I feel the problem is that this program does not do any more than a free program like windirstat does.
To sell a program then it should have a few useful features that freeware programs don't have. Maybe the programmer was not aware of the simular freeware programs when he wrote 1-abc program.

After installation, I tried to go to the website they specify in the Readme file in order to "Register", but I keep getting the message, "The server at 1-abc.net is taking too long to respond."

Too right! Eventually, far too long. If they want us to test and report on their software, they have got to do better than this!

Why make it so difficult? Especially with many other commenters as usual offering the names of several other, always-free, similar programmes (which, personally, I find at least as useful as -- and often more useful than -- finding new software here, free for just one day).

Developers have got to realise that when they introduce/expose their software here, they are going to find people suggesting (often better - in their opinion) alternatives, so they had got to be on their toes, and have something that is at least a decent COMPETITOR -- or they are going to end up shooting themselves in their foot.

@17- I use Norton 360, and they report the site (http://xinorbis.com/index.htm) as perfectly clean and safe. I also installed the program, Xinorbis, and met NO malware of any kind; there were not even any toolbars to untic!! The program itself, along with the website is perfectly clean and safe. If I get a "positive" result from any of my safety programs, I go to the internet and search the name of the site and program and "safety" or "malware" with it and if it is true, then there are multiple sites that report it as such. Please check before defaming a website or program; internet safety programs all suffer from false positives at some point in time, but it needs to be validated before reporting the result to the world. In fact, when you find a false positive, you should report it to your safety software company, and they will thank you for it! And you could possibly avoid a lawsuit for slander; you never know.

Hi Everyone, Installed 1-abc.net Drive Space Organizer 5 on my AMD 6 Core Black 3.4 GHz Bulldozer with Windows 7 64Bit and everything went fine. Registration was fast and easy, Verification and the 2nd E-mail with the registration code was immediate!
The program does all it says it will do and it does a good job! A Little slow but I tested it on Some very large files and folders like 90+ Gigabits. So its probably not real slow! (o;
It is a helpful program and has it uses but the biggest thing that I saw as a down play over all was the small viewing area? And there is no Abilities to go to FULL Screen!? My Monitor default is 1920 X 1080 So, The small screen is somewhat hard to see? Everything else seemed to work as listed so, Thumbs up!

Thanks for the Give Away of the Day.

Yes the app is well worth $15. They are not overcharging at all.

All the complainers what totally blow you away software everytime. Come on years ago you would have paid $50 for something like this.

I love all the recommendations and links. I learn about so much software from the community I love you all. But can't you stop knocking everybodies software, and just saw I like XYZ better because......

One time a year, maybe less, I use TreeSize Professional 2.2, released in 1999. Beginning of the README file:
TreeSize Professional is a powerful and flexible harddisk space manager for Windows 95/98/NT. Find out which folders are the largest on your drives and recover Megabytes on it. Treesize Professional shows you the size, allocated and wasted space, the number of files, 3D bar charts and pie charts, the last access date and much more information for several folders or drives you choose. It also searches for old, big and temporary files on your hard disks. The application has an intuitive Explorer-like user interface and it is fast and multithreaded. You can print detailed reports or export the collected Data to Excel or a text file. TreeSize Pro can be started from the context menu of every folder or drive.

This was written 14 years ago. Comes with a 15 page .doc (!) manual which also provides recommendations for disk management...

Could 1-abc.net Drive Space Organizer 5.00 do better? No.
Did it stop them to give up developing a second-rate software? No.

Anyway. From time to time, 1-abc-net products are offered here. They're probably not that bad, because the company has been in business for quite a few years now.

What I appreciate in this GOTD: it does not do video conversion.

Glad to hear about all these alternatives. I love WinDirStat, it's great. But on my old system it takes over an hour to do its job. Something quicker like this promises to be could help me.

I downloaded and installed 1-abc.net Drive Space Organizer 5. I ran a scan and discovered that the biggest disk space consumer was something that I never used. I uninstalled the offending program.

Thumbs up from me.

PS It does have a special feature enabling the results of the analysis to be copied directly into a text file: this can be useful when, for example, a list of a folder's contents is required.

In fairness, like all 1-ABC.net programs, it has a clean interface, does the job, and only uses (not including the GAOTD wrapper) about 350KB (369KB download). I have to give credit for anything which avoids bloat.

Has anyone compared how fast the various apps can analyze their drive? I've used PCMag's DiskPie for at least a decade. With today's TB drives it can take a long time to do the scan. A speed test of which of the apps including today's offering can give useful information would be interesting.

It is fast, but I am really wondering about the results. On my laptop SSD it gives the total size of data partition 12.4 TB, a little bit too much. Also the printout is quite strange and not very beautiful.

Making such a song and dance just to obtain the registration code is a turnoff to begin with, the question is was it worth it.
Not really, the only useful aspect I found was to be able to open the files in the list, other than that it was nothing special.
In comparison Giovann’s first choice has a superb PDF manual with it, this program has miserable help file with it.
Nothing seems to have been done to make this better than some of the excellent freeware available, I certainly won't be keeping it.

As a mid-knowledge computer user I rely upon the real savvy guys out there to use these programme and then (Only then) to make positive or negative comments. That is the least they can do to be fair to the software provider. If having tried it and they know of a better free version then that is a great help to us with less knowledge.

Today's giveaway is just an ordinary drive space analyzer...honestly can't see any outstanding feature worth 15 bucks, especially when compared to better FREE alternatives out there...how about you dudes?

* (Portable) Xinorbis (==> My Personal First Choice)
Freaking awesome FREE HD, folder and storage analyser and comparer which gives users a complete overview on the contents of their hard drives, by using a sophisticated mix of tables, tree displays and graphs. It's able to analyse the content of any kind of drive out there (HD/SSD, folder or network folder/share, external FireWire or USB drive, memory card etc...), combining any number of the above into a single scan, in order to produce a final report from it.

Reports can be produced in the following formats:

- HTML format (with graphs)
- CSV (all files and properties or user-customisable summary)
- Text (all files and properties or user-customisable summary)
- Tree (a textual representation of the structure of scan folder)
- XML (all files and properties or user-customisable summary)

It definitely outclasses this GAOTD 10 times out of 10, despite being FREE!

Now the question is: why the above more powerful tools (see Xinorbis) are FREE and this poorer GAOTD is not?? LOL!

HINT to this GAOTD's developer ==> How about focusing on different kind of apps?

My 2 cents.....

Well I DID install it and it is NOTHING compared to "windirstat".

It has one redeeming feature - they called it 1-abc so it was at the top of my installed programs and was VERY EASY TO DELETE.

Opensource Windirstat could do the same and much more!

http://windirstat.sourceforge.net has a much better GUI and is very easy to identify large files occupying more space and can do almost everything that is required out of such tool.

My contrib for the day! :)

Thanks for the GAOTD, but I'll pass!
