Hi, 4 hrs left to download this Giveaway and Developer is still displaying "spider-like" behavior.. while on the Home Page of Streaming Audio Recorder asking: "Why not share this with others?"
I presume this means - Spread the Good News, Help us to promote our Software. I think so called Good Will cuts both ways??
Thumbs down from me for this apparent lack of Interest!

These kinds of audio programs have been known to cause problems with the computer's sound devices and speakers. This happened to me with another program, and my speakers and sound wouldn't start working again. I couldn't figure it out through googling my problems and I basically lived without sound until I reformatted my PC (which isn't really a hassle since it was a desktop computer I only use at home sometimes and not work). As I read through these comments it seems like quite a few are having problems already. Use this software at your own risk.

Well I added up the Idea Votes at 6:47 pm my Time and they added up to 245 and then I added up the Negitive comment Votes up to Jeeem which totalled 249, all who said they have lost the sound on their computer so I would say that this Software Developer is not getting a true response to their software that they have developed, as it would seem that people are only Following what certain individulas are saying and I bet the majority of them didnt even try the Software at all they just jumped on the Negitive Band Wagon for what ever Reason. I suspect because they were not getting a $300 dollar program or just did not like the software that was presented.

I stayed up late just to Observe what would acutally happen when the new Giveaway started and yet with the first 4 minutes there was already 25 Negitive thumbs Down and no one could download and install and test this software in that time.

Also for the Voteing for Ideas Well this peice of Software already has a Audio Converter built into it and 2nd place Vote to save the Songs in seperate output Files, Well this does that also if you look under Documents/Streaming Audio Recorder it loads all the Downloads in that Directory and even the one's you Record end up there also.

This Program does exactly what it says it will do and I have seen no problem with it at all. Some of these programmers are trying to make a Living at this and we as a community should be Giving them Honest and straight forward answers, this way we all end up winners in the long run. Better Software is Developed and the programmers succeed and the end User gets a great peice of Software for the purpose it was intended for.

On A final Note I think the Winner for the Voteing Idea should Go to the Person who Suggested that it should support Video also, that is a great Idea for this program and just so you know I Suggested that it would have better Advanced Search Capibilities so you could Search for Music By Name of Artist. or Gener etc....

But to Come in and Sabatosh a Software Developer because you dont have a need for the program or it does not carry a Huge PriceTag it just plain not right.

If you ad the Numbers when a software Developer puts up a Giveaway and lets people download it for Free and just like today lets say 1000 people Recieved the software for Free thats $30,000 The Developer just gave to us as a community and the General public out of their pocket and thats more than some people make in a Years Wages!

So Come on People Lets be Honest! Beacuse as a software Developer myself I know the Hard work that goes into Makeing and Marketing programs.

When there are so many comments about major problems with the program the publisher must step up and address these concerns. Anything less is totally irresponsible. If this shows the type of customer service I can expect from them I will pass on buying any of their products.

Hello,
The extra software is the Sound Driver.
You can uninstall it and it will be removed.
If there is no sound, please change your default playback device to "Realtek HD Audio".

Please check the FAQ about this problem:

So many people reporting problems and no response at all from the developer offering some clarification, explanation, advice as to how to correct the problem, or in fact, saying anything at all in the face of so many unfavorable posts reflects extremely badly and is enough to keep me away from this product.

51.Thanx. GODD. I have 4 computers ans my best one is running on Win 7 64 bit and unfortunenlty it dose't come with ‘stereo mix‘ and I spent hours to see if I coud fix it or update my sound driver and finally noticed that lot of win7 Os’s never came with stereo mix. so I always had problen gettinga free audio recording app. which would work for me on this computer and had no problem with the other 3.
They did come with ‘stereo mix’ and most of audio recording apps is desinged to record for ‘ what you hear ” with stero mix. and finally this app. is able to record audio of ‘conexten audio’ which is what I have in this compute and it works perfect. thanks again.
ps* the edit sec. is very basic but I hav other apps. that do the job I want. I guess you can’t have everything. thanx again. great app. for recording.

Geeze this one is scary LOL. I got All Sound Recorder GAOTD a few weeks ago and it works great so I will pass on this one. If a sound comes out of the speakers ASR records it no matter what the source including youtube and other vids. Too many spooky things happening to computers with this software for me to touch it, even if I wanted to.

