Hi folks
Procrastinator here ;-)
I downloaded and installed program without problem back in February.
I didn't have time to test it since. Kaspersky didn't have any problem with it. Since my subscription expired I switched to AVG -free and guess what? AVG complained about the same four files. It is now December and a recent AVG so they obviously haven't changed their opinion.
I wish the developers would read these and respond.

#44, Wolf: "...Nod 32 Antivirus found NO viruses at all..."

#78, ed: "...I scanned it with panda anti virus, it’s virus free..."

...and others:

Lately I've been getting nags from my AVG anti-virus that the four 2Flyer SCR files installed in the C:\Windows\system32 directory are infected:

Flash Saver(2flyer).scr
Image Saver(2flyer).scr
Video Saver(2flyer).scr
Web Saver(2flyer).scr

I didn't want AVG to toss them into the "vault" where it would ruin the function of the 2Flyer package, so today I did a check on one of them to see what some other anti-virus packages had to say about them.

Well, according to VirusTotal.com , 18 of 41 popular/major anti-virus packages (44% of them!) now consider the SCR files installed in the C:\Windows\system32 directory to be infected, including Nod and Panda:

http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/0bb3bcae2024ad7a8e41a1c066ac7e39605edf13a8be4fdef97dde9883a0c8b5-1248350574

That seems high enough to me to normally warrant isolation/deletion of the files as genuinely infected -- banish them to the vault! -- but hopefully they are indeed innocent.

Granted, these may be "false" positives in the sense that the code 2Flyer built into those files is necessary for the program to function as intended (as others have mentioned).

I would think the developers might want to contact the major anti-virus companies to get their product off their lists if they can prove this is truly free of malicious code.

Either that, or make it so that their code does not trigger the detections by fitting the profile of malware/spyware.

URGENT CONCERN
Downloaded 2Flyer Screensaver Builder Pro on 7/2/09 from GiveAwayoftheDay and installed. "Seemed" to be a great piece of software and effective. BUT on 20/3/09, decided to run Ad-Aware SE to check my system, and this software identified WIN32.TROJANSPY.BANKER in four files which were quarantined. The files were...
\system32\Image Saver (2Flyer).scr
\system32\Flash Saver(2Flyer).scr
\system32\Video Saver(2Flyer).scr
\system32\Web Saver (2Flyer).scr

I've had this on my machine since the giveaway (haven't used 2Flyer yet though), and today (for the first time in a long time), I logged into AIM, and immediately Symantec Antivirus notified me that "video saver(2flyer).scr" was a trojan (but no specific name or anything). It ~might~ be a false positive, but I think this is the first time I've had an alert on giveawayoftheday software, and to me, the timing is also suspicious. Reading what some others wrote about it changing other settings and stuff makes me a bit suspicious of this software.

In addition to my above comments.

I have found that after un-installing this program that not only did it mess with my screensaver settings, it helped itself to other things too.

It changed things in my Display Properties. I have always chosen NOT to have menu effects and whatnot. No transitions for menus and tooltips. WELL IT CHANGED THAT

I also have no sounds for Windows events. That's the very first thing I do when tweaking a new PC to run the way I want..I choose no sounds for anything...they annoy me. WELL IT CHANGED THAT TO!

Two more thumbs down for this program from me! IT'S RUDE AND NERVY FOR A PROGRAM TO HELP ITSELF TO CHANGING SETTINGS ON MY MACHINE.

DO NOT MAKE CHANGES TO HOW I CHOOSE TO RUN MY MACHINE AFTER I HAVE SPENT MY TIME TURNING THINGS OFF.

02/08/09 - I realize I am posting a day after "2Flyer ScreenSaver Pro" Giveaway ... I installed this program on my Laptop that has Vista Home Premium SP1, 64-Bit ...

Q1: Has anybody experiencing a SLOW-DOWN of their computer/laptop? Because I have been experiencing a Choke-Down of operation for the simplest task as opening a Word or Wxcwl or any application.

Q2: Has anybody seen where the heck is the Registration Info for this program?

Thanks,

G!:)

Any program or, executable code, packaged inside another program is likely to be considered a trojan by an anti virus scan. 2Flyer contains an executable named RunDefaultSaver.exe. The sole purpose of this code seems to be to change your default screensaver settings. FireFox would love to be my default browser, but it politely informs me that it is not and gives me the option to make it so. This is only good programing protocol, at the very least an exceptable method would prompt the user to inform them that system changes have been made. Code that makes changes to system defaults silently can be considered malware even if the programmers had no malicious intent.

I removed RunDefaultSaver.exe with no ill effects to the program. In doing this I have regained the ability to choose my own default screensaver.

Sad, I was looking forward to this one.

XP Pro SP3 I've had a LOT of programs from this site and never had any problems installing them until tonight. BitDefender will not allow this to go through. It says it's a danger and stops the process. I can override it if I want, but why have it running to protect me and then override it's decision? Never had a problem before. :-( Puzzled!

