This software did not work at all for me, see my previous comment #41. After uninstalling I realized that it did not clean up it's mess either. All it's devices were still there and blocked for my real web camera in applications like Yahoo Messenger. I had to open Device Manager and uninstall "AV WebCame WDM something" to be able to select my real Web cam again. Then I also removed the 5 virtual Audio Sources it left behind. "Audio Source (1)" to "Audio Source (5)". I leave this note, even though it's a few days since the actual giveaway, in case someone else run into similar problems after uninstalling.

Seems to me like it's just an advertising ploy.

I downloaded, read info, clicked 'setup' and got message 'sorry unable to connect, please try later'.

This message was repeated over a period of 10 hours. Time ran out.

I could buy it, but not from a seller who plays these tricks.
Lousy way snare customers.

My install went OK and shows as registered/licensed. I restarted my machine as part of the process.

However, it BEHAVES like a cross between the two:

Although I downloaded & installed more NickFaces, it only allows me to activate the first 6 in the list.

The autoupdate setting is present (although I don't know if it works as this must be the latest version); however, although I choose to un-check/disable it, upon next program launch it is again enabled -- settings apparently are not "sticky".

If I choose a different "Preferred Video Size" and framerate, it possibly makes no difference as the preview window continues to display at the same size and the info window above it never changes from "320x240 14fps"

I could load the 5 pre-supplied backgrounds; however, I could not download any additional ones (actually, they offer ONLY 1 "Halloween" background!) from the website as the link to the "rar" file did not work. Since the pre-supplied ones are simply JPEG files, I can probably figure out and match the dimensions & color depth (in case that is a factor), but it would be nice for the "help" to mention how.

I seem to be able to enable all the video effects, but can only enable the "Common" audio effects -- the remaining "Morpher" effects will not activate.

Under NickVoices, the "Pleasant Girl" and "Balanced Girl" do not work, nor do the "Teenager" or "Man" voices.

Possibly there's more, but this is enough to tell me that this is a premature product offering.

Installed on xp SP3 no problems.

For #19. The people are sitting with a blue background because the program is waiting for you to select the background. Same with the face expressions.

The important thing for you guys is to read the help file first. Like #19 a lot of problems you are having is your fault not the programs!!

If you learn how to use this program it's a ton of fun.

Installed without any problems. But I tried to get it to do ANYTHING different besides a squealing sound and failed. Tried to change backgrounds and failed. Same with all of the other "extras".

Complete fail on this program.

It works properly in all respects save one - - I cannot make the RECORDER function operate. W7.

Otherwise, it's funny and has a lot of potential. After installation, one can select/download/install from a large list of avatars, male and female. Each comes with a built-in repertoire of button-selectable physical actions. Further, the facial responses change with your speech. Select your avatar and begin talking, adding physical actions with the button panel.

You can then change the background - various room scenes - and even add special effects. Very nice.

As I said - it's hilarious! It could also be extremely deceptive if I picked another gender/generation/voice. All-in-all (with that one exception), this is a winner.

But it would be even better if I could record it...

It doesn't work on Windows 7 because the driver for the software is not digitally signed. I'm sure there's a workaround but I don't have time to figure it out and I'm not interested in going around Microsoft's security features on Windows.

To aswegohomestead

It's got to be the Pro version because you can install the extra NickFaces that are not available with the demo. However I think it's an earlier version because you can't use the additional skins that are available from the developers site. I also think it may be crippled because there's no additional voices for the program.

Sounds like too many problems with this product so I will pass on this one. If the developer wanted to truly benefit from GAOTD they should offer the Pro Version and not an older stripped down version. Sounds like all that could be said about this one is negative and that's not the kind of word of mouth advertising I would want. Thanks anway GAOTD

Installed and registered no problem, Win 7 ultimate x64. However, every time it was initiated a humm started which kept increasing in volume leading to a hasty turn off. I presume it was feedback to the webcam. Uninstalled.

I think it might be easier to start with what AV Webcam Morpher is not... It's not a full fledged Green/Blue screen app. You've probably seen TV shows, "Making Of ..." features for whatever movies etc. where they film in front of a background that's all green or blue. Software then selects everything that matches that green or blue, & replaces it with whatever you choose -- when you watch the weather on TV the weather person is normally standing in front of a green screen, & software puts the weather map in its place [that's why the person's movements are often a bit vague, because they're not really pointing at something they can see, but glancing at themselves in a TV monitor]. AV Webcam Morpher doesn't do motion Avatars based on your image as seen by the camera -- there is software that will, varying in sophistication from cartoonish to almost a bit scary real. Lots of the latest apps/research focus on Microsoft's Kinect, since it can distinguish you from the background so you don't have to set up a special backdrop &/or have to deal with Color or Chroma Keying issues.