I certainly agree with #35 regarding the lack of any response from the developer here in the feedback. You would think that with as many people posting with problems they would want to jump in here and help sort out problems with their product. It's always great to have a gaotd where the developer contributes some comments and suggestions.

Right now if someone ask me if I knew anything about this product I would have to say that there seems to be some problems that I would prefer to avoid with the install based on what I have heard and suggest they take a look at All Sound Recorder. :) Just way to risky for a technological challenged old man.

If it can't capture audio from youtube and other vids I would say the price is way too high as well.

Good Luck to all with this one.

@#25 -Jeeem-

I agree 100%. GivawayOfTheDay has been very good to me over the last several years and i have got some very good software from here.
I even went so far as to install their app on my facebook wall telling all my friends how great this site was and how great the software was that they offer here for free.

However,
recently IMO some (too many) of the software titles offered here have been full of problems. I did try to install todays offer after reading all the warnings of course. Sure enough, I got the driver warning message so at that point I thought better of it and aborted the install.

This is starting to happen too frequently. I had problems with Monday's Media Base giveaway too.
I am sad that i must take GiveAway's app off my FB page as I can't reccomend to my friends stuff that may screw up thier computers.
I wish the software developers would spend more time on writing good solid code, rather than making some flashy website, with awards and other crap. Hey, here is an idea, Write a Help file that explains all of the functions any how to use them , explain the what the settings do, or don't do. If your program is going to install a driver that Windows can't verify, explain that and why you did not get windows verification. Wtite this in your installer shell so the customer can read what the program will do and why you need a hacked driver.

Good software will sell itself, not a flashy site with awards and testimonials.
And there you have it. My 2 cents for the day.

#13: "On my Win Xp SP3 system; the unsigned driver caused the blue screen of death."

On re-start select Last Known Good?

* * *

#16: "I installed the software, including the extra file recommended, and lost all my sound. Restarting the computer didn’t fix it, nor did uninstalling the software. I use windows7 home and realtek sound. What do I do now???"

As others have posted, set your defaults in Control Panel -> Sound to your Realtek hardware. If you want to get rid of the driver/service entirely, After setting a Restore Point &/or backing up try renaming Apowersoft_AudioDevice.sys to Apowersoft_AudioDevice.sy_ in Windows\ System32\ Drivers\ or use SysInternals' Autoruns, search for apowersoft in the main scan window, & uncheck the box for that service. After a re-start optionally delete the file &/or search the registry for apowersoft & delete the driver keys. If something goes wrong [it didn't in tests] boot into Safe Mode & restore, or boot from disc/USB & restore backup etc.

* * *

#20: "Record quality seems acceptable (haven’t had the time to test on high quality source yet)."

I wouldn't expect it to really have much if any effects. It works with your hardware, doesn't have any digitizing capabilities of it's own, so there aren't any of the recording issues people test & debate with one sound card vs. another. AFAIK it just takes an already digital stream, writing it to disk in your chosen format. Now it could use more format choices -- generally there can be some extra quality loss for example when/if you save 44.1 when your hardware works internally with 48, but not everyone is that serious about PC audio.

* * *

#21: "I can’t see much that this does, which Audacity doesn’t do already. And Audacity is free all the time."

Includes a driver designed for those who can't record playback because of DRM restrictions.

* * *

#34: "A big bonus is the virtual driver which becomes part of the windows system and can be used with any other recording software."

It's accessible, BUT not always usable -- in fact to use the virtual driver elsewhere I found it best to start SAR, then once it had set up the audio routing, close the app & then fire up whatever software for recording. Being able to monitor (hear) what I was recording that way was also a bit iffy.

* * *

#40: "If you find nothing is recording, most likely you will need to change the Audio Source (yes, in SETTINGS again!) to Device Sound, Stereo Mix (sometime listed as “What U Hear”). This depends entirely on the kind of soundcard in your PC."

Actually if you can already record what you're playing, there's little or no need for Streaming Audio Recorder, but the option is there -- the Recording tab -> Settings dialog has a couple of radio buttons -> choose the lower one (not system, which uses the virtual driver) & then select your device from the drop-down.

