Use some of the Freeware applications mentioned earlier, they are better. :P
- Certainly not worth $29.95. Max $5 if anything.

I suggest you follow your own advide and read what the product actually does.
I'll even post if for you to save you scrolling up:

Formats supported as >>>input<< include: RM, RMVB, AVI, WMV, ASF, MPG, MPEG, MPE, M1V, MPV2, MP4, DAT, 3GP, FLV, MOV, VOB etc.
Output is limited to 3GP only,I actually tried the software out.

do almost any job on a video.

Does not support MKV. What a pity!

Single click video conversion is a no-brainer: the output is of the very same quality as the input. I wanted to see whether this was implemented or not. I haven't been disappointed: it is not.

Only one profile allowed, with limited parameters. Language only for the some world order: English, Chinese, Portuguese.

What really bothers me. In the folder installation, there is another version of ffmpeg, mencoder, mplayer (renamed dvdplayer), lame et al. Every video converter has its own version of ffmpeg/mencoder/mplayer. The version installed here is very old (SVN-r21231, Jan 2010).

Note that all this stuff takes up to 45.6 MB. The whole installation is 59.7 MB, which means the interface weight 14.1 MB (there is no help file), while memory usage is 152 MB. Not very light.

As ffmpeg/ffdshow/mencoder/lame/... are used by every video converter, there should ONLY one library for all. It already works this way with Adobe Flash Player and Java. Ditto in Linux with standard libraries.

Also, although there is a "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Aviosoft\3GPVideoConverter" folder, registry is used. IMO this is a failure of Windows. Software should never use the registry, there are .ini for that (Aviosoft already uses a config.ini). At least, registry isn't messed up. In the registry, there is a key TempFolder and guess what? Instead of putting %TEMP%, it's the real path (J:\TEMP\papin_xp in my case) obviously guessed from... %TEMP%! What if I change the path to the %TEMP% folder? Will this software catch up? Why do the product need such key in the first place? At least, put it within options.

Product uninstalled. Better off using SUPER for 3GP since I already have it.

#5 if you convert to 3GP then back to mpeg you will start to lose the quality of your video, every time you save a video or pic you lose quality, convert a copy not the original

WHY have a combo box to select PROFILE SETTING if there is only 1 setting?

Only outputs 128x96, 176x144, and 352x288. Am I the only one that has a phone that does a standard 320x200?

The CROP Video does not even show the video that is being cropped.

Will not load a 3G2 video unless you rename it to 3GP.

The SUBTITLES option wants you to load a PLUG-IN that didn't seem to come with the program, and the TRIM option would not let you preview only the trimmed part.
I just gave up after that......

I have a suggestion for all of you who always ask ask ask the same monotonous questions.
Buy a used PC and set it up as a test machine for various programs you find on the Internet.
That way you can even help with writing good constructive comments on this website.
If you can not afford one more PC, so help keep the comment list bearable for most potential users!
