@Herr Black, in case you're still listening - I can't dignify your comment with an answer, other than in a few years you won't be able to purchase something like this because there will be zero demand for it.

Anything collaborative in nature needs to live in the cloud. Do you really think you can offer better security in your office than a professional data center/web host? Do you really think people will have no need to access files with any device other than a desktop PC ? Wake up - it's 2011. I stand by my comments - this is a buggy whip. Being a buggy whip is not necessarily bad - there are still a few people who need buggy whips. But most people today look for gas stations not buggy whips when they need to get around.

@ 125

Volodymyr,

I ran the .exe after each installation that I mentioned in my original post (#123) and it never tried to connect to the internet. :/

On my last attempt, I tried registering it via the menu but all I got was a trial registration good until the 29th of this month.

Sadly, I didn't see this thread again until just a minute ago when I saw the follow up post you had made. As a result, I missed out on the extended hours.

Anyway... thanks again.

Tony

Sorry for the late response, but I need to say this.
Thank you so much Volodymyr for this incredible program. Also, your feedbacks made this THE best program ever in my book from GOTD. Very seldom do companies really interact & leave the users feeling frustrated with their program. If not for your feedback, I would not have been successful in trying this new version and would probably have deleted the older one from my life.
I will be buying this prog. in the near future.

I extracted the GOTD version yesterday, but it did not register. I just saw the instructions to use file on your site, extracted it, but per your note that there are extended hours, I got a message telling me my trial is over! As #126 asked, I also ask how to proceed with activation of your version. Thank you for the offer.

to 126: just launch allmynotes.exe, it will connect to the Internet at first launch, download, and deeply GOTD's license. As result, in About box you'll that that it's registered to "Giveawayoftheday" name.

Thank you for your reply dear Volodymyr.
Setup from gaotd cannot be used today due to date limitation, while your zip file ( http://downloads.vladonai.com/AllMyNotes_Organizer_Portable_v2_49_GOTD.zip) extracted and tried is trial again. How to proceed with activation with your version?

to #123: setup.exe doesn't register's anything, all the registration is done by AllMyNotes.exe itself, just make sure that the app has access to interned to download and deploy the license. BTW, we've extended registration process for few more hours to let everyone who experienced a problem with activation to finish the activation.

@ #10 Volodymyr...

"Yes, you can install it in many folders on your PC and USB devices. To make sure that your license is installed properly, there should be gotd467.key..."

I was looking forward to giving your app try but sadly, it would not register.

Even though the giveawayoftheday.com installation window popped up and said "Successfully Registered"... it wasn't. I deleted the directory and repeated the installation process several times and every single time the giveawayoftheday window said "Successfully Registered" but the "gotd467.key" file you mention never appeared?

That's a shame because I really wanted to check out the full version.

Anyway... Thanks for offering your app to us for free. I wish it would have registered. Nevertheless, I've been using 'Maple' for years so I guess I'll just stick with that. ;)

regards,

Tony

Norton 360 did not bat an eyelash when I downloaded and installed this product from the GAOTD site. No workarounds or alternative d/l sites were needed. I am running the very latest version of Norton 360, completely up to date by continuous connection to Norton LiveUpdate. OS is Windows 7, 32-bit, running on an HP machine with an Intel CPU. Probably the problem being encountered by some folks is that one of the ways Norton checks stuff d/l'd from the internet is to see how long the item has been around, and how many Norton customers are already using it. Apparently, Norton, configured in some ways, on some systems, is noticing that this specific d/l package has essentially no history of use by anyone (yet.) A d/l with "no" history and "no" users to date is gonna look suspicious to any Norton security apps that are set to place a lot of importance on history length and number of users.

Quoting #4.
'Installed on the Windows 7 32 bit. Got the error “This program might not have installed correctly”.

No uninstall log created, no uninstall shortcut created, no Start Menu created, no Desktop shortcut created. OK – it is a portable version and these are not necessary, but it is not encouraging to start with an error.'