#46: "... AS For all the People Claiming that the Recorder Knocked out the sound on their systems then may I suggest that changeing the compatibility properties to have it run under a different windows system."

Far as I can tell after a bit of testing, the problem is the way audio is re-routed in Windows by SAR... I can't think of a great way to describe it simply, but in a nutshell what's happening I think is that Windows is settling on a set of connections where input [the playing audio] is sent to the new virtual driver, & that virtual driver also has an output that's sent to your actual hardware & from there to your speakers/headphones. Without SAR running, the connection between the virtual driver's in & out is often broken. Ideally Windows should break the connection to the virtual driver entirely, forming a new one with your hardware, but it doesn't always do that. It would take more testing to nail it down further, & it's already so late I don't know this will be posted [I spent too much time trying to find some fool-proof way of using SAR that most always worked], but it's not unlike what I've seen with video-related apps *building graphs*, where some combination of Direct Show filters has to be able to connect & pass the input through to the end of the chain -- it's called building a graph because that's what you can do literally with Graphedit, a Microsoft dev tool. At any rate, the problem's are there in XP as well as 7, in testing more so.

Apowersoft's Streaming Audio Recorder works, in tests recording streaming video with audio hardware that would not record that same audio on its own. And I did succeed in recording that same audio using Audacity with the Apowersoft driver. OTOH getting recording to work tested my patience, stretching it very close to the breaking point. Since you don't have a choice of whether or not to install the Apowersoft driver [like you did with the earlier GOTD from Audials], & since uninstall won't remove it, I'd suggest at the least setting a Restore Point before trying Streaming Audio Recorder out. And since it does install that somewhat glitch-prone driver, if you don't need it -- if you're happy with what you have or can record speaker out already -- you might want to skip today's GOTD... while Streaming Audio Recorder has a decent enough design, other than providing a virtual audio driver it doesn't do anything special at all.

To get Streaming Audio Recorder working I made sure that my audio hardware was set as the default for both recording & playback in Windows Control Panel audio properties dialog -- in XP it's called Sounds and Audio Devices Properties & in win7 it's simply Sound. If the Apowersoft driver is set as default you'll hear no sound. Once Streaming Audio Recorder starts it should *temporarily* set it's own driver as the default for Speakers/Playback, switching things back when you close the app. But don't think of it as a hard connection, like plugging in your headphones -- Windows *should* route the audio more-or-less through the Apowersoft driver to your hardware, so Streaming Audio Recorder can record it & you can listen. In testing it didn't always work that way, & after closing Streaming Audio Recorder things didn't always return to normal, though a Windows re-start/re-boot always reset things, so that audio worked the same way it did before adding this GOTD. Recording audio from Flash video playing in ie8 & 9, I needed to open Streaming Audio Recorder 1st, then the browser -- closing the app with the video still playing, most of the time I lost sound, though if I restarted the browser with SAR off, the video played/sounded fine. Because Windows audio routing tended to stick, once I started/stopped SAR I could *usually* record in Audacity the same way, though sometimes hardware was cut out of the loop, so while I could watch Audacity recording good waveforms, I couldn't hear a thing.

For testing I used a cheap USB soundcard device attached to a a couple of VMs [XP & win7 32] in Win7's VPC [Virtual PC] -- with Audio Integration off the VMs didn't interact with or pass through to my existing audio hard & software, giving a fair representation I think of PCs/Laptops that can't normally record playing audio. At times trying to test &/or work with SAR could only be described as maddening, mainly because that virtual audio routing worked sometimes, & sometimes it didn't, & sometimes Windows got so confused by this audio routing & re-routing that nothing audio would work at all. A few times I got something working by playing with the settings in either SAR or Audacity, never to repeat it again.