What AV Webcam Morpher does is 1) provides special audio/video FX, 2) lets you use prerecorded video clips, & 3) provides some limited Chroma Key features so you can use a replacement background image. If you download extra video clips [they call them Nickfaces] with a blue/purple background, AV Webcam Morpher will replace the background with whatever image you've chosen -- 5 are included or load your own image. Replacement video can work with background replacement in AV Webcam Morpher, but it would be difficult -- you can mimic/replace an existing clip package, but there's no easy way to set the background color you want to drop out if using live video. And while there are controls available under Settings, this isn't by any means a great Chroma Keying app.

You might think the video FX are neat, especially if you're using your webcam for something beyond regular video chat etc., but the area that got the most work in AV Webcam Morpher is using canned video clips rather than anything coming from your webcam. Downloadable as packages with an .xml file listing background color key settings, which clips to use & their behaviors, you activate one of these Nickfaces, then click an one of several icons in another window as you feel appropriate -- clicking the dance icon for example brings up one of a few brief clips showing the actor dancing in their chair, then goes back to the main video loop. Obviously this works better with lower bandwidth, 320 X 240, lower fps video -- the worse the video looks, the less likely anyone is to notice the transitions from one clip to the next, artifacting from background replacement etc.

Installation isn't bad for AV Webcam Morpher itself, but the optional Virtual Webcam driver is a different story -- besides the potential compatibility issues whenever you add a driver, I recorded ~1k new registry entries, plus several changed entries having to do with networking... while I don't see any definite problems you'd probably want to do some sort of backup first, then check out networking & related apps afterward. AV Webcam Morpher uses VFW [Video For Windows], Direct Show, & D3D, but I suspect it won't work with some more recent webcams & their BDA drivers, especially in win7. The "AV WebCam Morpher" program folder holds 258 files, 44 folders, ~28 MB, plus you get a new Avnex folder under User App/Application Data. Included in the roughly 30 new registry entries is a WebCamHelper service. Adding the driver as mentioned results in about 1k new entries, many having to do with video in Windows rather than the driver itself, & while adding the driver adds just one file, I recorded a baker's dozen worth of new Windows video handling files, with another 9 being updated.

Watching TV I'm used to seeing "Viewer Discretion Advised", & I think that discretion part sums up how I feel personally about AV Webcam Morpher... I'm so conditioned by the news to think of only the nastiest uses for something like this, that it took Whiterabbit's comment about playing gags on friends to see it might have any worth at all. I can't help it, can't shake my 1st impression though, so I'd definitely put this dual use app in the to be used properly category where it might be a fun toy. I'm afraid before I spent any money on it though I'd want to look at all the other apps that are currently available... There is some really nice blue or green screen stuff out, Logitech for example offers free avatar software that works with some of its webcams using face tracking, schools & individuals have been experimenting for some time mapping facial movements to 3D heads, & since Microsoft opened up the SDK for the Kinect, all sorts of stuff happening there -- here's a quick Microsoft video [may want to jump to ~1:30]: http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/emerging-tech/2011/02/23/microsoft-shows-off-3d-talking-head-avatars-40091906/

Seemed interesting, so I downloaded and installed it.

Activating was a little convoluted, twice during install it said it had successfully activated but then asked once again on first run. The program looks so, so old, like it was designed for Windows 95, but at least it installed on 64bit Windows. The fonts and general design are poor, and you cannot change the size of the program window. It seems to be designed for the days when screen sizes were maybe 800x600, so on a modern system with a high resolution monitor you can hardly read the text and buttons. Now the even worse news, each time I try and select one of the avatars, the program exits. On next run you can choose one of the avatars, but then it wont recognise your own webcam and the avatar doesn't appear. You have to reboot to get your cam working again, and then the whole process starts again.

I mean seriously programming guys, you're normally asking $50 for this?. There are better programs available for the money, and they actually do work. I really wanted to like this, as it looks fun but it's pretty poor.