Crashed within 20 seconds.

Volodymyr, are you aware of Steve Jobs? The maker of things that just work. Suppose someone who just wants a computer to work knows to download zip files to her desktop, uses a program to unzip also to her desktop, executes Setup, and sees the completely unfamiliar 'C:\' place of installation. What does she do next?

Okay, she accepts your unconventional suggestion and proceeds. Then what does she see? Where is the program? It certainly isn't in her Start menu where everything else appears. And.. she's NOT an administrator. This isn't user-friendliness.

I have Window 7x64, When I tried to install to C drive I got the error "C:\users\D&KDIV~1\AppData\Local\Temp\we21C5.tmp Unspecified error.

Next I tried install to other HDs attached to my laptop same error above. Finally I was successful to install to a thumb drive when I tried to install from there kept getting error "cannot load default language Module English (Default) Unable to proceed." I have sent to support but also am posting here as I did not see anyone with the same error. I would like to install this before the Giveaway expires.

Like many others before me, I can only give this a positive review.

Clean install, no problems with registration/activation whatsoever.

Nice 'friendly' interface, and now with the added bonus of extra skins.

I only have one niggle - how to change the location of the saved .ddb docs? So far, all I can find is how to change the path of the backup data.

I would like my documents saved on the same USB device I've installed it onto, but by default it saves them to the location of the earlier version of All My Notes Deluxe, which I installed on my PC.

Would have liked to get this program, but Norton really really doesn't like it.

To the developer - suggest you try it with Norton 360! I don't know if its your program or the GAOTD package, but Norton stops it being installed and gives severe warnings.

Would be great if you offered it again if you can fix the issues that Norton doesn't like.

I am not willing to override Norton.

Well, I have a simple TreePadLite .hjt file with a few computer tips in it. AMN doesn't directly import TreePad but suggests converting to Keynote, which can then be imported into AMN. I just wasted 90 trying to do this simple thing. I could have typed the stuff in by now. If this is organized I'd hate to see disarray. What a waste of my time!

for the dev: please try making it possible to have some cloud backup for notes, would be great !

and when insert tables, would be nice to allow spreadsheets, like a simple excel, just to make simple calcs there

and of course, allow different types of internet address to allow link

tks !

I tried & tried to download & install from GOTD website & it wouldn't install propely. Saw developers comment, #72, and tried their site directly. It woked beautifully. Not sure why it wouldn't install from GOTD website. When I extracted the files, it would only show 2 folders, which were the Read me and install files. When I clicked the install it would try to extract those same files all over again.

Have used this program since I found it last time on GOTD & came to love it. lately it had been bugging me to buy the newer version, but I liked the one I had. Now I get to try before buy a newer one.

Hi,

At the moment I am using more RightNote, but AllMyNotes, Keynote-BF, Treedbnotes are all good in the genre. For me, I find that AllMyNotes starts off with too much, I like my notes to start sparse and build. Maybe there is a way to do that.

The idea of doing this stuff in the cloud is nice and .. slow .. and difficult. Maybe some day the cloud apps will be comparable, and programs like Evernote have a niche, and they are ok for limited stuff, but if you are really doing heads-down notetaking, researching, etc. the local disk access programs are simply, in my experience, far better.

Loaded fine on my version of Win7/64 on an AMD Turionx2. Only issues is that I am on a tablet, and the note taking function doesn't support the tablet and hand written notes. Not so much looking for character recognition, as I would like to be able to jot down a quick note with my pen, rather than having to resort to the keyboard or a separate picture editor for a sketch of an idea I have.

Still, seems like a good option to something like Evernote or OneNote. I do like some of the folder options, and the global search features it has. I just started typing in the word "this" and when I got to "th" it showed a whole list, including "thoughts", which when I don't know how to specifically spell something - that becomes very handy. Thanks GOTD, I doubt I am going to replace my OneNote with this, but I think it's got some promise for a long haul - especially if they can get it on a Mac and Linux platform as well.