When you start Streaming Audio Recorder you're presented with a dialog to both select & test the hardware you want to use to listen to whatever it is you want to record. While there's a checkbox to keep that dialog from popping up, I found the test handy to make sure things hadn't quit working. From top to bottom there's a text box next to a Search Music button that's used for downloads [not recording], with no info given with any of the results -- after a download's complete, clicking the mark next to a completed download [on the Download Tab] brings up a log that in tests always said: "Server: Goear webserver". Below the search box are Play controls -- this is where you stop music playing... while there are several places you can start playback, this is where you stop it. Below that you have the Record tab, a tab labeled Search [where you view/select search results], a Download tab [for complete or in-progress downloads], & a PlayList tab. When you go to the Record tab, the "Settings..." button is where you can verify that the "Playback Device" drop-down shows the hardware your speakers or headphones are connected to -- that the "Audio Source" is set to "System Sound" [if you want to use the virtual driver] -- turn on/off silence detection & AGC [both with help tips] -- & finally set your output destination & format. To start recording there's the traditional red dot icon/button [mis-labeled on/off instead of Start/Stop], & if things are working when you start recording you'll see a small, animated graph -- if not you'll see a row of red dots [don't wait until the recording's done to find out it didn't work]. Included tools include a minimal editor & converter -- you also get a CD Ripper, a CD Burner, & an ID3 Tag Editor, though I didn't test those at all.

The biggest thing about installation is that virtual driver, & it bothers me that there's no great way to remove it. On the plus side the XP VM would restart without the driver present, & though it still shows up in SysInternals' Autoruns, most of the driver registry settings were removed by uninstall -- search for apowersoft in Autoruns to disable, or in regedit to find & delete this service's key. In case of compatibility problems if or where Windows won't start, it might be easiest to rename Apowersoft_AudioDevice.sys in Windows\ System32\ Drivers. Installation also adds 8 files in an unusual place that uninstall fails to remove -- User\ Application Data\ Microsoft\ in XP, User\ AppData\ Roaming\ Microsoft\ in win7... 1eaadjc.dll, bass.dll, engine_vx.dll, kfgresk.dll, mjcriu.dll, peaadje.dll, qwadjb.dll, rsaadjd.dll. The "Apowersoft" program folder holds 66 files, 16 folders, ~35 MB, and a 2nd folder with the same name is added to User\ Application Data\ or User\ AppData\Roaming that holds 7 files, 4 folders, ~170 KB. Aside from the driver/service changes to the registry are minor.

All in all I wouldn't think much of Streaming Audio Recorder if it didn't enable playback recording on PCs/laptops that can't do that out-of-the-box. The recording settings should include the recording sampling rate, frequency, & format, & the Editor, the Converter, & the Downloader should all do [much] more. But it is an alternative for those caught in a bad situation, those owning/using PCs/laptops with this nuisance DRM built-in, so they can't record what they play.

I was gonna give Streaming Audio Recorder a try, but after seeing so many problems reported here, I think I'm gonna pass. Better play safe than sorry.

Just as a sharing from me, if you use Firefox as your browser, there's an add on that can record audio stream: Flashgot, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flashgot/

I tried it once and it worked, although I don't know yet how to stop the recording once it started except by disconnecting myself from the internet.

And to record video such as Youtube, I use Real Player, www.real.com.

NO AUDIO SOLUTION

Hi when I installed this my speakers wouldn't work after. To fix this go to control panel, hardware and sound, and click manage audio devices. Find your speakers and click them and click "set as default." This should fix your audio.

I will attempt to clarify the intentions of GOTD and the developers who offer their wares to us users. The purpose of this site is to allow us to sample or try out the FULL / PAID versions of software for an unlimited amount of time. The idea is that if you like the program enough, you will opt to purchase it. The giveaway is only able to register on the day it is offered, so if something happens to your computer, you will not be able to re-install it. It is at this point you will decide if you can live without it or not, and will buy it. The discounts are for those that decided instantly that this is a keeper and a must-have piece of software.

I'm not sure about today's giveaway yet because of the plights of some previous posters. If someone could confirm that it is in fact a simple problem concerning source / speakers jacks, and can be fixed in control panel, I for one would appreciate it. I would especially like to hear from someone that had previously posted about errors and/or no sound.

#1 and #3 and others ....

Developer pay attention:

Installed on Win7, recorded a few things, all went well. Then closed the program. Nothing would play sound!! It closing the program disables the sounds device I was recording from.

The temporary fix: Start Streaming Audio, have it record from a device that I don't have, then close Streaming Audio. Now my speakers work again. I guess I could have booted for the same solution.