#18... I'd like to know how you are discovering all these "amateurish errors" in the source code for this and other applications you review here? Are you de-compiling them and then running analysis tools on them? Admit it - your reviews are just utter BS... You're a poser. If I were the developer, I'd be looking into a slander case. You might impress some of the clueless newbs here with the pseudo-tech babble but you don't impress anyone who knows what they're talking about.

GOTD users who might think #18.wannabe actually knows something about software development - unless he has actually seen and analyzed the source code for the application, including all the libraries and how they're compiled - there is absolutely ZERO he can say with certainty about the coding techniques, software project management practices, or anything else.

It is credible to say "this application APPEARS TO BE amateurish, etc etc" but unless he has violated every license agreement (user shall not reverse-engineer...etc etc.) that ever appears here... he's full of crap because he doesn't have any better way to know than you do.

And if he has violated the EULA... well then he's either a crook or seriously needs a life b/c these $20 utilities are hardly worth spending a week to decompile and analyze for development standards.

2Flyer has the annoying habit of hijacking the default screensaver settings. I've tried resetting the default manually several times but the program keeps changing them back. This behavior qualifies as malware which is probably why some virus scans reported a trojan.

Totally agree with #26, #43, #49, #77 regarding Ashraf. I really appreciate the time and effort he puts into his reviews. It saves me a lot of time! He should be writing for some commercial software review mag or website. Also have found all sorts of great info on his website.

One downside I have found is when you install the program, it automatically installs sample screensavers without you permission or knowledge.
Comment by temp64 #6

If you preview a sample screensaver it will install the sample in a temp directory, it does not register as an installed program, however if you exit the program without canceling, the screensaver will continue to run independently from the 2Flyer program. Running this way there are no apparent controls to stop or shut off the screensaver. You have to reopen the program and click cancel to shut it off.
I hope that helps.

I like the program but I am having a problem with using the screen savers I make. Everytime time I set one of the screensavers as the one to be used, even through control panel, the computer resets screensaver to "none". Anyone else run into this problem. No matter what I do the setting is not retained. If I select any of my regular screensavers, the setting is retained and the screensaver works as it should.

It works great. It's actually fun to use. Sure beats the coding you have to do with the screensaver shell that comes with MicroSoft Visual Studio. A little imagination will take you a ways with it. I've never sought out a screensaver generator program before though, but I like this gem.

This is a program that could be useful if it weren't for the annoyances and one bug that I found. (Will explain below)

I wasn't interested in the screensaver save option. I wanted to check out it's .exe option for slide shows.

I use ProShow Gold and it can export in many formats includeing .scr. I also own Firehand Lightening. Both of these are exceptional programs, but I wanted to see what this one had.

For me the cons outweigh the pros and I have un-installed it.

Pros:
Can use many different formats, including swf, video, audio and still images.

Installed and activated just fine on my XPHome SP2 machine.

Cons:
1) First it did indeed not only install screen savers but it also decided I should have one active when I NEVER use screensavers I have NONE chosen. This program went in a decided that it would activate a screen saver. DIDN'T GIVE ME A CHOICE, IT JUST OVER RODE THAT I HAVE NONE CHECKED. DO NOT MESS WITH MY DESKSTOP AND THE WAY I HAVE CHOSEN TO HAVE THINGS SET.

2) It does the same thing when you create a screensaver. First it saves it and doesn't tell you where, or allow you to name the file..and then it just overides your settings and makes this screensaver you just made active.EVEN WHEN YOU WANT NONE.

3)I created a executable slide show and saved it. At least with this option you can decide what to name it and where to put it. It runs fine UNLESS YOU MOVE YOUR MOUSE. This appears to be a bug. The .exe behave just like a screen saver. If you touch your mouse and the cursor moves on your screen you so called .exe slide show CLOSES.

4)The UI - Yes a bit sparse but that's not what bothered me. You don't have the ability to expand the window and work with this aplication full screen in a full sized window.

5)Uninstalling - After I removed it the image that I had set as my dssktop wallpaper disappeared and I had to go in and reset it.

All in all to me this is a thumbs down. Has the potential to be a nifty little application but it's annoyances far outweigh any good qualities.

@Ariana, #71:
There is NO such thing as a stupid question. Nobody knows everything (at least I don't), but I CAN give an answer to your question.
The only way to get to know more is to ask questions. And asking something you don't know makes a lot of sense I think.

2flyer is a tool to build screensavers with the pictures, flash-animations, videos you like. You can make lots of screensavers just the way you like (ofcourse all within the supplied frame of possibilities which are quite substancial) but you can not build a flash video with it (and so, not for your website either).
You can use already build flash files to turn them into screensavers.
A screensaver can be used on your pc but not in a website (unless you make it a download to share with your website-visitors).

Hi All.