It seams to be the Pro version after it's been activated. My guess is that there is not a Pro and non Pro version, but a Demo/Trial and registered (Pro) version. If you check the feature list for both versions: http://www.audio4fun.com/compare-webcam-morpher.htm you will see that you can change video resolution and frame rate in the Pro version, but not in the free version. Today's giveaway allow us to change both these options (when registered), so it should be a Pro version. I tried to install both a free/demo NickFace and a Pro NickFace and they both appear in the NickFace list, but neither of them work :( I have installed the virtual driver AVWebCam, and rebooted, and chosen it as the video source, but still only a black window for Paul_1 and a Xavier_2 and a "TV test picture" for Helen. The online FAQ says that this is caused by not enough memory, and recommends to reboot. I tried that, and only run AV WebCam Morpher, but still same result. It uses a lot of CPU, making my system slightly sluggish, even when it runs basically alone, and still without being able to play the morphed gestures. I had at least expected to see the NickFace person in the webcam preview, even if the morphing had not worked, but just a blank screen, or vertical color bars is not worth the bother, and certainly not worth $49,95.

I recommend ManyCam, which has many of these features in addition to splitting one cam feed to several apps. It does not have fake video loop NickFaces, but it has lots of animated effects that can be applied to the live webcam feed. It also offer a lot of masks/faces that will overlay your face, so you only see your eyes, or you can add animated hair, beard, eyebrows, etc.

I installed it first in sandboxie and it installed fine so I tried it on my actual laptop. Install was fast (Windows 7 64 bit) with a restart required to load their driver. So far I have the program up and running with YAHOO msgr, and my "model" is showing as me instead my actual self. My real cam is also running and if I disable this program my real self will pop right up where I should be on my cam.

I have looked at the tutorial on the publishers homepage, and downloaded a few of the additional models. It would seem this is indeed the pro version seeing I am able to install and use the pro version only models in the first place.

You are able to change the background to one of five predetermined backgrounds, but you have to fool around in the room's setting to remove some of the color distortion haloing the model's head..heh.

When trying the audio portion of the program, I'm unable to use any of the "morpher" functions, but that doesn't really matter to me seeing my models lips don't match up to my words. I'll just use the model with no audio :P

Yeah, fun program, thank you GOTD!

Downloaded and installed without any problems to Vista HP x64 (Maybe will download later to Windows 7 x64 and update).

First off, I though this Morpher would be some kind of cartooned characters or something in that genre. I didn't expect to have someone else's real face showing on the screen. It might as well be mine! I wouldn't want to plagiarize another user's features! Must be one of my pet peeves. Plus, if you check in Help - Help Topics, it says right there that this is the FREE version. Then, when you click on More... (to get extra Nickfaces and/or Nickvoices) it does NOT do anything. As for Nickvoices, the female description is under "Male" and the male description under "Female". There are 3 choices of skins. Again, if you click More...it does NOT do anything. On the Advanced button, if you click under "Effects - More..." again, it doesn't do anything. The effects that do work seems to be more of a nuisance than anything else IMHO. If you check for update, it will give you "invalid response." So far, I don't even have sound (even if it recognizes it) but it could be a problem on my end. Although it would be kind of odd since all other apps are working fine. I haven't had time yet to check it thoroughly but so far it's NOT impressive. :-(

It's a first, at least that I'm aware of, for GOTD to giveaway a FREE Version. If I'm mistaking, could anyone tell me please. Thank you .

Have a Nice Day Everyone!!!

I'm not going to try this one (mainly because of the "blue backdrop" comments)....

Can anyone recommend a free alternative? I'd love to try something like this out on a site like "stickam"... And it has to work on MSN Messenger V.2009 (14.0.8117.416) with "Messenger Plus!" installed.

A friend of mine with MSN messenger has a cam morphing thing, and it looks pretty funny, although not funny enough enough to pay $50 for....

If it has a blue background you can key it out in most video editord corel magix sony adobe etc. simply choose chroma key and you can place the character in front of any background. That being said. I got the voice changer diamond aprox $100.00 and have yet to get it to work. The support from the company is no existant. that is for a paying customer so god only knoews what support will be offered for a 'freebie'