@49 Ron, Why would you purchase a license of something you got from GOTD for free?

Unlike the Giveaway version of the software - A purchased license is usually entitled to.

1. Tech Support
2. Future Software upgrades & updates (bug fixes, improvements, new features)
3. Can install and reinstall the software as required. (not limited to installing during the 24hr giveaway)

Sometimes:

4. Additional discounts on other products from the same developer.

Yes in terms of software features, the Giveaway "free version" is the same as the "purchased version" - but as listed above there are other entitlements available only to users who purchase a license (as opposed to users running only the "free version" from GOTD).

I am a bit confused. Upon installation, I was taken to a web page that offered a "special GAOTD discount" of $19.95 for the program "Streaming Audio Recorder."

I thought that what GAOTD was "giving" was a license to run the software offered. If so, why would I need a discount to buy the same product? Is this only a "1/2 price giveaway?" or will my downloaded version self-destruct?

If this is an offer for a full version, what do you get that would be worth an extra $20? If Giveawayoftheday is stripping out half the value of the software downloaded, then this needs to be emphasized, for then what we are getting is not the product as advertised, but rather an alternative that is only worth 1/2 of the value of the full product.

I do understand the "no tech support" limitation, but does the vendor consider this to be worth 1/2 the value of the product? If so, then there isn't much confidence in the product without the tech support!

I am just confused, I guess. It seems like I signed up on this special site for a "software giveaway" only to be then offered an opportunity to buy the same software for 1/2 of the retail price.

If, on the other hand, I am getting the fully functional product and am bypassing the tech support, then I ought to be offered (if I am offered anything) to buy tech support for this product--hopefully for something less than 1/2 its retail price!

Thank you for your patience with this confused consumer. Perhaps a bit of clarification on either page would be helpful.

Always always create a restore point or backup before installing new untested software. Some of you guys will have to use an old restore point to get previous functionality restored.

Ron Here again

I am Running Windows Vista Home Premium

I have done a few more test on the software and hope to answer some questions and help people get to enjoy this download.

First of allI was alittle aprehenceive when I installed this software due to the Unsigned Driver warning but did it anyways and loaded the program on a portable Hard Drive I have in a Folder called Giveaway Installs

Again the Program installed and Activated Fine on my system and when starting the program it ask you to setup the whole thing with 2 questions.

1. Set the Default Playback Device It has my speakers listed in the drop down menu and they are the only choice it gives (Realtek High Definition Audio) so I chose those. it also has a test button in which I tried and I did recieve sound and passed the test.

2.It then ask's you to choose the Audio Recording Device And it gives you 2 Options one the System Sound or 2 a drop down list and I get one choice which is my Microphone.

I chose the System Sound. on the 3rd screen it confirms your selections and you may choose finish. on the 3rd screen there is also a small link just under the main title steps ( Steps 1 Steps2 etc...) Called (Click to open Sound Dialog) clicking that link brings up a window where you may choose some sound options.

The program works fine on my system and allows me to search for all kinds of music and plays it back with no problems on My System. Even the Downloads I have gotten from the program stay in a Folder that the program installed under Documents/Streaming Audio Recorder

I have Pulled up a couple Videos and Played them through the VLC Media Player also had the Streaming Audio Recorder Record as the video was Playing in VLC and it Recorded the sound just as is. it automatically Named the recorded file with todays date and the size of the file (EG. 2011-07-13-20734)

AS For all the People Claiming that the Recorder Knocked out the sound on their systems then may I suggest that changeing the compatibility properties to have it run under a different windows system. Such as XP or Vista if your useing windows 7. and try running the program as Administrator as this may help.

I know that alot of people were having problems with the AXMAG program when it was launched and just by Changeing the Compatibility mode made the Software Register succesfully.

So Try Right click on the Desktop Icon Streaming Audio Recorder then Choose the Properites selection.
Then in the Properties Box Choose The Compatibilty Tab.
Under the Compatibility tab you will be given many options of Run this program as XP ,Windows Server , 98, Etc... and at the bottom a small check box to run as Administrator.

try a few of these options and hopefully this will help some of you that would like to enjoy this software.

