I am a home network user. This program was of interest to me because I am lazy and I liked the idea of having an inventory without doing much work. Well actually, there is a little work required but not too much. The inventory is more thorough than I can imagine using. The reports can be printed out and kept for insurance (that's my motive, anyway).

When I was doing a survey of my wireless network with this program I found that one of my friendly neighbors had hacked my weak security and was stealing bandwidth. However, after the scan I lost my own connection to the gateway and spent awhile restoring it.

The price of the product seems to me to be too much for small users. A lite, or home networks, version might be a good additional market.

I am pleased overall and give my thumb up.

I found it was far more tempermental with WMI than Total Network Inventory v1.5.38.1 was, and without a separate application that would reside on the remote systems as Total Network Inventory v1.5.38.1 has, I would find it hard to recommend this application for anyone, free or otherwise due to the sheer complexity of setting it up to work right with WMI (And the fact that I didn’t get it working either following their steps.)

Having an application that resides on the remote systems is better...how?

I think he is saying that most home users dont actually have huge networks of computers to "inventory" so the software is targeting a small group of people...but thanks anyways GAOTD!

#17, I can point out at least a half-dozen that do just because the computers came with it. Just because *I* stopped at win2k is more because I don't buy preinstalled (or preassembled) systems- at least I didn't use to.

#24, who uses domains as a regular thing on a home network? Ok, maybe there's a reason, but I'll let you lay it out for me.

Anyway, 10-strike is a strike-out on network inventory. For any non-commercial use I can think of. I *might* give the agent a try, but for now NEI fails with a memory exception, so I'll probably just nuke it.

I'm with the other guy, but I give it only one point.

#7, #10, #17. Commercial use means using it to fix someone else's system and getting paid for it. Using it on one's own system, stand alone or networked, is private use, not commercial use.