This is my first post on this site although I have been watching for awhile and download the occasional program that takes my fancy. Generally I've no use for screen savers but I have to say this program is really useful and not something I would normally bother with. Installed with no problems on XP Home SP3 and says it's Pro Version 8 full edition so I'm happy, I've even installed it on my wife's PC so that she can play. Have to say that I've had no problems atall with any of the programs that I've downloaded from this site so keep up the good work GAOTD

Ashraf, I do follow your comments and find them very useful, keep up the good work.

Just to further my previous post..

This IS an absolutely great little Tool-Set, I've been using some of my own personal 3D Animations, I have created several LONG Screen-Savers, and they all work just fine. I again have to say, the quality of out-put is great ( but I think thats down to the in-put quality ). I can now share multiple Animations with my buddies, in form of a Screen-Saver. It can also be used to do presentational work etc on.

This is just one Nifty little Toy/Gadget/Application.

As for Viruses, none to be had..The "dropper trojan" is the auto-reader/register, which is needed to run the Installer & Verifier. If your AV slams up about it, just allow it or set it in your white-lists...Redownload if needs be..This is really that fun and useful an application..

I also pay a lot of attention to Ashraf, saved me heaps on un-install time, Ch33rs Buddy...But I have not found no bug yet either..Not to say it isn't present, just I've not had one single problem in hours of work, fun-work at that..

Have a great day/night all..

Those concerned about the program's included icons, might want to check out Icofx [http://icofx.ro/] to extract/modify/create your own. Making your own icon will hopefully match the screensaver you're creating much better anyway, and might even be expected if you are distributing your work.

If you're concerned about creating a screensaver install that takes over (that sets your screensaver as the default), just create the screensaver (scr) file itself... all the installation does is copy the scr file to the Windows\System32 folder, & set the default -- the user can always copy the scr file themselves, or even easier, right click the scr file & click Install.

While you'll lose the ability to show pictures in random order, you can show off fancier transitions and FX by creating/saving your slideshow as a video file in video editing software (possibly MovieMaker?). Then create a screensaver featuring your video.

RE: virus alerts etc... About the only things I saw that *might* trigger an alert is the included Inno Setup file, the UPX Packer, the Dephi helper, & the program itself. Googling on "flyerbuild.exe", "U.exe", "clsdesk.exe", & "ConfigureSaver.exe" did show some virus inquiries -- all false alerts.

Sluggish etc... you want to get your pictures, video, etc into as small files as possible while still keeping quality. By choosing to stretch a smaller image, you can use images that are less than full screen size, but will display that way.

Hi All.

Well I was going to give this a miss as I am not a fan of screensavers but boy am I glad that I didn't.
It's packed with goodies and a lot of fun to use.

Something muted my sound (Poss unrelated) so that caused me a few wasted moments but all OK now and the built in Music player is OK but I detect not QUITE as OK as Media Player.

Point made earlier about it being Pro version but a lot of the pro facilities disabled is a little strange but I guess this is the pro HOME edition and not the pro Commercial edition.

Thanks GAOTD. A VERY worthwhile offering.

Get it while you can then dump it if you prefer to, is my advice.

The application icon is copied from Windows DLL file icon and the GUI skin is crap. These are the only bad things I can see in this program without actually building a screensaver. Don't have time to test this program yet (just ran it once to test if everything installed OK) but I might have some use for it.
Thumbs up from me.

Someone help please! When I installed, here is what happened: It did the verifying that the give away was still good, then a little window popped up that said "I/O Error 32" then I clicked OK, then it said the program was installed. I can't find it anywhere on my computer! I looked in the usual folders, nothing. I searched all files including hidden and non-indexed, nothing. The search term I used was 2Flyers, which only found the zip downloaded from here, and I used Screensaver builder. Should I try to install it again? I am using Windows 32 Bit Home Basic if that makes a difference.
Thanks!

Installed easily on XP sp3. Easy to use. Sound is great. If you like screensavers grab this one.

If you are going to email the finished saver make sure you reduce the file size of each photo you are putting in the saver. My first saver was 140 megs...not too many people want to receive a file this large.

Caution! It will change your default screen saver. So if you share the screensaver you just created using "2Flyer" with someone and they are not very computer savy, they may not appreciate their screensaver being "hijacked". My daughter told me she didn't want the file if that was going to happen. Just thought I would warn you.

This fun. As a writer, I can make screensavers for books I'm working on which is a fun way to be inspired. Or screens savers of garden photos for a mellow mood. It would probably be worth the price of the regular version for someone who wanted to create basic screensavers for marketing purposes. It's simple enough for the non-expert to use.

I think I may add this one to my "Technology for Writers" presentation as another fun toy that can help.

For those that are freaking out over the 'icon'... there are at least 30 icons in the software's "background" file. You can change the icon to one of those or find one of the 1000's of icons available on the net. Icon problem solved.