Freemake Video Converter converts youtube vidoes to .mp3 files without having to download the actual video or use an audio recorder. It's free.

http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter

The Total Audio Converter given away on the 14th of June, also includes an option to convert youtube videos to audio files. And as someone else mentioned Sound Editor Deluxe does the same. Plus you can record audio with Sound Editor Deluxe and also WaveMax which was also given away here.

Thank you to all those who mentioned the unsigned driver (which is the reason I decided to skip this offer). I do not want to risk any issues with it, even though Windows 7 does not seem prone to crashing as XP does when it comes to drivers.

I use Roxio's audio capture for audio recording. It includes a feature that mutes system sounds while recording. Prior to discovering this feature, there were times when I made what I thought was the perfect recording of streamed audio only to discover a system beep was recorded. I guess the alternative would be to disable system sounds and then enable them again when done.

Anyway, anyone who has a pc that came with Roxio Basic installed, has this option. You do have to look for it though. I believe it's standard in any of their audio recording software.

Well, did not disrupt my XP sound or playback of audio or video files or websites, BUT when I recorded something, the file that was created did not have any audio on it. :(

Sorry, one correction to my earlier comments: yes there IS an Audio Converter option in the SAC Tools menu. :)

Streaming Audio Recorder is causing problems with the sound card;
program got my sound card to stop working, tested software on two computers the same thing, had to uninstall the sound card in your computer to get the sound back again,

Respectfully, the program installed and works just fine on my windows
7 32 bit. It even gives you very easy sound tester, and of course
one would have to have an external source hooked up and turned on
and configured correctly for it to recognize the sound source.

For at least 95% of the time that i get a GOTD, the programs have
performed as they said and more; and sometimes i have to learn how
to use it, for i am not a brainy, just a senior citizen! Thank you
GOTD and Apowersoft, THUMBS UP!

OK, I've tried this now and am baffled by some of the comments above.

It CAN AND DOES record in formats other than MP3! Just click that nice SETTINGS button and you can choose by using the dropdown in Output, Format AAC, WMA, WAV, and OGG are all there; and they all work.

If you find nothing is recording, most likely you will need to change the Audio Source (yes, in SETTINGS again!) to Device Sound, Stereo Mix (sometime listed as "What U Hear"). This depends entirely on the kind of soundcard in your PC.

Likewise, for anyone needing to 'convert' recording, open them in the built-in audio editor and save them in the new format. Why are other claiming SAC can't convert file? Is it because there is no explicit 'Convert' button and they simply haven't bothered to explore this program?

The silence detection function is a bit 'fierce.' It cuts recording INSTANTLY (no 'wait for x seconds' setting) and I found that if recording is started while the PC is 'silent,' SAC 'misses' about the first second or so when sound starts playing. The website's Features page claims 'setting time period for skipping silence.' [sic] This is wrong: you can only specify a THRESHOLD level and not a time period (as I mentioned above).

Sadly, there is no function in SAC to automatically split recordings into 'chunks' of n minutes (unlike, for example, Hanso Recorder).

I also agree with the previous comments that the "Engrish" on the site needs work. Some of it is baffling. And if, as others have alleged, SAC are misquoting their ratings on download sites: yes, that looks very bad!

So overall, I'd rate SAC as a 6 or 7 out of 10. There is a lot to like about it, and it's very easy to use; but with such aggressive and not very controllable silence detection, and no 'auto split' function, it's not a keeper for me personally. I also have no use whatever for the 'music search;' but maybe you, dear reader, would like that? If so, then I see no reaason not to give SAC a fair shot and see what you think.

This one is definitely hit-or-miss.

I installed on XP older Dell desktop (like Greg L) and it froze/locked-up the computer every time I tried starting it.

Deleted from the machine and everything works perfectly again.

Just too many bugs and problems for such software.

I gave this one a thumbs down and didn't even try it, but before you give me negative comments i'll explain why. First off I have no real use for this program but thats not the reason for the thumbs down. The reason being is all the comments people are posting about issues this program is causing with their computers and the biggest reason I gave it a thumbs down, not one comment from the developer giving a suggestion as to why it might cause some of these problems or not even a "sorry for the problems everyone is having, please email me at ( ) and I will try to help".