This is not a general use software; it can, if installed correctly, create a 'virtual' webcam, into which you can display provided images that can give the appearance of an older webcam, the ones that don't show continuous motion. The 'nickface' or character image set is controlled through a pop-up window - you click on icons representing gestures, and a corresponding short video of that gesture appears. There is also natural movement to the image so it appears to be 'real'. It is an older-looking interface, and can be a little confusing with the controls at first. I have used this program successfully to display an image, make gestures, and interact with others through webcam chat; I did not have audio at the time, and relied on typing in a IM box; the program does have an older look to it, and it does need an updated facelift. There are many faces and voices you can download, but in response to a previous post above, AVnex offers all kinds of modules for most of its software, but also most must be downloaded one at a time, and not in large sets. They have a large community of contributors and resources and do very good support.
Having said all that, this is not a program you load and run; you need to go slowly and learn how to use it, as it was intended. It is not a webcam viewer or broadcaster as you might conceive of them, it is a unique program for manipulating virtual images in a sharable webcam interface; a fascinating concept.
disclaimer: I do edit copy for them from time to time; however, this is my own opinion of the software, and is independent of any influence by them. It's FREE today, so try it!

Loaded onto windows 7 32 bit, well I tried....

I had an error pop up saying,

"You do not have access to make the required system modifications. Please rerun this installation from an administrators account.(webCamHelper) The handle is invalid."

I have full admin permissions as the main PC user and have never had a message like this before.

It does not appear to have installed anything on my PC. Although it did ask me to complete the registration process which confussed me.

I am dissapointed as I saw this as something I could use on my hobby sites rather than just having myself blabbing on all the time!!

I think that to pay this amount of money for something like this, its not going to be something people will do just for a bit of fun.

You would have to have a serious use for it and for that it would have to work well. And as I can not download it to try it I may never know if it does or not.

My other thought was that if it works well enough it could be used by paedophiles and other fraudsters.
(maybe I am just sore after we recently discovered a work college had been grooming on and offline, and yes we reported our findings, and he is now sat somewhere safely out of harms way with no internet access for a long long time, but these kind of programs make you realise just how easy it is for these kinds of people to come accross as something they are not)

Installed on Win 7 Pro 64 and although it installed ok and starts up it does not work. It turns the cam on but does not record and just shows a black screen. Not worth messing around with IMO so I've uninstalled it. Thanks for the chance but I don't want to 'fiddle' with something that should work out of the box.

Well, every time I try to change the voice it stopped responding.I downloaded a few of th free other people and it just people sitting there with a dumb look on their face with a fakey blue screen behind them.
And another thing.the part to switch voices are backwards, the male voice option brings up the female choices and vice versa.Too bad the program wouldn't respond after I tried selecting them.

Uninstalled,

The virtual webcam driver would not install and after I activated it my avg popped up and then my Data Execution Prevention stopped working and popped up a error.
I'm using vista premium.

I do not trust this program and so far its been a hassle to even install it let alone even using it is going to disappoint

more trouble than its worth so far.

oops, forgot to add: their website says for windows xp and vista. I have Windows 7, 64 bit. Please state if it is not available for that.

Sorry if I sound ignorant, but before I install this and test it out, I have questions. It says "pretend to be somebody else in your video chats". But then it says you don't need a web cam. How can you have a video chat without a webcam? Is there a mock of some sort in this program, and how does it actually work with something like Skype (as is stated on their website)

The program looks attractive, but it's description is confusing. (FOR ME)

Yes, I'm a little slow, but don't hold that against me! I did read the website and am still confused as to what this is.

Is this the latest version of this software, and is it the Pro version? On the website it has more Nickfaces and Nickvoices, but you have to download them individually as opposed to downloading them all in one package. These should be included as standard. When I download them I get a warning that they are not commonly downloaded and that they could harm my computer. Also at least one of the Faces appears to be a demo (NickfaceFrankDemo.exe), but there’s no indication that it’s free or has to be paid for???

When I go to download more skins (there are only 2 available with the version we get) I'd like to experience the whole package not a dumbed down version, which is what we seem to be getting because I can't install new skins. The overall look of the classic skin which is loaded by default does not do a $50 program justice. The Black Vista skin is a little better, but I'd like to be able to choose from more, but when I try to download the several other skins that are available for download from the developers web site I'm told they are not available for older versions of the software, which leads me to think that we have been given an older version.

Overall I like this software, you can have some fun with your friends when using programs like Skype, there’s a lot of hidden depths to the program such as the ability to record and use facial expressions that are controlled by a selection of smileys.

The transitions between facial expressions when you are talking are a little jittery. Hopefully the developer will be able to smooth out these transitions in later versions of the software.

Overall a package worth downloading despite the negative I’ve detailed above, though I wouldn’t pay $50 for it. Reduce the price to around $20 ($19.95 sounds better, and IMO is more likely to garner sales from the giveaway community.