To #66 ... For long term file storage and a high level of software independence you might find the way this free software is developing to be of interest: http://keepnote.org/

This developer's philosophy addresses your type of concerns, to quote ...

"All notes are stored in UTF-8 HTML files and nested in ordinary folders on the file system. That means you can read your notes with nothing more than a web browser. I designed KeepNote this way to address my own concerns with saving my notes in a proprietary format that may lock me into a particular program or web service."

Even so AMNO is a very good offering and for basic info capture it does the job quite well. Also it's design helps overcome the bloated tree effect that is typical of such programs. For me it's actually kind of relaxing to use.

On a couple of occasions, I have asked the developer for help, and I have received very quick and good advice. You will also see an indication of the developer's servicemindedness by reading the comments above. Highly recommended!

I'm impressed. I didn't think I needed this program until I started using it, then realized all my existing notes scattered across 3 hard drives can be organized in one place. This is a great little program and well worth the money. I like that the data is stored locally rather than trusting it to the cloud. Also, the fact that the developer has been actively answering questions here today tells me he's serious about the program.

Hi Rogan (#83),

I had no problem. I had the previous version on my laptop and installed this version on a USB thumb drive. Simply opened AllMyNotes on the thumb drive, clicked File/Open and navigated to where I had the previous AllMyNotes.ddb file (in Documents folder on my setup), and opened that in the app on my thumb drive. It opened up OK and everything is there for me to see and do what I want with. Don't understand why it's not working for you.

Hi Volodymyr (and please excuse my familiarity),

Thanks for making this great portable app available on GAOTD - I have the non-portable version which you made available some time ago on my laptop, but this portable version has enabled me to open the files and use them on my desktop also. Not only is AllMyNotes a great app, the service you give is second to none (just look how much time you have spent today answering questions), and I, for one, will be highly recommending your products.

Thanks again to you, and GAOTD.

I will never understand why anyone would use google app's or other cloud storage for passwords or any kind of personal information. personally I would rather be in charge of my own security for my personal information rather than leave it to be hacked on someone else's server.

Update to #33 and a couple others stating the program isn't installed on W7, 64 bit. Allow Windows to install it using its parameters and then go to C drive. Send the AllMyNotes application heading under Programs to the desktop as a shortcut.

It'll work then.

I downloaded this last time it was available. Very nice software! But, one problem: when I tried to sync it between two computers. Tried to use DropBox to do it, and it worked basically, but the problem was that when it opens the file, it locks the file, and doesn't unlock it until you close the program (not just when you minimize to task bar). Therefore, if you open it on the other machine before you close it on the first, you will get inconsistent copies. Worse, the program starts by default on load, so here is the bad scenario:

Load main machine
Starts on load
Edit file
Leave open

Load second machine
Starts on load

Realize program is open on other machine
Close main machine program
Close second machine program

Since second machine program is closed after, it has higher priority, and it replaces edited version, resulting is a loss of edits.

This program is not designed to be used on multiple computers easily. As I said, I liked it, but then I found EVERNOTE. Evernote is EXACTLY this program, but DESIGNED to work on multiple computers, even on your smartphone. Get Evernote instead.

Hope that helps!

Rob

Some new features where added that were not existing in older version, but still, you can open new .ddb file in older app version, simply these features will not be visible, I think it's not a big deal, since all your data is there. And, in the end, why do you need to downgrade?

In addition to the different types of notetaking software mentioned earlier (in number 30 and others), there is another that I simply must mention, and it is free - orangenotes - find it here - http://orangenote.littlesoftware.ca/
Note taking software really is a personal thing as to how the interface fits your needs. Some like highly structured, others like full free form. Todays free (or bargain priced for support at $10) Allmynotes fits in the middle between the two extremes. Definitely worth a try. And, for new users, try minimizing allmynotes to the taskbar so it is always ready when you need it.