Sorry but if a developer doesn't care about his consumers then I don't care for his products.

Works great but it would be perfect with a better interface. Just being able to maximize the interface would be a good start.

A big bonus is the virtual driver which becomes part of the windows system and can be used with any other recording software. Something that's not always the case with similar programs where the use of a virtual driver is only an option from within the program.
This is great for the many Windows 7 systems that lack the"stereo mix" option.

Freecorder (http://www.applian.com/freecorder4/download.php) is a free alternative to this software, and has always worked reliably for me. I have never had a problem with Freecorder messing with my device drivers to cause loss of audio from the computer.

Downloaded and installed, and it "started working out of the box". I found that it is best to record from system sound as other options sounded distant. Play with the recording options until it sounds best for you. A great app.

Installed fine on 7-23bit. Yes you get the message that a target device is not found. This is correct 99% of the time simply because most people have nothing hooked up on the line in sockets on their pc. you need only to use this if you want to record from external devices or midi devices.
just close the window you won't need it (check the don't show anymore check mark, if you need it at some point you find it in settings)

Program is easy to use, the few searches i did with random artist names came up with highly satisfying results. Mic test went fine too although i had to play with my sound settings a bit to get it all right. That is however mostly due to the many sound devices i have on my system compared to what is average for most systems.

All in all i think this a nice little program and since it's completely free today i see no reason why anyone that has no decent recording software now should leave this alone.

Okay, let's look a the Apowersoft website. Oh, 5/5 editor's pick from DownloadPlex.com on the right.

http://www.apowersoft.com/company/about.html

Looks good! Now let's just head over to DownloadPlex.com and verify this..oh just wait a minute, I don't see any 5/5 editor's pick on here. I see one 4/5, but 4/5 doesn't equal 5/5 editor's pick.

http://www.downloadplex.com/index.php?a=search&q=apowersoft&os=&do=search&page=1-0-0-0-0

Then again, the only 5/5 rating I see on the showed off Download.com is based from 1 review.

Where do all these companies who make software that only gets around 500 downloads on these sites get all these awards come from? I want one too, not that I have software to sell though.

To all those saying 'had to uninstall/use system restore' because I lost system sound, just click control panel > sounds and change default speakers back to your normal speakers, rather than 'Apowersoft Audio Device'. Problem solved.

@ those who lost their sound. these programs usually work by creating a new device driver which you can set your system to use for recording or playback.

You can just as easily set it back. Depending on your system its something like this

1 click start
2 click control panel
3 click sound and audio devices
4 click the audio tab
5 reset playback and recording to your normal soundcard in the selection boxes
6 click ok and you should be back to square one

Go ahead and rate me low if you want, I don't care.

I just want to say this: I've learned well from being on GAOTD for years now, that when a program is offered and there are multiple warnings in the comments section about the program causing ANY sort of problem with say, WINDOWS XP SP3, or WINDOWS 7, VISTA or any other OS or particular program...

STEER AWAY.

Hey, it's free...so no big deal.

I'd rather skip an offer than end up with a problem that either takes me days to figure out how to fix, or permanently alters my system in a bad way.

This has happened to me before.

I was interested in a program that GAOTD was offering and read many, many posts that said it caused severe problems with the same system I'm running...BUT, I also read a few posts that said they were running the same system as me and never had a problem...

Power of the mind...

Six positive comments versus forty-nine negative ones and I STILL decided to stick it out...and ended up regretting it. I had it in my mind I wanted the program, so I ignored the higher number of warnings versus the small amount of people running the same system who didn't have a problem. That decision caused me such problems that my computer never worked correctly afterwards and was in and out of the computer repair shop frequently after that, for a good two years before finally crashing altogether.

Point in fact people, it doesn't matter so much what system you're running...but what kind of computer you have, how old it is, what is installed on it, etc., so better to be safe than sorry.

I'm passing this one up simply because of the number of comments about major negative issues. So should you, in my humble opinion....

Update from earlier post: After an uninstall, reboot, reinstall, and restart the program works as advertised. I actually like it - simple and easy to use. Whatever happened during the initial install was corrected on reboot - not sure what was causing the problem. However, despite the problems on install I do like the software and the recorder results are very good.
